Cowboy Up
V. RayZ

"Aw, c'mon, Sefie!"

The petite girl laughed at his attempts, emerald eyes glimmering. "No, Irvy! That's so silly! No one will ever go for it! Besides, who else would be able to do it? Only you. So what's the point?"

"Nu-uh!" The cowboy took her in his arms, plopping his hat atop her auburn tresses. "Zell would try!"

"And fail!"

He pouted. "What about Squall? Ever since Rinoa, he's been a lot happier. I betcha Rinoa would get him to try!"

Selphie kissed the tip of his nose and beamed at him. "I betcha that everyone will fail horribly and complain about it!"

Quistis Trepe walked into the Quad, but back-tracked hurriedly as she saw the couple expressing PDA. She was an instructor and thus would have to say something. She over-looked many of the couples in the building, especially if they were her friends. Selphie and Irvine were just another couple that she conveniently never saw the PDA.

"Hey, guys!"

Zell, however, was completely oblivious to anything and everything. His own girlfriend rolled her eyes at him on a regular basis.

Selphie pulled out of Irvine's arms and grinned at her friend. "Hiya, Zell! Do you have any ideas about this year's Garden Festival?"

Zell looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded. "How about-"

"-Hot dogs!" the girl exclaimed at the same time as the martial arts guru.

Irvine looked over at Zell, an eyebrow raised. "Is that all you ever think about?"

The other guy shrugged. "Well, food and my girlfriend."

"Gotta have priorities," Irvine said, rolling his lilac eyes. That gave him an idea. "Hey, Zell... If we had a-"

"No," Selphie warned him, but it was too late. He had asked.

"A mechanical bull?" Zell asked. "Dude! That would be awesome! Sefie! We gotta have one! I wanna try! I'll wear a cowboy hat and everything!"

"Zell! You're supposed to in the cafeteria!" a voice called from the entranceway to the Quad.

He grinned at them. "Well, see ya, guys! Can't wait for that mechanical bull!"

Selphie glowered at Irvine as Zell left. The cowboy's eyes widened and he took an involuntary step back. "Now, now, Sefie... It's just one li'l thing, nothin' to get upset about!"

"You knew he'd say yes and get all excited over it," she said menacingly, walking toward him.

Irvine Kinneas backed away until his back hit something solid. He glanced back. A wall. "Uhm.. Well... Uhm, Selph? Sefie... Please... Be reasonable!"

She looked up at him, emerald eyes gleaming with... Laughter? She burst out laughing, doubling over. "That! That was do... So... Funny, Irvy! You were actually scared of me?" She continued to laugh as the cowboy pouted.

"You were kinda scary, Sefie!"

Quistis re-entered, although it looked like she entered because they had not seen her before, carrying a clipboard. "Selphie?" The girl wiped a tear from her eye and looked up at Quistis. "The mechanical bull's here."

Irvine gaped at his girlfriend. "Wha..? How...? When?"

Selphie grinned a lop-sided grin at him. "Did you think that you honestly thought that up by yourself? I made mention of it a while back, knowing you'd bring it up again." She shrugged. "It's all about the manipulation!"
