A new little one-shot I thought of. Tis KaixTala. Also, I got the idea from Lost (getting WAY too obsessed with that program) which is how the raft thing came about. I deliberately didn't give a reason for them being on it, because it would detract from the story, and it's irrelevant. -cough- couldn't think of a decent reason -cough-

Anyway, enjoy!

Tala threw himself on his back, panting with exhaustion. "I'm sick to death of this."

Kai glanced at him from across the raft. "Of what?"

The red-haired boy gestured at the blue vastness around them. "This. Everything. Oh, I don't know." He sighed. "We've been here twenty-seven hours and counting. There's been no sign of any ships or land. We may as well face it: we're going to die out here."

"Don't say that." Kai's voice was sharp. "Any second now a boat could appear on the horizon."

"Stubborn to the last, aren't you, Kai?"

"Not stubborn; optimistic."

"You can keep your optimism, then. I'll stick with realism."

"Well, screw me for doing my best to keep us from both throwing ourselves off this damn thing! There's no need for you to contradict everything I say, acting like you're so superior!" He turned his back to the other boy, anger clear in his tone.

A tense silence fell as Tala stalked over to the opposite side of the raft. Kai trailed one hand gently in the water, in contrast to his feelings.

I just want to get off this bloody thing.

"Kai?" came a soft voice.

A slight pause.

"What?"

"Sorry. About being so pessimistic. It's just these circumstances, you know? It's enough to turn anyone insane."

Kai relented and nodded. "I know. And I'm sorry too, for snapping at you. I suppose you're right; there's not much chance of us being rescued."

"Scared?" There was a challenge in his voice, but some worry showed in his expression.

"No. Just… wondering." He took on a far-away expression.

"Any regrets?" Tala asked, out of curiosity. Te other boy thought about it for a while, then shook his head.

"Not really. The whole dying-a-virgin thing's kind of depressing, I guess."

Tala smirked, and a dangerous glint lit in his eyes that Kai didn't see.

"Oh, really?" His voice was as innocent as possible. "And say you wanted to change that. Who would it be with, if you could have anyone?"

"Fishing for a compliment, are we?" Kai's tone was amused.

Tala flashed a grin. "You know me too well."

"Indeed. I could probably predict everything you do, come to think of it."

Oh, you are so asking for it. "Don't flatter yourself, now." Leaning forward, Tala captured Kai's lips in a heated kiss, taking his prey completely by surprise. Tala felt the same, however, when Kai's arms wrapped around his waist and pulled him closer.

Breaking apart, both panting slightly, Tala eyed up Kai. "Don't even try to say you predicted that."

"Oh no, that was a complete shock. Rather a nice one, I'd say, though," he added mischievously.

"I agree." He leant back in. "Now, about that dying-a-virgin thing…"

Both boys were so busy, they never noticed the grey shadow of a ship on the horizon.

-End-
