CHAPTER 5

FIGHT IN THE FIELD OF DEATH

It was the next morning at Shadow's house, Rouge was sitting on the sofa watching TV in the living room cradling Spike. She was watching the news that was talking about the train murder from last night. "Shadow, come here", she called.

Shadow came down stairs yawning tired from last night, "What?"

"Look at this."

Shadow sat down on the sofa with her and watched the news. He noticed that they were talking about a strange massacre from that night. Saying it wasn't caused by a person, but by something else. Every person was murdered aboard the train. Shadow didn't know why, but he knew he was somehow connected to the murder.

The news reporter moved on to a different subject.

Rouge took her eyes off the TV and looked at Shadow, "That's terrible isn't it, Shadow? All those innocent people...dead."

Shadow was silent for a moment not knowing what to say, "yeah, it is."

Later at the Chaotix everybody heard about the train massacre and they decided to investigate right away.

"Listen up, Charms. You and me are gonna investigate that train right now", Vector ordered.

Charmy nodded, "Sure, it's about time we got an exciting case."

Tonya walked up to Vector, "I wanna go too."

Vector wasn't sure if he wanted to let her go, "Well, Tonya..." He was cut off when a girl butterfly came through the door.

She had long blue hair with matching wings, green eyes, wearing a blue shirt and a purple skirt with yellow and red shoes and she had a necklace with a big red jewel in it.

Charmy was excited to see her, "Chloe!" He shouted. He flew towards her and hugged her then he realized what he was doing and immediately let go of her. He stood there blushing, "Uh sorry. I was really happy to see you that's all."

Chloe smiled, "It's nice seeing you too, Charmy."

"Chloe, what are you doing here?" Vector asked.

"I came to visit. I heard about that train murder on the news. That was awful."

"Yeah me and Charmy were gonna investigate it now."

"I guess I came at a bad time."

Tonya cut in, "Vector, I wanna go!"

Vector backed away from her a bit considering she got upset easily, "I would Tonya, but we need someone to watch over the place while we're gone and you're the only person for that."

"What?"

Chloe put her hand on Tonya's shoulder, "Don't worry Tonya, I'll stay here and do your job."

Tonya was grateful, "Thanks, Chloe. You're the best."

Vector didn't like the idea, 'Great, now I have to bring a girl along.'

Once they got aboard the train they looked around for clues, they found very little. They mostly saw just blood and claw marks.

Tonya got way off the subject, "I heard from Espio, that Rouge had the baby yesterday."

"Really?" Charmy seemed interested.

"Espio said the baby was adorable. He's a black hedgehog just like Shadow."

"I bet they won't have the same personality."

Their conversation was interrupted when Vector called them over to him. "Hey guys, look at this."

Tonya and Charmy ran over to Vector.

"What is it, Vector?" Tonya asked.

Vector held up a piece of black and red fur in front of Charmy and Tonya.

"What is it?" Charmy asked.

Tonya put her hands on her hips, "It's fur, you silly bee."

"You know what? It could be monster fur."

Vector sighed, 'Sometimes I wonder what that bee's on. I hope my wife's cooking isn't getting to him.'

"Wait, it is a monster!" Charmy shouted having confidence that his theory is right.

Vector hit Charmy on his head, "Charmy, stop talking shit and get a grip."

"Hey, I could be right. Only monsters make claw marks in metal."

"Okay now you're making no fucking sense", Tonya said.

"You'll see that I'm right."

"Uh huh, let's get back to the lab so we can examine this evidence", Vector led the way out of the train, until a black creature blocked the exit.

Charmy jumped, "It's the monster from the facility!"

They jumped back away from the creature.

Vector looked at it closely, "That thing looks like Dark."

"It is Dark!" Charmy agreed while shouting.

"It must be some new form or some sort, he looks a little different", Tonya said taking out her fans.

"You murdered these people. What's your plan this time?" Vector cracked his knuckles.

The monster just growled and ran at them with his claws in position. He charged at Vector first. He swung his claws at him, but Vector took a step back causing him to miss. Instead he took his tail and hit him with it causing him to fall on the red stained floor. The monster had him on the ground ready to strike at him, until he was stabbed with a small knife in his back. It caused him to bleed, but it didn't slow him down. He looked at the bee who threw the knife at him.

"Leave him alone, Dark!" Charmy took out another knife ready to stab him with it.

The monster growled and came at him. He knocked the bee down with his tail then he was on the floor. The monster took his claws and almost stabbed Charmy, until he was held up by the purple cat.

She looked at him with anger, "Not so fast, Dark." She took her fan blade weapons away from him coming at him while jumping up in the air with a kick to his head.

The monster fell to the floor getting beaten from their teamwork. He got back up ready to strike at her, until Vector came along and hit him in the face and knocked him back down on the floor. Vector was on top of him punching him to death, until the monster took his fangs and bit into his flesh making him stop. Vector got away from the creature and fell on the floor holding his bleeding arm.

The monster got up from the floor and made a run for it.

When he left Tonya ran to Vector as Charmy followed. She kneeled down to him, "Vector, are you okay?"

"That son of a bitch! He bit me! That fucking demon shit bit me!"

"Dark seemed a lot different than usual. He doesn't bite people", Charmy said.

Tonya helped him up, "Maybe that wasn't Dark. Come on we gotta go."

They left the train.
