Inside the book was a newspaper-like photo of Ally. Her hair was done up in a bun on top of her head. A soft sprinkling of wavy hair framed her face. The picture had a 70's feel to it. But she wasn't wearing tie-dye tops and hot pants. She was dressed decently in a lacy shirt that left loads to the imagination and a long wavy skirt. She looked natural. She wasn't aware that this photo was being taken.
"This photo was taken by a watcher who worked for a newspaper in Europe. He died shortly, trying to find anything on her. All we found was this photo and some short notes. She is unlike any demon we have seen before. It was believed that she may be a new breed of demon. And hopefully she's the only one there is. If she is in Sunnydale and finds out you're still alive, she will not be very happy.
…And now the conclusion
Buffy stood in her bathroom and ran her hand over her stomach. It was hard to imagine that she was carrying life within her. She felt something, but was well aware that she would not feel the baby inside her for a few weeks. Still unable to tell her mother, she had given up on her well fitting attire and had donned some baggier pants and loose-fitting tops. Hopefully no one would notice the small bump that was emerging from her gut. Lilith had repeatedly insisted that she tell Joyce. But she could never find the right time to tell her, or find the right words to use.
The excess weight had Joyce suspicious about something. But she was suspecting her eldest daughter was eating the wrong types of food and Buffy had notice that their meals had become healthier.
Later that day while out on a shopping spree with Willow and Tara, they decided to stop for coffee. Since most of Sunnydale's cafes had closed. No thanks to Damian's wonderfully new improved Hell 'ova Coffee. The trio found themselves sitting in Damian's shop. Buffy, whose cravings had moved to caffeine loaded products didn't complain, although she was afraid that Damian might be around.
After finding the shop Damian-free, Buffy told her friends about her Ally encounter. They were horror struck when she mentioned that she got shot.
"She shot you!" Willow shrieked. They got a few stares from the surrounding coffee-goers. Willow smiled sheepishly. "Are you alright?" she said in a softer tone.
Buffy nodded and told them about the white lady.
Willow said, "I wonder who she is. You've seen her more than once."
"I wonder. Lilith knows who she is, but won't say."
Buffy walked to the toilets, looking around her to see if Damian was in the crowd. She had told Will and Tara to meet her at the park. Than to her amazement she saw Gretchen, arguing with rude Greg. They were off to the side where no one would really see them, except that Buffy could. They were arguing over who was higher in rank. Greg seemed to think he was, saying that as a male, he automatically was higher than she was. Gretchen called him a macho bastard and they were both in the same position.
"No, I'm here because I sold my soul. Your here because you cheated on your husband, who, amazingly, is now your master." Greg snapped.
Gretchen looked hurt and Greg took it as her defeat as left with a smirk. Buffy hid behind a pot plant while Greg walked past. When it was safe, she went up to Gretchen.
"Hi!" Buffy smiled at her. Gretchen jumped.
"Gee, you scared me. Hello. Is there something I can do for you?" Gretchen was acting like nothing had happened. But Buffy saw the fight.
"Yes," she said. "There is. Come on." And with that Buffy dragged Gretchen out of the coffee shop.
A few minutes later found Buffy, Willow, Tara, and Gretchen at the park. Gretchen was pacing furiously.
"I'm gonna be in so much trouble for this." Gretchen whined.
Buffy sat on the swing next to Willow. Tara sat on the ground.
"It's ok," Willow tried to calm her down. "Who's gonna know. Besides we'll have you back before anyone will miss you." Willow's words didn't seem to comfort her.
"We just wanna ask a few questions that everyone seems to not know the answers." Buffy assured her.
Gretchen stopped pacing. "What questions?"
Buffy asked, "Were you married to Damian?" Willow and Tara looked surprised.
Gretchen gave the same look that she gave when Greg and she fought. "Once apon a time. Yes, I was married to Damian. But I did something bad and now I'm condemned for life." She looked sad as she said it.
Buffy didn't press on the matter. So they asked about Damian. That got Gretchen to smile. "He's banned from seeing you."
Buffy looked confused. "Why? I mean who has the power to tell him what to do and he'll do it?"
Gretchen smiled again. "You mean besides his father. God. He'll listen to God."
Tara piped in, "I thought God doesn't really help in that way. That's what everyone keeps saying. 'God wouldn't help'." The trio nodded.
Gretchen gave a Gallic shrug. 'She'll help if she wants to. I mean if it interferes with her rules."
Everyone looked dumbfounded. "God's a women!" Willow finally said.
"Did I say 'She'? I meant 'He'. Sometimes I get these things mixed up."
Tara shook her head. "No, you meant 'She'.
While Willow, Tara and Gretchen argued over the gender of God, Buffy felt the strange feeling that she has been feeling in her stomach since the day she found out she was pregnant. Gretchen stopped fighting and asked, "Are you ok?"
Buffy nodded. "Yeah, just feeling a bit ill, that's all."
