It wasn't long after he had dropped the bomb, did the whole city go up in flames.

Everywhere he looked people were screaming, running, burning.

A small smile came to the creature's lips as he admired his work. No part of the city was safe; no part of the city lay untouched.

Among the rubble, the smoke, and the flames, a survivor (perhaps the city's only survivor) watched as the last of the buildings turned to ash before him.

No matter how hard he tried to erase the images of those innocent people burning alive from his brain, they always came back, knocking at his skull, making him re-live the torture.

Who could have done this? Who could be so sick and kill hundreds of people?

A cold, sickening laugh pulled him from his thoughts as his ears perk up, listening for footsteps.

"That was too easy."

Overtaken by curiosity, the small animal uncovered himself from the hot rubble, tilting his head towards the voice.

The Hedgehog's eyes widened as they met those of the murderer, who had a crooked smile gracing his lips.

He was also a hedgehog, but his fur was neon green, and the tips of all of his quills were either black or red, while his eyes were a bright orange.

"Well, what have we here?" he spoke, placing a gloved hand to the shotgun attached to his hip.

He steeped forward, turning to a silhouette in the moon's light.

"A survivor? What's your name? Or were you sent by them? They promised help…"

Speaking from fear, the smaller of the two responded,

"They sent me. My name is Shadow the Hedgehog."

The green hedgehog smiled and nodded, removing his hand from the shotgun and extending it to Shadow.

"Desolate. Desolate the Hedgehog."

Both animals shook hands, and when Shadow pulled back, desolate shoved a gun into his hand.

"Now, I'm sure they told you our plan already, but I want to go over with you the rules. Let me warn you that there are many and if you break one you are betraying us and you must be killed instantly, understand?"

Shadow swallowed deeply, but clutched the gun in his hand tighter while nodding and begging silently for Desolate to leave him be so he could get away.

"Okay, kill everything that moves aside from others whom carry guns with our symbols on them, okay? Now get out of here."

Before Shadow could protest, Desolate ran off, ignoring the remaining flames of the explosion he had caused only minutes before.

Shadow sighed, looking down at the gun that lay in his hand. He was stuck now, forced to be watched by others of this team he had stupidly smuggled his way into.

"What are you waiting for, Shadow? Everyone must be destroyed!"

The black hedgehog looked over in horror, shaking his head softly enough so Desolate wouldn't notice.

"Why do we do this?" he bravely questioned.

Desolate simply laughed, cocking his gun and shooting at a random person who had moaned out for help. Shadow noticeably winced.

"They're against our ways…this world would be better off without this filth that most call the human race. Now let's get going before you get yourself killed!"
