Author's notes: So, since I seem to like these little scene things...I decided to add a scene to the first episode Logan and Barek have a case together. During the interrogation Johnny(who had been robbing jewelry stores) Barek throws Logan for a loop when she makes him tell the kid what his mother used to do to him. Mike Logan just looked so thrown off at first, so I figure I'd have a little scene between him and Barek with Logan getting frustrated that she had done that to him. Anyway, I should really get writing.
"What were you thinking?" Mike Logan asked suddenly once him and his partner had exited the squad room into a deserted hallway. In a matter of moments he had cornered Barek, staring down at her, emerald eyes gleaming with so many emotions.
"We got him...didn't we?" she stated softly, gazing up into his emotion-filled eyes with her own calm dark brown ones.
"We could have gotten him without digging up my past!" he exclaimed, his hands raising in exaggeration before taking a few steps back.
"Come on Logan–" Barek stated but was cut off.
"No! You had no right to make me think about that...that..." he shook his head, "My mother and what she used to do to me. It isn't public information that every perp we catch needs to know." he muttered, running a hand through his short red-brown hair.
"You didn't have to go along with it if it brought you that much pain." Barek stated, watching her irritated partner.
"If I hadn't gone along with it, I would have looked like an idiot! I'm your partner Barek, I have to take the leads you give me. If I refuse them, or change the subject I look stupid! Deakins probably would have not been happy if I hadn't either..." he stated, his gaze back upon Barek.
"Deakins shouldn't matter, what matters is you Mike." Barek murmured, watching him sympathetically.
"No, what matters is catching the perps.." he shakes his head. "But that's all besides the point!" he exclaimed, getting worked up again. "You have to understand what I've done to try to shove all those memories away, and yet you seem to be able to get me to talk about them."
"Only once." she stated, blinking at him.
"No, twice actually. Both while we were on this case." he answered, rubbing his forehead.
"When?" Barek asked.
"Yesterday in the car...you asked what my mom used to make me." he paused. "And I said 'rum punch'. It was a little thing, but it still hurt. Still brought back memories." he replied, looking up at the ceiling.
"I'm sorry Mike, I really didn't know. I mean...I haven't known you very long." she stated, coming to rest a hand on his arm. "I really am sorry."
"It's alright...just check with me...give me some sort of sign before you just jump into it." he stated softly, glancing back at his partner who was standing beside him. Her touch was almost comforting.
"I will. It will get easier for us to work as time goes on. Just...try not to take offence too often. We still have a lot to learn about each other." she said, her voice soft, gentle.
"I'll try, since I'm stuck with you for a while." he grinned slightly.
"Yeah, you are stuck with me for a long while."
Author note's continued: Yeah...I have a headache now. I'm going to go dance with a polar bear or something.
