Summary: His favorite sound in the world. D/L One Shot. Companion piece to "His Voice."
Before he met her his favorite sound was the resonance of the busy New York streets. He had lived in the city his whole life and when he was little, his lullaby had been the hum of the cars driving buy, punctuated by a siren or two. He had spent last Christmas at her parents place in Montana, and had it not been for her lying next to him, he wouldn't have gotten any sleep.
And then he had met her and his favorite sound was something many decibels quieter. The moment he had met her and pointed her in the direction of Mac, he was in love. She had heaved a heavy sigh and he'd been done in. It was love at first breath. He loved the way it sounded all the time, from when she's aggravated with either him or a case, to when she's sighing into his caress.
He loves the softness and the slowness of it when she's sleeping, the subtle change in it as she's waking up. He loves the sighs she makes when she's working on a case, working out in her head the unsolvable puzzle. Many people would think that those sighs and the ones that she lets loose when he annoys her are one and the same, but he knows better, and he loves both of them. He even loves the breaths she takes when she's having a nightmare, no matter how much they scare him.
He loves the way her breath stops when he tells her he loves her, and how she sighs a tiny bit just before she says it back. His favorite breath was the one she released after he said 'I do' a week ago and he knows he'll remember it forever.
He especially loves the way she breathes his name in bed and how heavy her breathing is when they're through, slowly tapering off into a steady breathing, and he knows she's asleep. Only then does he go to sleep. Because her breathing is like his lullaby and he can't sleep if she's not breathing into his ear. Her soft, gentle breath slowly lulls him to sleep and he dreams of city streets, but instead of sirens, it's her breathing.
He loves the sound of her breathing.
A/N: K so when I started this it was screaming fans at a baseball game that use to be his favorite sound, but I think I like it better with the sounds of the city streets. I think it's a little choppy and it could be better, but it's okay. I like it, but not as much as the companion piece. For some reason, Danny's stories always come out longer, and yet I never seem to like them as much. Please review.
