Paige Halliwell stood staring at the tree she'd forgotten for so many years in the front of the Halliwell yard. As Paige watched the branches blow from side to side, she wondered what the wind was in her life – what pushed her along. Paige sat underneath the tree and felt protected from the sun. She wondered what kind of shade anyone had given her at any time in her life. She knew Piper and Phoebe, her sisters, had let her in. That was some type of shade. But all three of them were in trouble together and there was no tree for them to hide under from the mean sun.
Suddenly Billie walked up the path and Paige watched her. Billie's graceful, she noticed, and pretty. That was true – Billie had been a ballet dancer for most of her life and was very pretty. Her silky blond hair flowed to her shoulders and bounced playfully as she walked. Billie hadn't noticed Paige and had gone straight into the Halliwell house instead. Paige thought nothing of it, Billie was always around lately. A window opened and somebody called Paige's name. Paige poked her head out from underneath the tree's branches and saw Phoebe with her head outside the window.
"Come in," said Phoebe and then disappeared back inside.
Paige sighed and stood. She opened the Halliwell door. As she closed it, she heard shouting. She ran upstairs and found Billie and Piper arguing.
"You're ridiculous!" screamed Piper and slammed her first against the wall.
Billie got scared but didn't stop her argument, whatever it is. Paige glided over to Phoebe, barely missing Billie poking her in the eye.
"What's going on?" Paige asked.
"The usual," Phoebe sighed and then glanced at a vase as it fell off the table and then froze in midair.
Piper glared at Billie. "Careful."
"I will be when you are." And out Billie stormed.
Piper slumped down in a chair and sighed deeply. Phoebe and Paige sat on the arm rests and comforted their sister.
Meanwhile, Billie was storming around downstairs. She was kicking things and slamming doors. What Piper said wasn't fair. At least not to her. Billie kicked the TV and it fell, breaking. She stood there with her mouth open as Piper, Phoebe, and Paige flew down the steps.
"Oh my God…" Phoebe mumbled.
"What have you done?" Piper screeched.
Paige, in the midst of all the arguing, knelt down to the pick up the pieces. Phoebe tried to be the peacemaker between Piper and Billie. Paige went to pick up a piece of glass when she pricked her finger on one. Putting her finger in her mouth to stop the bleeding, she looked up at everyone. She realized how unlucky she was to be like this but how lucky she was at the same time. The arguing continued, though Paige had no idea what it was about.
The doorbell rang and the entire house fell silent. Piper went to the door and opened it. It was the postman, delivering a letter. Piper sighed and thanked him before closing the door. She flipped through the mail as Billie, Phoebe, and Paige cleaned up the mess. Phoebe stood when she saw Piper's face.
"Piper, what is it?" Phoebe asked.
Paige stopped cleaning and went over to look at the letter. Billie sat on the floor, staring at the Halliwell sisters as they read the letter. Paige's hand flew to her mouth, Phoebe's eyes got watery, and Piper dropped the letter.
"She's dead."