"How long are you?" Gretchen asked. Willow and Tara had stopped fighting also and Willow came closer to Buffy and put her arm around her shoulder.
"She's about 5 weeks."
Gretchen sighed. "Oh, ok. So it's just the baby growing."
Tara exclaimed. "Growing, it's too soon. Maybe it's morning sickness."
Gretchen shook her head. "No, it's growing. It should be ready in about 8 weeks."
The group looked at the demon with utter horror.
"E…Eight weeks. I thought they take nine months." Buffy said shakily.
"No, human pregnancies take nines months. Daemonicus pregnancies take three months. It's for protection reasons. Nearly a year pregnancies can be dangerous to the mother and child. Loads can happen in nine months. Three month mean that the baby will be born sooner and preparation can start." Gretchen looked up.
"Oh, crap. I'm busted."
They all turned around to see Damian's father and Lilith heading their way. He didn't look very happy.
They all stood up as they approached them. Lilith looked her normal neutral self.
"S…sir" Gretchen stumbled out.
"Guys," Buffy turned to Willow and Tara. "Remember Louis, or is it Lucifer. I keep forgetting."
Louis or Lucifer just raised and eyebrow at them. Lilith smiled and shook her head. Lucifer and Lilith stared at each other for a second before he turned back to Gretchen.
"Having a smoke break?"
"Greg and I had a fight and I walked out to get some air."
"I know about the fight, Greg told me. You have a responsibility. You wanted to work at that damned coffee place. Now I think you can just come back home."
Gretchen looked like she was about to cry, but nodded.
Lucifer gave a nod at Buffy and grabbing Gretchen, poofed off. Leaving Lilith behind.
"Well, the Blacks sure make a great show." She said with her Cheshire cat smile.
"Why didn't you tell me about the three month pregnancy?" Buffy yelled at Lilith. They were at home with the rest of the Scooby Gang, minus Spike.
"Sorry, forgot abut the differences in times. I mean, my pregnancy takes a day. I totally forgot about the nine vs. three months." Lilith sat on the couch. She looked cool, calm, and collective. If she was truly sorry, it didn't show.
"Look, they take about three months. Could be sooner or later. Depends on when bubs ready."
Buffy was fuming. "You mean I could give birth sooner?"
Lilith sighed and got up. She walked up to Buffy and placed her hand on her stomach.
"I'm not 100 sure but you seem on schedule." She sat on the armrest of the couch next to Xander.
"Looks like you'll have to tell your mom now." She said with her matter-of-fact smile. Only Lilith could tell you a detailed story using only smiles. She had about 100 of them.
"What am I gonna say, huh? Hi mom, guess what I'm pregnant to a demon and might give birth in two months. Congratulations, you're gonna be a grandma!"
Lilith nodded, "Sounded good to me. Joyce looks a little pale, but is still standing."
Buffy spun around to see her mother and sister staring at them through armfuls of groceries.
"Cool!" Dawn said. Joyce passed out.
'I take back the standing part." Lilith said as Giles and Xander went to help Joyce.
When Joyce awoke, it was nearly dark. The sun had just gone down, so there was the purpley color hugging the horizon. They were in the kitchen while Joyce was asking all the normal parental questions such as how did this happened and etc? Than there were the non-normal parental questions such as, what do you mean a demon and etc?
The non-normal questions where easier.
"You mean rape! My daughter was molested by a demon and now she carries its child?" Joyce was practically in tears. Giles handed her a tissue.
"Can't we destroy it somehow? Like an abortion or something?"
Everybody shook their heads.
"The demon is called a Daemonicus; the child protects both itself and its mother. She's practically immortal till she gives birth." Trust Giles to brighten the mood. This only made Joyce cry harder. Buffy felt terrible. And she wasn't sure if it was the pregnancy or the fact her mother was once again crying because of her.
"Oh, this is why your still alive." Came the all-to-familiar British accent. The group turned around to find Ally standing at the doorway.
"Your sister let me in." She answered the question Buffy was going to ask. She also wanted to know how she found her house, but with the technology these days, anyone could find her. Ally looked like a resourceful demon.
"You carry a Daemonicus child. You don't look their type. But this isn't the problem. The problem is that you are well guarded by junior. So when you have it, expect to see me."
The kitchen door opened and Spike entered. He stopped dead at the sight of Ally.
"You!" he snapped.
"William! So nice to see you… I wanna say alive, but that's would be incorrect."
Spike picked up the cutting knife off the kitchen bench. But before he could aim for a throw, Ally had her old western movie gun out and pointed at his head.
"Put it down, William, and you'll get to keep your brains." She said calmly.
Spike did as he was told. Trust Spike to not want to get shot. Besides, Buffy didn't know what would happen if a vamp got its head shot off. Maybe it would be the same as beheading.
"Get out of here, Ally. I mean it." Spike said coolly.
Ally smiled, "Ok." That was easy. She turned to Buffy. "See you in two months."
And with that she left.
"Wow." Said Lilith. "You guys didn't tell me you knew a Yukshia."
