DISCLAIMER
Supernatural belongs to me. I only own Nick and Kelly.
What Nick and Kelly didn't know, was that Sam and Dean had long since paid for the room and had left. Dean glanced at Sam worriedly. He hadn't said a word since they had started out. He hadn't even made a crack about his music collection, not even after Dean had deliberately played his Metallica tape three times.
"Sammy, you wanna talk?" the older man asked. Sam just shook his head. He knew Dean was concerned. And he knew that his brother had only played the Metallica tape as long as he had in order to get a rise out of him. However, his mind was still focused on the call that he had gotten.
"I have something for you," the man said. "It's from Jess," he continued. "It's from Jess," the man said. "It's from Jess." "It's from Jess." It's from Jess." The shrill shriek of Dean's phone interrupted his reverie.
"Sammy, could you get that for me?" Dean queried.
"Sure," Sam answered. "And it's Sam," he continued. Dean chuckled in relief. Sam grabbed the cellphone and pressed the talk button.
"Hello?" he asked guardedly. Yeah, it probably wasn't that creep again, but you never knew.
"Sam?" a voice queried.
"Dad?" Sam asked in relief. Dean risked taking his eyes off the road. Dad? Was it really their father?
"Sammy, you okay?" John Winchester questioned in concern.
"Fine, Dad. Just got a weird call," Sam answered. Then, "What do you have for us?"
"There's been some weird dog attacks in Dallas, Texas. I want you and Dean to check it out," John told him. A job. It's another, job, Sam realized. Then something occurred to him.
"Why can't you check it out?" Sam questioned in confusion.
"Because I'm taking care of a vampire infestation in North Carolina," John answered. Sam let out a sigh.
"Okay, Dad. We'll go," he agreed. He hung up the phone.
"Where we headed?" Dean wondered.
"Dallas, Texas. Strange dog attacks," Sam answered.
"Why can't he check it out?" Dean asked.
"He's in North Carolina takin' care of a vampire infestation," Sam responded.
"Sammy...are you sure you want to do this?" Dean gently questioned. Hey, he was all for followin' Dad's orders, but Sam hadn't quite recovered from Doc Ellicott's little psycho trick.
"Dad's given us an order. That's good enough for me," Sam stated, echoing one of Dean's earlier statements. Surprised, Dean looked at Sam, nearly running off the road. Only his quick thinking saved them from a horrible crash.
"Who are you? And what have you done with the real Sam?" Dean wondered.
"Just drive...jerk," Sam answered. Dean let out a relieved laugh. It looked like Sam was gonna be okay. He popped in a Black Sabbath tape and took the next exit out.
