Chapter 2 New Recruits
Elder Kai yelped and fell over backwards from his crystal ball as Goku was suddenly standing on top of it, King Kai falling ungracefully onto his back behind the Saiyan warrior.
"Goku, what on Earth are you doing!" Elder Kai shouted. Goku gulped and looked down, then began floating upside down as he saw a familiar face in the crystal ball.
"It's Chi Chi!" he exclaimed "You guys were watching the fight too?" he asked Kaibitto. The fused Kai nodded.
"It was quite interesting" he replied from where he was seated in a chair. Goku then noticed that Elder Kai was also seated, and looked down to find the crystal ball situated on a large, ancient looking wooden table. King Kai looked around, suddenly aware of various faces seated around the table.
"What's going on?" the small Kai asked "Who are all these people"
"Well, that could take a bit of time to explain, so for now I'll just say that they are important, and that all of existence is in trouble"
"Existence!" Goku shouted "This must be…The Council of Destiny! AGAIN! Oh boy! What am I gonna get to fight now"
"Well, Goku, YOU aren't going to be fighting" Elder Kai replied "WHAT! Oh man! Who's gonna be fighting"
"Well, most likely your family and friends. In particular, Gohan" Kaibitto replied "Hmm, you must be one of the Saiyans I've heard so much about from Zeus and my daughter" a blonde woman said "Which one are you"
"I'm Goku!" he said, grinning broadly "Chi Chi's husband" the woman said to herself "I am known as Hippolyta"
"When did you meet Chi Chi?" he asked "When they put on a display on my island" Hippolyta replied "A display"
"Yes, of strength"
"Aw, I missed it" he muttered "I'm always missing all the good fights"
She shook her head lightly.
"It was indeed a good fight. Chi Chi and the other female warriors of your group easily defeated the Female Furies"
"That's the fight you were talking about? Chi Chi told me about that! Isn't she great?" he asked, putting his hands on his hips and smiling broadly. Hippolyta was sure she'd never seen a man as proud of a woman as Goku at that moment"
"So, this is a specimen of one of the aliens chosen to create humans from" a small girl said "I don't know if I would call him impressive, but he's certainly different"
"Hmm? YOU'RE on the council of destiny! You're a little GIRL!" he exclaimed. She raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm, perhaps currently" she replied "I am known as Kismet, and have lived for eons. At the moment I have taken this form, but in my true form, and believe me, I am not small in the slightest" her lips curved in a slight smile. Something about the small girl caused the hair on the back of Goku's neck to stand on end.
"Now then" Elder Kai called attention back to himself "If the two of you would be so kind as to GET OFF THE TABLE" the force of his voice blew Goku and King Kai off of the table and onto the ground. He cleared his throat. "Thank you, now, let's begin. The purpose of our meeting today is to bring together a group of warriors to aid the Z Senshi in defeating the threat. Perhaps our representative from King Yemma's court would like to brief our guests on which beings have escaped"
"Oh no" Goku groaned "Escapees? Again! You guys need new security guards"
"Maybe so. Anyway, the escapees are as follows: Dr. Gero, Frost, Frigid, and Cell"
"Cell! Doesn't he know when to quit?" Goku asked "Oh well, we can handle them"
"Yes, but they had help escaping. A powerful artifact known as an Infinity Gem helped them to escape, and they have made contact with others in search for the others of the same kind. Alone the gems' powers are formidable, together they are capable of unleashing something the likes of which no one wants to see. Unfortunately, few people know such a thing is possible. The being is known as Nemesis. Should this being be allowed to come back into being, she would very likely erase reality as we know it"
"Ooh, so, these gems are sorta like the dragonballs, only bad" Goku said, nodding. Elder Kai nodded.
