Disclaimer: I do not own From Far Away…sad sigh
This is a little one-shot about what I think would have happened if Noriko had tried to keep Izark from leaving in the third book. R&R? Please?
He was walking away.
A part of her couldn't comprehend what was happening, but another part of her whispered that she knew this was coming. But that didn't mean that she would just let him walk out of her life. She threw her bag onto her bed, before diving for the door, stunning him as he started for it. She spread her arms, gripping the doorframe, knuckles white, shoulders shaking from silent sobs as she silently pleaded with him not to leave her.
"I-Izark," she finally managed, her mind scrambling for the few phrases she had learned. "No leave me please!" She was tempted to throw herself against him, but was unsure of how he would react. He approached her slowly, face shuttered, leaving her guessing at his thoughts.
Before she could so much as blink, he reached out, gently gripping her hands on the doorway, trying to ease them off of the wood. "No!" she yelled at him, trying to slide her hands back into place and earning splinters for her efforts. She winced, but refused to show any other signs of weakness. She wanted to be strong; she had to be.
"Noriko, let go of the door," his said, tone soothing, his hands light as they carefully massaged hers, easing the tension in her arms until she sagged weakly in the doorway. He stepped forward cautiously, not wanting to make her panic again, and slowly scooped her into his arms, scooting her bag out of the way before easing her onto her bed, where she blinked up at him, as if confused.
One of her hands fumbled for a moment, trying to find his. When she did, she clasped it tightly, working her fingers between his to intertwine their hands. He frowned for a minute, then allowed himself to smile at her obvious show of determination. He let his free hand join their entwined ones, wrapping her much smaller appendage in his two callused ones.
"Sleep, Noriko," he ordered her softly.
"But--" His finger halted her words, resting against her lips. "Sleep."
When she awoke later that same evening, it was to find Izark still there, sleeping on a pallet by her bed, cocooned in a blanket. She slipped from her bed lightly, kneeling beside his head and gently shaking his shoulder in an attempt to wake him. When he finally blinked awake, staring up at her with questions in his eyes, she simply smiled and took his hand, motioning for him to take the bed.
He shook his head, but got up anyway and gathered up his blankets, grasping her hand before she could release his, and led her over to the bed and said softly, "We can both stay here tonight." And so they did, side by side, not touching, but Noriko was happy.
He hadn't left her, after all.
Author's Note:
Ahh, the cheesines…
Anyway, I think that we need a From Far Away section!
So what do you think of it? Probably too short, I know, but oh well… Review, please!
