DISCLAIMER
Supernatural belongs to the WB. I only own anything you don't recognize.
As one, the group whirled around.
"INCOMING!" Dean warned. A small bundle of fur lunged towards them.
"Steve! Calm down!" Sam shouted. The thing stopped.
"You know who I am?" it asked somewhat gutterally.
"Yeah, that's right. We know who you and we know what you are," Sam continued.
"I'm a freak," Steve moaned.
"No. No, you're not a freak," Sam soothingly responded. "Look, you have a gift. That's all," he continued.
"A gift? Look at me! I'm a freak!" Steve exclaimed.
"No you're not, man. You know what you're doing. You can learn to control this. You've already started," Dean spoke up.
"What are you talking about?" Steve wondered.
"You were scratching that guy really badly. But you stopped when you realized what you were doing. You have control of yourself when you're a werewolf. Given time---" Dean began to say.
"You'll be able to decide when or if you want to change," Sam finished.
"W---wait, you're sayin' that there's werewolves that can actually make conscious decisions?" Kelly questioned.
"Yeah," Deam nodded. Just then, Steve groaned.
"What's happening to him?" Nick wondered.
"He's changin' back," Dean realized. Just then, they heard twigs snapping and pounding feet.
"There it is! Get it! Get it!" a man shouted. He and some of the other townspeople pointed their guns at the wolf.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Don't shoot! Don't shoot!" Dean warned.
"And why not, boy?" a man sneered.
"Because it's just a boy," Dean answered. "He knows what he's doing," he continued.
"Which makes him even more liable," another man stated.
"No. Which makes him smart," Dean retorted.
"Look, I know you're thinking that a werewolf is just some unthinking animal that only lives to kill. And for some, that's true. But for others...they can think, feel, understand just like the rest of us," Sam told them.
"And how would a little brat like you know something like that?" the first man asked.
"'Cause I was trained for this kind of thing. You're all just scared, little townies," Sam bit off.
"Sam, reign it in," Dean snapped, sounding a lot like their father.
"Sorry," Sam muttered.
"Look, we can figure this out in a minute. But there's just something I have to do," Kelly declared. Before anyone could stop her, she walked over to Sam and flung her arms around him. Sam grunted as her purse whacked him in the back. Then, she leaned up and began kissing him. Sam made noises of surprise, but Kelly kept it up. Sam wasn't sure what was going on, but decided to play along. Unnoticed by one, she opened her purse and took out the necklace. As she kissed him, she slipped the jewelry over his neck. She leaned in towards his ear.
"Now you're ready to fight," she whispered. Then, she pulled away.
"Awww. How sweet," a man jeered. He started forward Steve, but Dean intercepted him. A shot rang out. This seemed to be a signal for something. There was a flurry of activity.
"AAAAAAAAAAH!" Hearing his brother's pained cry, Dean whirled around.
"Sammy!" he yelled. He released the man he was fighting with and headed for his brother. Suddenly, there was a flash of light.
"What the---?" Dean's question fell to the ground.
"I've never seen it do that before," Kelly murmured.
"What's goin' on?" a man asked.
"I don't know. Let's get out of here," someone else replied. The townspeople took off. As soon as the light disappeared, Dean continued his dash to his brother's side.
"Sammy! Sammy!" he cried frantically, dropping to his knees and helping him to a sitting position.
"It's Sam," Sam groaned.
"Are you shot? Hurt?" Dean questioned, his voice switching back to business mode.
"No. The necklace took the brunt of it," Sam answered. The brothers stared at the charm, which was green and brown.
"Seems okay now," Dean commented. Then, smacking his brother, "Don't you ever scare me like that again!" His voice grew soft. "You scared the heck out of me, little brother."
"Sorry," Sam said. Nick and Kelly ran up.
"You guys okay?" Kelly asked.
"Uh, yeah, we're all right," Sam answered. Dean helped him up.
"Well then, I guess we better get going," Kelly said.
"Wait. That's it? You're gonna leave just like that?" Dean queried.
"I came to give Sam the amulet. My work is done...for now," Kelly answered. With that, she took Nick's arm and they began to walk off.
"Hey," Sam called. Kelly turned around. "Where did you learn about werewolves?" he asked.
"Our family knows who you are, Sam. And we know what you do," she responded.
"What?" Sam questioned.
"We've known for twenty-two years, Sam. The Winchesters, the hunters. We swore to always protect you," Kelly responded.
"And this?" Sam queried, clutching the amulet.
"Jessica wanted to give it to you herself, but she never got the chance," Kelly answered. She smiled sadly. Then, "Come on, Nick. Let's get outta here." With that, they parted ways. Sam and Dean walked to the Impala.
"Now we both have protective charms," Sam noted as they got into the vehilce.
"Yep. Just another way we're alike," Dean agreed.
"Well, mine's prettier," Sam stated. Dean leaned over and smacked him upside the head.
"Ow! Jerk," Sam said.
"Creep," Dean smirked. He started the car and classic rock was heard as they headed out of town and down the highway.
THE END
AUTHOR'S NOTE
Okay, yeah. Anti-climatic. But, I didn't want to do major fightage with this story since it was just a "Teen Wolf" sort of deal. And yes, there will be an eventual sequel explaining Jessica's background.