"Yes, something to that effect. At any rate, the location of the gems has been discovered. One fell into the hands of the Legion of Doom who joined forces with the Brotherhood of Evil in the world you previously visited, the world of Superman, while another fell into the world of the X Men and into the hands of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, I believe you'll remember them, Goku. Another gem fell into the HFIL, and into the possession of Frost and Frigid and Cell and whatnot. A group known as The Linear Men ended up with another gem and, being the intelligent people they are, they turned it over to us, which is how we found out about this whole fiasco. Some foolish wizard apparently ended up with all the gems and was attempting some sort of stupid experiment, but ended up activating the Time, Space, and Ego gems. And now, the gems are spiraling around. Fortunately, all the gems that haven't been recovered are in your timeline, Goku, in your past"
"My past"
"Yes. However, despite it being your past, this isn't your fight. You are to remain here, with us. Your family and friends will handle this, with a little help from some warriors we pick from other places, such as the ones you've visited"
"Oh really! Maybe you could get that one lady to help, the scary one from when we fought Apocalypse! The one who could shoot the lightning bolts and stuff! Oh, and the one"
"Unfortunately, Goku, that isn't possible. The timelines have been warped, the time stream itself is flowing around in circles, so to speak" said a man Goku recognized as The Watcher "Various heroes are in the midst of titanic battles, some they have fought, some they will fight in the future. Storm is one of them, as well as most of the other X Men. However, there are several heroes who we will be able to bring. Each of the members you see here has someone in mind, I'm sure. With our powers, we will pull heroes from various times and various places to help your loved ones Goku. With their might added to that of the warriors of this time, I'm sure things will work out. In order for the optimum chance of success, we have chosen to send them to the present, your present"
"You mean, as we speak sorta thing"
"Yes. However, we must make haste. The first attack has already been made by your enemies. They know what we plan to do"
"Well then, hurry it up!" Goku exclaimed. Elder Kai sighed.
"Yes, of course. The first suggestion, please"
Storm stood strong, floating and throwing lightning bolts flying through the air, crackling with energy as a blonde woman wearing white cart wheeled out of the way.
"You've gotten weaker Storm" the woman taunted "I've already told you I don't know who you are!" the African goddess exclaimed. Emma threw a blast of mental energy at her and she dodged.
"So, you've managed to forget about me, Emma Frost then?" the woman asked sarcastically "I doubt that"
"She may not know who you are, but I do!" a man shouted, charging in and slamming the woman into the wall. He wore the same visor, had the same hair, his features were more mature, but he could be mistaken as no one but Cyclops. Storm watched in wonder as he was blown backwards, but quickly regained his feet.
"What's going on?" a girl with dark brown hair tied in a ponytail wearing a mostly black spandex suit, part of the front being purple, with a high collar, asked. A yellow belt, yellow boots, and yellow gloves were her only accessories, an X on the belt identifying her as one of the X Men.
"How am I supposed to know!" a distinctly Asian girl wearing a pink sweater, blue jean shorts, and a yellow raincoat asked, a set of goggles set on top of her head.
"All I know is that guy's cool!" a boy wearing a simple black suit and the same yellow belt and gloves the other two sported, his brown hair tossed messily about his head, obviously from a fight.
"We were WINNING!" a brown-haired boy wearing a black t-shirt, brown vest, and torn blue jeans exclaimed, fingerless gloves and simple boots adorning his hands and feet. "Then that freaky lady had to show up"
"Ha! Yeah, right! In your dreams Lance! You and those other brotherhood idiots could never-" the brown haired girl yelped as the girl in the yellow coat pulled her forward just before a red plasma beam shot through the table they were hiding behind.
"Thanks Jubilee" the girl said with a sigh of relief. Her friend, now identified as Jubilee, grinned.
"Any time Kitty"
"Hey, that beam was familiar" their brown haired friend said "You don't think-" Lance went wide-eyed "Cyclops"
"Whatever Bobby, Scott's a senior in high school and skinny as a stick, not that big buff hunky guy over there" Kitty replied "But he's shooting laser beams from his eyes" Bobby exclaimed "How many guys do you know that can do THAT"
"True, but still" a bolt of mental energy completely obliterated the table, cutting them all off. Cyclops then noticed them, and gasped in shock.
"Shadowcat! Iceman! Jubilee!" he looked at Emma Frost, who seemed unimpressed, then smirked.
"If that's who these twerps are, then I must be in the past. Which explains why you recognize me and the weather witch over there doesn't. Which means, if I eliminate them, and her, now, I won't have nearly as much trouble in the future" She let out an evil laugh, but was then blown away by an optic blast "Get out of here, now!" he shouted. Kitty gulped.
"Don't have to tell me twice" she grabbed all their hands, even Lance's, and they phased through the floor, landing in a laboratory below where Rogue was hiding behind a table while Beast fought off a blonde woman in a red and black suit with a black mask, a yellow and orange star on the front.
