A Tale of Two Hearts
By: Abstract Fantasy
"That was some Defense Against the Dark Arts class" Sirius Black said while walking down the corridor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Accompanied by his other friends, James and Remus. "The teacher almost had my attention that time!" he added snidely.
"We have Care of Magical Creatures next" Replied Remus with a look of distaste on his face. Care of Magical Creatures was his least favorite subject, and to top it off, he had a presentation to give in front of the class on the proper way to look after a pheonix.
The trio made their way down the corridors and outside, where the class was taking place. Remus stopped dead in his tracks.
"It's her..." he said suddenly. It was common knowledge that Remus Lupin had an enormous crush on Melanie Meriglow since the third year.
"Why don't you go talk to her?" James spoke up, giving Remus a slight push on the back
"You know guys, I think I will." With a sudden burst of confidence, Remus Lupin marched over to where Melanie was standing chatting with her friends.
"Hey Mel" Remus said.
"Hello Remus" Replied Melanie blushing.
"You know Melanie, I was just wondering if perhaps later tonight, we could get together to study potions. There is that big test tomorrow on Veritas Serum."
"Yes Remus, that would be wonderful. I've got quidditch practice tonight until 7, do you think you could meet me in the library at maby 8?" replied Melanie.
"Eight is perfect." With that, Remus returned to his friends with a new found hop in his step.
For Remus, the rest of the day went by very quick. He got by the rest of his classes and for the first time in a while, Sirius didn't get in trouble in potions. By the time he got back to the Common Room, it was only four. Remus killed the remainder of the time by looking over his potions notes and perfecting the Marauder's Map, a map of all the secret passages, corridors and people currently within the school.
Remus glanced up at the clock in the boys dormitory's, 7:45, only 15 minutes until his date with Melanie. He gathered up his disarrayed parchment and proceeded into the library. He was relieved when he saw Melanie already at a table on the far right, her nose buried deep in her parchment.
"Remus Over Here!" Called Melanie smiling.
Startled, Remus dropped the parchment and quills clenched in his fist. He bent down to gather up his belongings, when he noticed Melanie walking quickly toward him to help him clean up his mess.
"You always have been the clumsy one Remus" said Melanie calmly. As she gathered up one of the quills, her hand slightly brushed his. She looked up into his eyes, and as if by an unseen force, there lips touched. Melanie drew back and gazed at Remus, in shock of what just conspired.
"I uh.. I uh... I have to go..." Melanie mumbled as she turned and stormed out of the library. Saddened, Remus gathered up the rest of his belongings and walked back up to the Griffindor Dormitory's.
The next day, at breakfast in the Great Hall, Remus sat with his friends, James, Sirius and Peter. However, Remus was not his usual self. The others could sense it.
"Whats wrong Moony?" Questioned Sirius.
"Theres nothing wrong. I just didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Thats it, I'm just tired." Remus knew he was lying to his best friends, the others knew it as well, but didn't want to pursue the problem any further. "I uh.. left my transfiguration book in the Common Room. I'll be right back." said Remus as he marched out of the Great Hall.
"What do you think is wrong with Moony, Prongs?" Sirius asked James.
"I don't know, probably werewolf problems.." Replied James. "If it's a real problem, he will tell us when he feels comfortable."
"He usually tells us everything about his 'furry little secret'. Why would this be any different?" puzzled Wormtail.
"I don't know, that's what worries me.." Sirius thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Remus was walking down the corridors mentally going over the events of the previous night, when he spied Melanie ahead of him in the hall. Remus ran to catch up with her, not even stopping to apologize to the people he narrowly avoided running into.
"Melanie! Hey, its me Remus" Remus panted between breaths.
"Hey Remus.. Listen, about last night."
"Mel, I have something to tell you." Interrupted Remus, " I am madly in love with you. I want you to know. What happened last night was the greatest thing thats ever happened to me. I love you Melanie..."
Melanie looked into Remus's eyes, she could tell his words where indeed the truth. Her eyes beaming with tears, they engaged in a passionate kiss.
