She laughed, she finally had him. She knew that his duel magnums were nearly empty. She guessed that he had two or three shots left in each pistol. They stood on a narrow ledge in between two buildings facing each other. She had him cornered.
"Just give up now, and maybe I won't kill you." she said brandishing her energy sword
Before he could answer, there was an explosion and the building to his right crumbled, destroyed by a Wraith shot. The ledge they were standing on shook and sections of it broke and tumbled to street below. She lost her balance, but kept from falling, dropping the sword in the process. He saw that the section she was on was unstable and could fall at any time.
"Jump over here before you fall!" he said holing out his hand towards her
"This changes nothing! I still hate you!" she yelled back on her hands and knees
"Kate, don't be a fool! I don't want you to get hurt because of some stupid fight we had long ago! "
"It wasn't stupid! You didn't care about me then, so why should you now!" Kate said slowly standing up again
He tried to take a step towards her but what was left of the ledge between them couldn't support his weight and fell away.
"Ha! Just try and come get me! I'll enjoy watching!" Kate scoffed
"Kate, can't you listen to me just once?" he asked sincere
"No, I wo--" Kate began but the section she was standing on started to give way.
Her disdain for him was forgotten as she realized what was happening.
"John! Help me!" Kate cried and reached out for him.
He grabed her hand but her weight thew off his balance and they both fell.