"I don't know WHERE you managed to find this Beast to protect you, Rogue, but once I've contained him, I'm coming for you!" the woman shouted "Lady, I don't know who you are or what I did to you, but I promise to be good if you just stop coming after me" Rogue exclaimed, ducking as a chair flew at her.
"This goody-goody act won't fool me" the woman replied. Kitty, Bobby, Jubilee, and Lance ran and crouched next to her.
"What did you do to make HER mad?" Lance asked. Rogue glared.
"Nothing, and what are YOU doing here"
"I'm sure, that's why she's about to throw a three hundred pound blue furry guy on you" Lance said, grabbing her arm and pulling, allowing Beast to land where she was crouching moments before. Beast groaned.
"You may want to leave" he said "I will hold her off as long as possible"
"Thanks, Doc" Rogue replied "Suga, you rest, I'll handle this" a voice much like Rogue's broke in. Then, a more mature version of Rogue wearing a green jacket over a yellow suit flew through the room and slammed, double-fisted, into the middle of the woman.
"Ms. Marvel, I'm sorry to say it, but you've gotta chill out now. I know this won't make much sense, but I'm from your future, and that sweet little version of me over there is from your past"
"Lies!" the woman shouted "I forgot how stubborn you were" Rogue muttered "Doc, if you hold her arms still and don't let go for a bit, she should become a bit more manageable"
"Right" Beast walked over and took the blonde from his southern student then stared at her for a moment "What you said makes little sense, but you may want to advise your past self to avoid making this woman mad in the future"
"Will do" she winked at him then motioned for the teens hiding behind the overturned laboratory table. They walked up the stairs and Rogue turned to them.
"Now, then. Sorry, suga, but you've gotta stay here. The rest of ya'll, come with me" she pointed at Rogue "Why've I gotta stay here"
"If you go any further, it'll complicate things. Go back to the class you were playin sick to get out of. Cyclops shoulda beaten Emma Frost by now, and he'll protect you"
"I told you it was Cyclops" Bobby said, sticking his tongue out at Kitty.
"Cyclops'll protect me huh? Alright, I don't know what's goin on, but I guess if I can't trust myself, I can't trust anyone" she turned and took an alternate route to the classroom and then Rogue turned to the very confused teens in front of her.
"Alright now, Y'all ready"
"For what?" Kitty asked "Never mind, doesn't matter if you're ready or not, you're takin off" she took an egg shaped device and dropped it on the ground in the middle of them. A circle of light surrounded them and they vanished, the only sign they were there being the impressions of their feet in the grass.
A young black man ducked as a rather fast-flying fireball whizzed over his head, a white mask covering most of his face. He wore a black shirt with a yellow circle and a lightning bolt on it, a purple trench coat covering his purple pants. His gloves crackled with energy.
"When did Hotstreak turn twenty five?" the boy asked another boy wearing a white and green suit. He shrugged.
"Beats me Static, but watch out!" he flew lower as another fireball flew passed "That was fast"
"He's been practicing these nine or so years. Wait, it hasn't BEEN nine years" Static Shock said "Hey, if you're really twenty five like you say, how come I just put you away as a sixteen year old this morning"
"I don't know, but I'm gonna burn you up now! That way, I can rule the streets without putting up with you in the future!" another fireball, this one bigger "Umm, Gear, fire extinguisher"
"Tried that, remember? If it didn't work on his sixteen year old self, how is it gonna work on this one"
"Watch out!" he shoved his buddy and a wall of fire narrowly missed turning him into burnt toast "Quick, go get help"
"From WHO"
"The fire department, the swat team, whoever! Just find someone!" he shouted. Gear gulped and opened his mouth to protest, but with a look from Static, the boy took off.
"Ha, no one can stop me! You barely pull it off in nine years"
"Yeah, well maybe I'll surprise ya" Static replied, sending a wave of electricity at him. Hotstreak merely waved his hand, a wave of flame dissipating it, causing it to explode in the air. Static gulped.
