'Were we in love? '
'Were we in love?', Angel asked Cordelia. She stared at him for a few seconds, confused, and not knowing what to do or say. They just stared at each other, until she turned around and ran out of the dark halls of the Hyperion Hotel. 'Cordy!', Angel yelled after her, but she was already gone. Disappeared into the darkness. Had she meant it? Had they really been in love? Or had it all been nothing more but a wonderful dream? 'I love you, Cordy..', he whispered to the walls.
Cordy was sat on the bed at Connor's place. She was startled. Had she really made Connor think they were in love? She had no idea.. She kissed him, yes. But when she did so she had had no memory. Now it was all coming back to her. It hadn't been love, it was.. confusion. She had no idea who she was during that kiss. She didn't know with who she belonged. But now she did.
And Connor had to know
'Connor.. We need to talk.', Cordy said, taking the teenage boy's hands in her own. He smiled at her, apparently still getting the wrong idea. 'Let's sit down..', she proposed with a serious look upon her face. Connor's smile disappeared, he sensed something wrong. 'We need to talk..', Cordy repeated. 'About what?', he asked., still a bit smiling because Cordy's face always made him smile. 'About that kiss.'. Connor smiled even more. 'Yes? It was nice, wasn't it?'. 'It was.. But it wasn't supposed to happen.'. 'why not?'. He looked so much like a child now.. She remembered holding him as a baby.. Barely three months old. How could she have forgotten that? 'Connor, honey. I love you. And I always will. But just not the way you want me to. I'm sorry'. He stared at her, thinking about what she had just said. 'I thought we were in love..'. 'We aren't Connor. My heart belongs to someone else. '. The truth was the only thing that would make it clear to him. 'It belongs to 'him'.', Connor said, glaring, and truly despising his father right now. 'You're going back to him, aren't you?'. Cordy nodded slowly. 'I'm sorry honey. But we were never in love'.
Cordy's heart ached if she thought about the pain she had just caused Connor, but being honest always, sooner or later, turned out to be the best thing to do. Even now.
'Angel?', she asked, knocking on the door of his office, expecting him to be in there, brooding in the dark, as always.
She heard no reply, so just stepped in and found him as expected. She smiled, and asked; 'Were we in love?'. He turned around in his chair to face her. 'I don't know.. You tell me. Were we?'.
'Does it matter? The question is.. 'Are' we in love?'
Now Angel replied her smile. 'Yes, we are'.
