You put me in there and I'll tear you to pieces. The Sorting Hat recoiled against the student's head, for the first time in a long time feeling real fear. This student was mad, unstable, capable of horrible deeds. He belonged in -

Put me in there, the student ordered. That's where I belong.

The Sorting Hat wanted to protest, to say, that house is not for the likes of you. But then he thought about the threat, and believed it.

"Gryffindor!" the Hat announced, and with relief was lifted from the head.

James smiled and slid off the sorting stool.
