Chapter 8 – Presence of a Prince
Hermione was taking the whole 'girlfriend' thing really well. She had figured that something new like this with her best friend would be incredibly awkward. But it wasn't at all. It was amazing. She and Ron belonged together. She knew it. She was still having her dream regularly. She has yet to see his face, but there was no doubt that Ron was her Prince. Nothing else from her dream had materialized. Except for Ron, that is.
"Miss Granger. Would you care to pay attention to my instructions, or can you transfigure your owl into a monkey already?" Professor McGonagall said, interrupting Hermione's thoughts.
"No, I'm sorry. Please continue Professor," Hermione said feeling a bit embarrassed. She had never gotten in trouble like that before.
"Thank you. As I was saying, there are steps to becoming an Animagus. One must first practice transfiguring animals into another species. Then, in a few weeks after you have all successfully completely in transfiguring your animal-" She paused by Neville's desk and looked at him. "Or after you have written me a paper explaining the process of morphing if you do not succeed, we will perform a series of spells to determine what your Animagus form will be." An excited murmur spread across the students as they all discussed what they thought their Animagus form would be. Everyone knew that the more powerful wizards would transfigure into some sort of cat or a hoofed animal. Hermione had no doubt that Harry would be a stag or something similar just like his father. Professor McGonagall quieted the students down and continued her lecture on famous wizards who has used being an Animagus to defeat dark forces.
Hermione was in the library looking up more information about Animagus. Everything she read was fascinating. She was reading a particularly interesting book about a non-registered Animagus that got caught and was banished from the Wizarding world. Just as she was reading how Jacqueline Pheoan learned how to transfigure her body into a turtle, she felt a familiar tingle. It was her Prince. He was near. Hermione searched frantically for him. She was sure it was Ron, but what if she was wrong? She turned and saw Malfoy stalking past her. He was headed towards two fifth years to tell them off for making out in the library. "No," Hermione thought. "No, not Malfoy. Something must be wrong." She would not believe that Malfoy was her Prince. He was very attractive, and he had changed a lot, but he was still Malfoy.
"Lot on your mind?" someone behind her asked. Hermione whirled around to see Ron smiling at her. Hermione finally let out the breath she had been keeping and sighed with relief. Ron stared at her perplexed. "Are you ok, Hermione?" he asked as he seated himself next to Hermione.
"I'm fine," Hermione assured him. She reached over and squeezed his hand hoping that he would drop it. She would NEVER tell Ron that she for a brief moment had been thinking about the possibility of Draco being her Prince. She smiled at Ron before diving back into her books. Ron removed a few things from his bag and began to work as well.

Hermione woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. She looked at her clock and saw that it was 2 in the morning. She sighed and laid back against her pillows. She had just had the dream again. Only this time it was a little different. Everything was the same, except for the end. After the kissing (which seemed to get more and more intense with every dream Hermione had), her Prince had given her what seemed like a warning. She recalled what he had said.
"Once everything from here has materialized, then I will come to you my love. Until then, be cautious. There will be many who stand in love's way."
Hermione sat quietly as she thought more and more about what he said. 'After everything has materialized.,' she thought.
"But that doesn't make any sense!" she shouted suddenly. Lavender Brown rolled over in her sleep and muttered something that sounded like 'shut up.' Hermione sighed and tried to go back to sleep.

The next morning, Hermione sleepily made her way towards the Great Hall for breakfast.
"Morning Granger," came a familiar drawl from behind her. She turned and smiled politely. She didn't want to deal with Malfoy this morning.
"Hey, Hermione," Malfoy said as she walked away from him.
"What, Malfoy?" she asked.
"I was wondering, you haven't told anyone about our conversation, have you?" He stared into her honey eyes. Hermione felt chills course through her body as she locked eyes with him. She couldn't deny that he was gorgeous. But he was Malfoy. And Malfoy's were the enemy. That was just the way it was. And Ron. Ron was her Prince and she was happy with him. At that exact moment Ron cam trotting up happy as can be.
"Morning 'Mione!" he said as he kissed her cheek. "Morning Malfoy," he said a little less enthusiastic.
"What? I don't get a kiss?" Malfoy joked. Ron's face showed a look of disgust. He laced his fingers through Hermione's and set off for the Great Hall.
"Why didn't you wait for us?" Ron asked her.
"Oh, I thought I was running late, so I rushed out. I'm sorry." She stopped walking and faced him. She smiled up at him and placed an arm around his neck. She drew him closer to her and kissed him passionately.
"Forgive me?" she asked.
"Of bloody course I do," he said, trying to kiss her again. Hermione ducked out of the way just as Professor McGonagall walked past. They headed into the Great Hall and found Harry already eating.
"Morning Harry!" Ron exclaimed.
"Morning, Ron," Harry replied, nearly mumbling. He clearly wasn't as awake as Ron was. "Why are you so happy?"
"Had a good dream, mate. Great dream." Ron glanced sideways at Hermione so Harry would understand. Harry rolled his eyes and grabbed another piece of toast.
"What do you have first today?" Ron asked Hermione.
"Double Herbology," she replied. A screech overhead signaled that mail was in. Hermione paid the owl that had just brought her the Daily Prophet.
"Anything important?" Harry asked her.
"No, nothing," she replied. Everyone started getting up and making their way towards their classes. "I'll talk to you two later," Hermione said as she got up.

Hermione sat in Herbology and stared at Professor Sprout.
"Excuse me, Professor. But can you repeat that?" she said.
"Of course, dear. Today, we will be learning both simple and complex spells to un-wilt flowers. Now, take out your wands." Hermione felt numb. In her dream, when she walked past wilted flowers, their blooms rose again and became brighter. First the granite unicorn, and now wilted flowers growing again. Her dream was materializing even more.
(A/N: That took forever and I'm sorry. I really am. I'm going to try and update every week, on Thursdays. Is that ok with everyone? Leave me lots of love!!!)
