"Katie."

Katie looked up.

Robert stood in the doorway. "I've brought Hamish and Stephen." He stepped aside the two men entered the room.

Hamish lifted Katie off the ground and held her tightly.

Tears filled her eyes and she dashed them away.

At last Hamish set her down. "What will we do?"

Katie went over to the window and looked out for a long moment. Her blue eyes took in the colbat mountains under the glowering purple sky edged in pink.

Robert came up behind her. "What will you do?"

Katie turned. "I will go to London and speak with my brother. And see what he wants."

"It's too dangerous."

Katie looked at him for a long moment. "For more reasons than you know."

Robert took her hand and laid the cloth in it. "Go to your brother. And I will follow in a day."

Nicolette threw open the Princess's bedroom door. "My lady! Katie has come!"

Isabelle whirled. "Katie!"

Katie glided into the room dressed as a proper lady in waiting in black and blue. "Isabelle, where is he?"

Hamish and Stephen stepped in behind her and Isabelle gasped.

"It's alright." Katie held up her hand. "They're with me."

"I will take them to my room," said Nicolette. She hurried them from the room.

"Can you save him?" whispered Isabelle.

Katie came across the room. "Where is he?"

"The trial starts in thirty minuets."

Slowly Katie sat down. "You're with child, aren't you?"

"I am."

"My brother's?"

Isabelle nodded.

"Good." She stood to her feet. "We both carry kings then."

Isabelle and Katie stood in a deserted balcony that looked down into the courtroom.

There stood William, bound with chains, before six scarlet robed royal magistrates.

"William Wallace! You stand in taint of high treason."

"Treason," said William. "Against whom?"

"Against thy king, thou vile fool!"

"Never, in my whole life, did I swear allegiance to your king." William's eyes where bright.

"It matters not, he is thy king."

"I cannot commit treason, if I have never been his subject."

Tears where rolling down both Katie and Isabelle's cheeks and they clung to each other.

"Confess and you may received a quick death. Deny, and you must be purified by pain. Do you confess?" demanded the magistrate.

"I do not confess."

A sob escaped Katie's mouth. "Why, oh why, does he have to be so brave?"

The magistrate stood. "Then on the morrow, thou shall receive thy purification. And in the end, I promise you'll beg for the axe."

Katie followed the Princess down the dark prison halls.

The jailer jumped to his feet when he saw the Princess. "Your highness!"

"I will see the prisoner," said Isabelle.

"We have orders from the king…"

"The king will be dead in a week and his son is a weakling! Who do you think will rule this kingdom? Now…open the door."

The jailer opened the door and the two women glided through. Isabelle turned. "Shut the door and leave us alone."

The jailer obeyed and they heard him shuffle down the hallway.
