LOSS - by Ithilasseth

Sam rushed from her car all the way to the infirmary on level 26.

Entering, the Lt. Colonel worried about what she would find - the message she'd received had only told her to come to the sick bay ASAP. She was greeted by a flurry of activity and the voices of panicking doctors, nurses, marines, and groaning patients. Curtains were drawn around some beds, others weren't and Sam could see several wet, charred, and bloodied people writhing on the white beds.

"Colonel Carter," she heard a tired voice croak near her. Turning she saw a familiar face.

"My god, Colonel - what happened?"

"We were on the Daedalus when it came out of no where..." Sheppard passed a hand through his singed hair and his voice, cracking from raw emotion, dropped down to a whisper. "We lost a lot of people."

Carter's eyes were already scanning the faces of the wounded.

"Where's Dr Weir?"

Sheppard's eyes closed for a second, as though collecting his thoughts. When he looked back up, there was a horrible sadness in his brown, puppy dog eyes.

Jack had received the same call as Sam, but he was unfortunately still in Washington and was told by his aids that he couldn't leave until he'd finished all the paperwork on his desk.

Okay, so most of it was just signing his name at the bottom, but the aids had this annoying tendency to make him read the stuff before he signed it off. Just because he'd signed off two bits of paperwork that contradicted one another didn't mean that he didn't read all of the all the time... okay... maybe only most of them most of the time, but still!

Jack was sure that paperwork had been created by the Goa'uld in hopes of destroying him once and for all.

The phone rang - hisgreen phone - the one linked straight to Landry's office at the SGC.

"O'Neill."

"Afternoon General, did you get Walter's message?"

"Yeah," Jack picked up the neatly hand written note left on his desk by his secretary PO Murmak. "What's up?"

"Deadalus was attacked en route to home by an unknown enemy ship. Most of the personnel got beamed away to the nearest planet before the ship was destroyed. "

Jack's eyes shut and he cursed silently. "Who'd we loose?"

"You might want to sit down, Jack."

"I already am..."

OOC: Cliffies are great ways to start off a story, eh?
Be nice, this is my first bit of fanfic in almost a year.
