There is a box on her desk when she walks into her classroom having just filled a coffee mug in the teacher's lounge. She can't tell just by looking at it what it contains, and so she pushes it aside, setting her mug beside it as she sits at the desk and reaches for a pen. She figures that it's probably from one of her students wanting to try one of their practical jokes on her, so she decides to ignore it.

School, however, has not yet begun. But she left early yesterday, and absentminded as she is, more than likely forgot to lock her classroom door. And that means that she has no idea how long the box has been sitting there, and she isn't sure she wants to know. But now that she's seen it, she knows that it 's not going to leave her alone until she knows what it contains.

So she casts aside the worksheets that her seniors turned in the day before and takes a sip from her mug, eyeing the box intently. It is too long and thin to hold anything that she has in mind, and so she sets her mug down and reaches for it. The lid comes off with ease, and when she looks into it, she blinks, to make sure that she is really seeing what she sees.

Inside the box is a single red rose, beautiful in its simplicity, and tied with a simple ribbon. Beside it lies a small, folded piece of paper, and she pulls it gently from its place, wondering where this flower has come from. As it is, the note does not disappoint her, and as her eyes look for a signature, they widen as they find one: the rose is from him.

A faint blush crosses her face as this fact registers fully in her mind. She goes back to the beginning of the note to read it through, and when she's finished, she leans back in her seat, still blushing, and quite surprised at what it says. He wants to see her again…and this time, not as a teacher, or a witness in a trial, or to apologize for being a jerk.

The first of the warning bells ring and closing the lid on the box, she goes back to grading papers as the classroom door opens and the first of many walk in.
