Dr. Anne Says…

"When guys open there mouths it's either a miracle or a curse!"

She was sitting in the talon quietly drinking sweet, delicious, coffee, it was her secret drug and habit, and she could not function without it. She just sat there behind the counter wondering about "him" and when he would get here. She always took the morning shift just to see him walk in and ask her to get him pure black coffee with today's news paper. The door opened and there he was, handsome, strong and dominating, he was walking toward her and she smiled as he took a seat at the counter.

"Good morning," his voice was so sizzling, she thought.

"The usual?" He nodded, she reached beneath the counter for the newspaper and handed it to him, and she poured him the coffee and placed it near him.

Wow, she thought, 'did he even know that she existed? He immediately buried his face in the paper as though he didn't want to talk to her.

"Anything interested in there?"

"Only the normal news on peace and war," Darn it, he still didn't even glance away from the thing.

"Good morning guys," she turned to the new comer.

"Hi Clark," he took a seat, and miraculously her dream guy looked away from the paper and at Clark, man whatever superpowers he had she wished she could get it as well.

"So what is going on with you Clark I haven't seen you for a while."

These two guys were the strangest pair of friends she knew of, America's sweet farmer boy with the rich city boy, was very strange indeed.

"So Clark how is school going?" She might as well talk to him since Lex was not paying attention to her one bit.

"Its going great if you exclude the meteor infected people who seem to always attack me," she smiled, and Clark just stared at her with those big brown puppy eyes, and she couldn't help but stare back, he was such a sweet heart, like the brother she wish she had.

'To bad he was just not her cup of coffee.' Besides they broke up last year after they realized they were just not right for each other. But lately he's been giving her the eye, the one that says I really want you.

"Excuse me you two, when your done "flirting" Clark, I would like to talk to you." Lex stood up and walked over to an empty chair.

Well she was not surprise, he seem to always find his way to some secluded area whenever Clark arrived and drag the guy with him. He sat down and continued reading the paper as though nothing else mattered.

"Well, I'll see you later," Clark, like the obedient puppy he was, got up and followed. And that was that, her guy didn't even smile at her or try to strike up a conversation. It was not like she was ugly or anything, not to be cocky but she knew she was pretty. It just angered her that she was falling for a guy who just didn't care. How was she to get him to notice her? She had to think of something, anything, she needed a plan.

"Sweetie," she turned to see Mrs. Kent staring at her, "Are you okay?"

"Uh," she stuttered, "yeah, sorry I must have dazed out for a minute," she laughed it off and tried to look tired, "I didn't get much rest last night."

"Oh, well you know you know you don't need to come so early anymore since we got the new help."

"No!" Oh no, did she shout? Mrs. Kent gave her a worried expression, "Uh What I meant was I really enjoy coming in the morning."

"Okay dear, but if you change your mind let me know."

"Sure Mrs. Kent."

The rest of the morning she just walked around giving refills and taking orders, she noticed that Clark and Lex were still there, whatever they were talking about must be important because it looked heated. Well, Lex was out of coffee so she decided to go up and ask if he would like some more. He didn't notice her because she was walking up to him from behind.

"Clark," she heard him say, "You shouldn't worry yourself over girls like that, they are only into themselves, and she seems to be one of the most conceited and spoiled ones I know leave her for someone else."

'She felt bad about who ever they were talking about.'

"She is always here in the morning, drooling over you and me; it disgusts me to even know she flirts with both of us,"

'Neither one of them noticed she was there.'

"What do you mean," Clark asked, obviously at a lost.

Lex continued, "Believe me when I say this Clark, you can do way better than Lana Lang."

She froze, and the world closed in on her, Clark was the first to notice her.

"Lana."

Lex didn't even turn around, "I came to give you guys some fresh coffee," her voice shook and she felt her knees weaken. She wanted to just die! Instead she poured Lex some coffee,

"Here you go Mr. Luthor," she gave Clark one of her best smiles and just walked as calmly as she could back to the counter. She could feel Clarks eyes burn through her, God how awful and pigheaded was that man!

"Lana, you don't look too good perhaps you should go home," Mrs. Kent felt her forehead.

"Perhaps you were right Mrs. Kent; I should take a later shift. Would it be okay if I took off early today to get more rest?"

"Sure dear," she took off her apron, and headed for her apartment, walked slowly to her bed and then when she was sure no one would be around she cried and cried until she fell asleep.
