He was walking toward the beach when he saw her. A million and one things rushed through his mind, all pounding down like a hammer to nail. As a reflex of his thought's wishes he shouted, "Kate!"
She turned to him startled. Her face was scanning the ground. She was nervous…no, that's not the word. She was uncomfortable.
"Kate, we need to talk."
"I have to go help with Sawyer. He's-" she began walking away in direction of the hatch.
He knew that the yelling, or the grabbing of a wrest wouldn't make anyone listen, especially Kate, so he simply put out a desperate "Please."
Kate turned to face him, giving a small defeated look. Kate sat down on the sand. Jack slowly moved forward and sat next to her.
She spoke.
"Jack, I-" she was looking at the ground again.
"I'm not perfect." His plain words cut hers off sharply. She looked up at him with a faint look of confusion tinting her face. Jack stared out to sea.
"I make mistakes, I fail," he said, "I'm wrong, a lot" He laughed to himself.
"There are so many things I regret…so many" Jack let himself drown in self-pity for a few moments before speaking again.
" I lose my temper, I get scared, and jealous and…"
"I'm not any better than anyone here. Not better than Sayid, Charlie, Sun, Sawyer…you" He reset his focus to Kate.
"I, I just need you to know that, okay?"
"Okay," her weak voice spoke back to him. Jack slowly got up and walked away.
As Kate watches him leave he, she knows.
She was right all along.
