"Albus." Pomfrey let out another sob as the familiar tears started falling down her eyes again. "How could you have done this to us? We needed you!" She slowly got out from the headmaster's chair where she had been sitting on, and made her way to the biggest portrait of the room. She kept looking at her feet, she couldn't see his face again.

"You promised that you wouldn't leave me! You said not now, not ever!" She slowly lifted her eyes, "If I would have know that you would leave, I would never had believed you! You know you could have asked Snape…" she stopped in mid sentence as she remembered that her fellow professor had switched sides and that he wasn't to be trusted. Her eyes finally rested on those of her former boss and friend. As another tear escaped her eye, she felt a light pressure on her shoulder.

"Fawkes… why didn't you save him like you save him last year? Were you out or simply 'unavailable'?" She gave a silent laugh at the attempted joke. But no one was there to chuckle with her. "Albus?" Pomfrey looked deeper in the man's eyes, who had stayed silent during the whole ordeal.

"My dear…" Pomfrey was surprised to hear his gentle voice. "I never thought that my leaving would harm and sadden everyone as much as it did." He took his hands and lifted them to his chest in a friendly manner. "My dear Poppy, would you every believe that I would leave you here without anything to help you win this biased with?" Her eyes lifted up in surprise as she heard her lover's voice. He was dead! How could this be?

"Go to Harry potter. He knows all." And with that, the ghost swooped down for an unexpected kiss, his cold lips lingering for a few seconds.
