A/N: Hey people this is my first story and fluff for LOST! I love this show, its one of the best shows on TV and I can't wait till the next season hurry up and starts! I haven't wrote anything for ages since the computer had some sort of random virus on it and it wasn't pretty especially when I thought I had to write chapters and stories again, but I'm glad the computer is fixed now! Now all I have to do is submit whatever I need and read whatever I want to now.

My favourite characters from LOST are Kate and Sawyer, Sawyer because he is hot with or without the shirt and Kate because she is a cool person, despite she is a fugitive on the run and nearly stole Joanna's identify so she couldn't go to jail straight away. The stuff in this story is half made up, at least a little bit of it is anyway, you'll most probably recognize it anyway.

Summary:

Kate and Sawyer have a little talk about one another. Just a short little fluff I desired to write for almost three weeks ago.

Disclaimer: Don't own Sawyer and Kate, which, really sucks but I loved the three wonderful men that created them!

Something in Common

Kate Austen was sitting on the beach again, this time looking way out to sea, wondering where she was and why she was still sitting on the beach just before sunset.

The sky had a shade of orange, pink and a tinge of purple just across the sky. She smiled to know that it would be a sunny day tomorrow instead of, what Charlie called it 'end of the world type weather,' she didn't like the beach much, but every time she sat down staring at the blue skyline, she decided she like the beach more and more. Her mind started to wonder as she gazed at the beautiful sunset but it was broken by the sound of footprints behind her. Although she knew she didn't have a sixth sense, but she knew exactly who it was.

"What do you want, Sawyer?" she asked, in a tone of annoyance. Sawyer laughed behind her, she always knew where he was. He sat down next to her. Kate started to wonder what he wanted now. She liked his southern accent, it had an edge to it that made her feel like she had something in common between but she highly doubted that in many ways.

"So, you like lookin' at the sunset freckles?" he asked her. He saw her blush when he called her freckles. That was her nickname for her; it suited her well, with the freckles on her face that made her look innocent, not a hardcore fugitive on the run.

"Sometimes," she answered him, still looking at the sunset.

"You know what, when I was little, when my parents had arguments I used to run as far away as I could. I usually ended up behind the barn we had, I stayed there until the sun went down and by the time I got back home the argument finished," Sawyer said, hoping Kate would get what he was trying to imply. She noticed a tinge of sadness in his face when she looked beside her. Maybe there was a human inside him after all. Now she knew it was her turn to tell a sunset story.

"I used to watch it with my dad, when we were in Seattle, my dad, he died just before I turned fifteen, then I kept watching the sunsets and I knew he was there with, protecting me from whatever I was afraid of…" Kate trailed off slowly.

"Which was what?" Sawyer suddenly asked, gently. She looked to him again.

"Dieing alone, almost like he did," she answered, looking deeply in his blue eyes that had a slight green specks in them.

"No one dies alone," he answered looking out back at the sunset, it was almost dark, and the sun went down quite quickly. "Not even you, Freckles," he smiled at her. She smiled back at him and blushed. She started to think again, maybe we do have something in common, she thought.
