"I can see why you spend so much time up here. You know, way up on the rooftops," Jazz whispered as Axel neared her.
She gave a backwards glance, expecting him to jump higher or simply answer with an agitated grunt, as he usually did. But no; instead he walked slowly, still a bit weary from heights after his fall, and stopped beside Jazz. He didn't look at her, but instead stared blankly upward, gazing at the stars that filled the sky of this town's never ending night.
"I remember," he started softly, "looking at the stars with Hamonii every so often from that castle's balcony," he laughed quietly to himself at the distant memory, "She'd tell me every time about her brother, everything she could remember, and how he was up there on one of those stars. She said that she'd find him one day; travel to the most distant stars if she had too..."
Jazz gazed at him with soft eyes.
"You really care about her, don't you?" she questioned quietly. He grunted, well, more like a half-grunt-half-sigh, but still sounding so obviously forced. Axel nodded, making a few strands of his crimson hair fall. She smiled at him. He may act big and bad, but deep down he's a softie.
"She's like a," he stopped, looking for the right word, "A daughter," he finished in a mutter.
Jazz smile broadened, an air of wise ness weaved into it.
"Even without a heart, you can still remember feelings, most importantly love, Axel.."
He only grunted in reply, glaring at nothing in particular, but that was just his character. Deep down, deeper in one than the other, they both knew she was right. Axel looked down at her now, a pleading look subtly showing in his green eyes. They asked for something she could never give him; a heart. Jazz felt a few tears fall from her eyes, showing that even if she hides it, she still cares. He took a seat beside her now, making a small grimace from the slowly dulling pain in his head.
"Are yo-"
"Fine, I'm fine," he growled. Jazz smiled faintly upward.
"Remember what you said about being human?" she mused quietly. Jazz saw him give a slight nod. "Well, I think you're wrong. Heart or not, you're just as human as me and Sora, Hamonii too."
And with that she jumped from the roof, gracefully landing on the balcony below. Jazz smiled back up at the shadows, giving a small wave as a parting gesture. Axel's eyes wavered, losing that look of insanity for an instant.