"That the best you've got"
"Unfortunately, yes" Static replied, turning to fly. Hotstreak sent a quick fireball to the disc, knocking it from beneath Static's feet, causing the boy to fall to the ground "Now, to get rid of the thorn in my side"
"Hmm? Only one? Good, that means there's room for one in your other side" a small object flew forward and exploded. Hotstreak let out a shout of surprise as he was blown backwards. Static looked to see a red-haired man coming toward him. His eyes were an unnatural red color. He wore a blue and red spandex suit, a red scarf tied around his neck bandit style. Over his suit was a brown trench coat. He spun a metal staff in one hand and held a simple playing card in his other. Static stared at him in confusion.
"Who are you?" he asked "Just a crazy Cajun comin to save you, my friend" the man replied. He tossed the card in his hand at Hotstreak, sending the man flying backwards again.
"Now then, I think dis is the one the professor said had the extinguisher in it" he said, pulling out a small capsule. He tossed it at Hotstreak and it exploded, releasing a strange, foamy substance, effectively extinguishing the metahumans's flame. Hotstreak let out a roar as the foam hardened, sticking him in place.
"You won't be able to move now, you best just stay there until this whole mess gets sorted out"
"That was amazing! How'd you do that!" Static exclaimed "I charge the playin cards with a little energy and BAM" the man replied with a shrug "My name is Gambit, you are Static Shock, no?" upon confirmation, he nodded "Very well, it is time for us to be goin"
"Goin? Goin where"
"You'll see" Gambit replied enigmatically. He held out an egg-shaped object and dropped it, and the two disappeared in a flash of light. Moments later Gear came in for a landing, the police and fire department following. He blinked at what he saw. Hotstreak glaring fiercely, and Static nowhere to be seen.
"Now where did he go?"
Dick Grayson, alias, Robin ran through Wayne Manor, wondering what was so important he had to be pulled away from the Titans. Entering the Batcave, he looked around warily. Nothing seemed out of place. Batman turned around and nodded to him shortly.
"What's wrong? What's happening"
"It's time" he said shortly, moving aside to reveal a girl wearing a purple suit with a black cape. She blinked, staring at him blankly, then in recognition and shock.
"You're"
"Yes, it is" Batman replied "Dick"
"But, you're Nightwing, not Robin, and you're"
"Yes, he is, now that the formalities are over" he removed an egg shaped object from his belt.
"What's that? What's going on?" Robin asked "Who's she"
"Batgirl" Batman replied. Robin blinked.
"WHO!" he asked wide-eyed. Batman dropped the object in his hand and a bright flash surrounded them, no trace of them left in the Batcave.
Superboy and Wondergirl looked around in surprise as they were suddenly no longer in battle alongside Impulse, but in a bustling city. A red and yellow blur zipped passed them then stopped and backpedaled to look at them.
"There you are, been looking all over for you" he said "Flash? What's going on?" Wondergirl asked "Hello to you too! You're in Metropolis"
"Metropolis! We were fighting! We were saving people from bank robbers!" Superboy exclaimed "Impulse can handle them" Flash waved him off "How'd we get here anyway"
"Hard to explain, I'll just say it involves a lot of things being all messed up" Flash replied "Anyway, we'd better get going" Flash held up a strange egg-shaped object "What's that"
"You'll find out" Flash replied, dropping it on the ground. In a flash, they were gone, leaving many people to wonder what just happened.
Raven sat at the table ignoring shouts from Beastboy and Cyborg in the living room, a book floating in front of her. Starfire hummed happily in the kitchen, floating about throwing random things into a large pot and stirring, occasionally adding large squirts of mustard. Raven cringed as Starfire covered an enormous piece of fudge with mustard and dropped it in.
"Sacrilege" she muttered under her breath. A large explosion rocked the tower, but Beastboy and Cyborg remained oblivious. Starfire looked around with wide eyes while Raven sighed and put down her book.
"I'll find out what it was" she said, floating toward the stairs. Starfire followed her, tossing her apron on a chair. They reached the roof and Starfire shrieked as Raven quickly put up a large barrier of black energy just in time to block hundreds of bullets and missiles. Starefire peeked around the veil of energy enough to see a large number of men wearing green uniforms with red bands around their arms and the letters RR on them.
"Why are they shooting at us?" Starfire asked. Raven shrugged.
"I don't know, but unless they stop soon, we're going to have more holes in us than Beast Boys socks" Raven replied. Starfire giggled.
"Perhaps I can be of assistance" a voice shouted. The barrage of bullets and missiles stopped and Raven dropped the barrier to find all of the guns and bullets being molded together into a large ball of metal. A man in a red and purple suit was floating in the air, apparently controlling the metal, while a bald man in a hovering chair appeared near them.
