"Good morning, Carson! Slept well? You look beautiful this morning."

"What was that? Yeah, I'm hungry, too. I think I'll eat a big sandwich and a -"

"Of course you'll have lemon. You always do."

Rodney realized it was a long time since he felt this good.

"Today's gonna be a long day. I'll test a new device that was found in one of the labs. It looks interesting, really."

"What? Yeah, I know you'd like to come with me, Carson, but it's better if I'll go alone."

Rodney started laughing, imaginig how testing could go.

"Definitely better if I go alone. I'll come to bring you lunch."

"And then in the afternoon I'll do that thing I promised..."

Rodney finished preparing and was about to leave his room.

"It'll be a great day, Carson."

"Talking t' a guinea pig, Rodney?"

Rodney froze as he heard Carson's voice. He turned around and saw his friend standing in the doorway.

"I was just..."

"Named him Carson, have ye?"

"Well... you gave him to me."

"Yeah... came in t' see if the wee beast was still alive."

"I have no idea what you mean! I'm perfectly capable of taking care of him!"

Carson walked towards the little animal that was staring at him.

"Is he taking care of ye?"

"Do you expect him to answer?"

Carson turned and started walking towards the door, after making sure that his little gift to Rodney was okay.

"Come now, lad."

"Where?"

"To the science lab. There are some medical devices we didn't test yet. You volunteered for it."

"But I didn't know I was going to..."

"Oh, don't worry. It'll be a great day, Rodney!"

Carson left, smiling. It wasn't a cat, but Rodney was appreciating the little soul that always waited for him in his room.
