I worry I won't see your face light up again.
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind.
And I'm tangled up in you.
Yeah.
-
"Derek, I'm too broken." She whispers.
"I can unbreak you." He answers back.
"No, you can't. You're the one who broke me." She tells him, her voice cracking under the impact of her words.
He looks away, unable to handle seeing her like this.
"I'm too broken to be fixed." She says.
"Nobody is too broken Meredith."
"I am."
-
You'll have to follow through.
With every word you say.
And I, all I really want is you.
-
"Let me help you." He whispers, his palm resting on the back of her neck. She was holding onto his every touch, not being able to get enough.
"No." she answers quickly.
He cocks his head to the side, looking at her in wonderment. "Why not?"
"You…can't…help me." She squeaks.
"Yes I can. Give me a chance." He urges her.
"I'm tired of giving you chances." She says honestly
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." He smiles weakly.
"Not when the person is already asleep."
-
Hope dangles on a string.
Like slow spinning redemption.
Winding in and winding out.
-
"I love you." He states.
"No." she says sternly, looking him in the eye.
"Let me make the pain go away."
"How?"
"Let me love you again."
"Go ahead. It's not going to fix anything."
There is silence.
Then the tears stop rolling down her face.
"I told you I could fix it." He whispers as he kisses her on the forehead lightly.
"You haven't, yet."
-
I dare you to move.
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor.
Like today never happened.
-
"You once told me that you loved me." He reminds her.
She closes her eyes as the pain of her words run through her mind once more.
"Yes. I did." She says quietly.
"Why can't you love me now?"
"I would give you my heart, but someone's already torn apart." She admits. "But I'll try to love you again." (A/N. Yes, I did get that from a song. -The First Cut is the Deepest by Sheryl Crow- Sue me why don't ya.)
"And I'll help." He whispered.
He leaned down, and, caressing her cheek, kissed her lightly on the lips.
At that one moment, she could have sworn that she didn't feel one hint of pain.
-
I am thinking it's a sign.
That the freckles in our eyes are mirror images.
And when we kiss, they're perfectly aligned.
-
"I saved the last piece of cheesecake for you." He smiled across the table.
"Did you now?" she smirked.
"Of course." His smile widened as he looked into her eyes. And he could tell she was still slightly broken inside.
She sat down, no emotion on her face.
He grabbed her hand across the table and squeezed it reassuringly.
"I'll always save the last piece for you. And only you." He told her.
She smiled but didn't say anything.
So he stared at her as she ate the last piece of cheesecake slowly.
And now he knows now.
Cheesecake cures everything.

When you're too in love to let it go.
When you lose something you can't replace.
When you love someone but it goes to waste.
Could it be worse?

You see what happens when I get bored? Fanfic is the result.