"Hello" he said to them "you seemed to be having trouble. Allow us to help" he put his hands to his temples and over a hundred men dropped to the ground. Starfire stared with wide eyes.
"Did you do that?" She asked. He nodded.
"It was simple enough. They will not rise again. They are asleep"
"He's a psychic" Raven said logically "A powerful one"
"True" the other man replied, floating down after compacting the metal ball into the size of a marble (quite the task, Starfire thought), and dropping it into the water.
"So then, Charles, did you prepare them"
"No, not yet." the man in the chair replied "I am Charles Xavier, though many call me Professor X. This is my acquaintance, Magneto" he said "Some friends of yours are in trouble, and we have come to take you to them"
"Friends of ours?" Raven asked skeptically "I believe the names Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Marron"
"My beloved children friends are in danger!" Starfire exclaimed "Oh, please, take us to them"
"As you wish"
"Wait-" Raven called, the skeptic in her surfacing, but too late. Magneto dropped an egg shaped object on the roof, and they vanished in a flash of light
Bumble Bee fired several of her stinger blasts at Jinx, but the girl agilely avoided them, and the arrows from Speedy.
"Please, you can't beat me, you can't touch me!" the girl shouted "Dropping those losers was the best thing I ever did! They were holding me back! Now, I can be truly evil"
"Is that what you really want?" a voice asked. She leapt into a defensive pose, facing a familiar speedster.
"Kid Flash" She muttered "In the flesh"
"Of course I want to be evil! Why do you keep asking me that"
"Because you keep lying?" he offered lightly, shrugging "You're too good for that"
"Shut up!" she sent one of her jinx spells flying and he zipped out the way. She was distracted then, however, and one of Speedy's punch arrows knocked into her back. She growled in frustration and slapped both hands on the ground, sending pink shocks flying along the ground, up heaving under Speedy's feet and knocking him flat on his back. Bumble Bee flew into the air and Flash zipped down under her.
"Who're you"
"Name's Kid Flash. Listen, just leave her to me, I've almost"
"Not a chance, this is our city" she cut him off, sending stinger blasts at Jinx. He groaned as they flew and Jinx easily maneuvered out of the way.
"Listen, Jinx isn't completely evil! I think with some work"
"Just leave it to the vain wonder over there and me! Go back to whatever it is you were doing BEFORE you showed up" She shouted at him. Speedy climbed to his feet and nodded, sending more arrows flying. Their battle abruptly ended, however, as a rather intimidating woman came baring down on Jinx, seemingly from thin air, slamming into the teenage witch with a mace. She floated back up into the air then, holding the pink-haired girl in one hand. On her face was a hawk mask, and two large wings sprouted from her back. Bumble Bee growled.
"What is up with all these heroes in our city! Do people think we're THAT incompetent"
"Not at all! That's why I'm here! Because we know you're competent" the woman replied "I'm Hawkgirl. Believe it or not, I'm from the future"
"The WHAT!" Speedy shouted. Kid Flash looked up at her and blinked a few times.
"Cooooool" he said, whistling "So do all people fly in the future, or only the pretty girls"
"No" She replied, rolling her eyes "None of the above. At any rate, I'm here for all four of you"
"All…four…of us…you mean her too?" Bumble Bee asked, pointing at the girl in Hawkgirl's arms. Hawkgirl nodded.
"Yes" she landed near them and pulled out a metallic egg-shaped object. Bumble Bee held up a hand.
"What are you doing with that thing"
"It's called a returner. You'll see" she dropped it and in a flash of light they all vanished.
"So, when are all these people gonna show up?" Goku asked, looking at a list of names the Council had put together "Now" Elder Kai replied. Not far off, a strange light glittered in the air, and a large group of people appeared.
"What a rush" Kitty said, holding her head "Stop!" Raven finished her shout, then looked around "That was GLORIOUS" Starfire exclaimed "This is a new one on me" Kid Flash said, looking around "Holy tables surrounded by strange people, Batman" Batgirl said with humor in her tone "I'm getting a new travel agent" Superboy said with a sigh "This is where it gets good" Elder Kai said to Kaibitto before standing up "Welcome, seemingly random group of heroes! It's time you all knew what this is about"
