And Then There Is Silence

By. Tate Icasa

A group of four stand in front of the tombstone.

It's been a long while since any of them have spoken.

Finally, the robed man breaks the silence.

"It's getting late. We should go inside."

The brown-haired girl nods. The man puts on arm around her and leads her away.

The tiny reddish haired kitsune rubs his head against the black-haired girls cheek.

"Come on." He says.

The girl shakes her head. "I'm going to stay here a while longer." She says. "You go on ahead though."

"Are you gonna be ok?" He asks seriously, hopping down from her shoulder.

She nods. "I'll be fine. Really. You should go inside."

"Ok, come in when you're ready." He scurries off.

The girl nods mutely and drops down so she's kneeling in front of th tombstone. It's smooth, it has sharp corners, and it isn't written on yet.

She brushes her fingers over the stone, as though that could let her bring him back. She gasps as the sharp edge cuts her finger, and she puts it into her mouth.

After a second she looks at it again, and tilts her head. Her hand moves back towards the stone.

She slits her wrist on the corner, smearing her blood across the blank stone. Tiny crimson droplets fall to the earth. Slowly, the words begin to form.

A. . .i. . .s. . .h. . .

She slits the wrist again.

She swoons suddenly, blood loss making her dizzy. She makes a bloody fist and holds onto the tombstone for support. After a second the dizziness passes, and she begins using her other wrist.

Finally, she sits back and looks over her handiwork.

She smiles softly.

Written on the tombstone in crimson blood, are two words: 'Aishiteru, Inuyasha.'

She says it out loud, her voice hoarse, and tears in her eyes. She says it again. Then, "I'm coming."

She closes her eyes. There's no sound except her soft breath, and her heartbeat.

Her breathing stops first. She doesn't have enough strength to take another.

The heartbeat is like quiet thunder in the clearing, desperately trying to keep the girl alive. But it's slowing.

Bump. . .bump. . . . . .bump. . . . . .bu-

And then, there is silence.

Jap. Translation: 'Aishiteru' - 'I love you'

A/N: I know, this is so evil. I didn't want to write this, but my muse, (who currently hates me) wouldn't let me continue my other fic, 'The Family Secret', until I wrote this. So, here it is, my evil Kagome suicide fic. Here's some Interesting Info for you:

The Japanese actually have a word for this particular kind of suicide. The word is 'atooishinjuu', following ones spouse or lover into death.
