A/N: So this is supposed to be one of those short drabble things that won't be continued, just before you guys decide you want to ask. And SVU is not mine. And it never will be, just so you know.
This one's for boredsvunut and LSMunch...thanks.
She should've known that the trial would end in an acquittal. After all, she had been warned that her case was, at best, circumstantial. But she'd been insistent: this was one defendant who deserved to be tried.
Packing up her things, she looks towards the defense's side, even though she knows she probably shouldn't. Attorney and client are congratulating each other and leaving the courtroom. She watches them go, somewhat satisfied, even though she has lost. Now people know this man for what he is: a criminal, even if a jury of twelve peers has let him go.
The problem comes when the victim's family comes into her view. They're upset, and understandably so. Suddenly she feels guilty. The law is the law no matter what. And according to it, justice has been served. Suddenly she is disgusted.
If justice is acquitting a proven violent criminal, if it is leaving someone's family with no faith in the system, then she doesn't want it.
