Eric stood up and offered Donna his hand.
"You're walking me home." She answered herself and Eric nodded and smiled kindly at her. They said their 'good nights' and exited through the kitchen's sliding door. Anne and Jackie stood there in front of Kitty and Red,
"Thank you for inviting us over." Jackie smiled with her perfect teeth.
"Yes, I'm really glad that we've finally met." Anne smiled also.
"That was a wonderful dessert, girls." Red mumbled as he stood up and headed for the stairs. Kitty smiled,
"Well we better get going." Anne said to Kitty as she put on her book bag.
"Are you walking home?" Kitty asked motherly. Jackie and Anne nodded in response, "Oh Steven, be a dear and drive them home?" She looked at Hyde sitting there with his hands resting on his head and noticed he didn't look like he would be getting up, "Steven," She walked closer to him, "We can't let them walk home now, it's really late. Drive them home, its dark out." Hyde looked at Mrs. Forman and started making his way off the couch.
"Alright." His cool way of saying 'Do I have too?'
Anne and Jackie followed Hyde out into the driveway where his absent-mindedly opened the passenger side door of the Vista Cruiser for Jackie before going to the driver's side. This astonished Jackie, but when she looked over at him as he started the car, she knew he didn't do it on purpose.
Anne was sitting in the back staring out the window, trying to envision all of the Point Place she has not yet seen.
"Hey Anne, do you want to go eat lunch at the hub tomorrow?" Jackie tilted her head back over the bench seat.
"Yea, that would be nice. It's like a burger place right?"
"Yep, they have really good onion rings!" Jackie said excitedly. Hyde glanced over her giddy grin at this statement,
"Onion rings? You never eat anything at the hub." He brought up. Jackie looked at him a little sheepishly,
"Well I'm glad you seem concerned with my eating habits, however, how would my breath smell if I ate onion rings in front of people?" Jackie pointed out. Hyde just rolled his eyes and continued to focus on driving.
It was silent the rest of the way to Jackie's huge house. He had only been to Jackie's twice, one time when he was following Donna around because he liked her and other time when Kelso had to pick her up on the way to the movies, but he'd never been inside. Donna had always made comments about all the stuff Jackie owned and how nicely her house was decorated but Hyde could guess that just by looking at the prissy princess everyone called Jackie.
He pulled into the driveway and the two girls got out, Anne said good night to no one in particular, and walked straight to the front door. Jackie bowed her head down slightly to look at Hyde who was still sitting in the car,
"What?" Hyde retorted at her staring.
"Um. Do you want to come in?" Jackie asked bashfully. Does he want to come in? Oh hell yes he did. But then again curiosity killed the cat…screw it, he wasn't a cat.
"Sure, man." He got out of the Vista Cruiser and was walking Jackie up to the front door. She smiled at him as she pushed the door in.
"You've never actually been inside my house." Jackie mentioned thoughtfully. They both stepped inside and all he say was darkness. But then Jackie started feeling her way down the hallway and found the light switch. It was like she turned on the lavish. Wainscoting wood on the walls, sconces, portraits, every so often the opening to grand rooms, that looked just as untouchable. He was strolling a couple steps behind Jackie who was just walking through all this luxury like she belonged in it. She looked back at him when they reached the kitchen,
"Do you want something to drink?" Hyde raised his eyebrow, "Well if you do, go help yourself, I'm going to get ready for bed, " She took to the stairs slowly, "But I'll be back down."
Hyde walked into the white kitchen and was in awe of its size. The cabinets looked massive, it was bigger than the whole first floor of the Forman's. He found the custom white refrigerator straight across from the porcelain sink. He wasn't surprised that there was not much in there, it seemed as if it was divided down the middle. Anne's side was the one with the meats and expensive sauces, but Jackie's side only had vegetables and pitchers of water.
'Oh what is this?' Hyde thought menecingly, when he bent down to look deeper inside, he saw a six pack of beer shoved all the way in the back of Jackie's side. He slid it to the forward and popped a can.
He closed the fridge and turned around sipping his beer. He started to wander out into the extravagant dining room that had a heavy wooden table that looked like it should be in a castle. On the opposite side from the kitchen there were double doors made out of a dark wood.
'I wonder where they go.' He just started to open one of the doors when he heard a noise in the kitchen. He took two steps towards it, and then he saw Jackie. She was padding around the kitchen with nothing on her feet, wearing light pink flannel pajamas that hung off her frame.
She looked up at him after she poured herself a glass of water, and came over to him.
"So you like my house?"
"It's a bit much."
"Yea." She whispered, then she grabbed the door he had partially opened and went inside. He saw that it was a less formal living room with a television and sound system. She turned on the lights that dimmed slightly and sat down on the white leather couch and grabbed what looked like a huge remote. He walked over and sat down. He put one arm over the backside of the couch and the other he was drinking his beer from. Jackie sat dangling her tiny legs as she flipped through channels and then came to one she seemed to like.
"Time for Jeopardy!" The TV said. Jackie looked at Hyde and grinned widely. He laughed at her and started watching.
It was an episode he had already seen so he wasn't really paying attention to it, he just let his eyes look around at all the unnecessary decorations in the room. He heard Jackie softly answering the questions to herself. He finished off his beer and put it down on the coffee table, wondering if Jackie would notice he didn't use a coaster, but when he looked at her, she got the feeling she didn't care if it got ruined.
He stood up,
"Well I should be going." Jackie looked up and almost pouted at him to stay for a second, then she stood up and led the way back to the front door. Hyde dug in his pocket and pulled out a ten dollar bill right before stepping outside. He handed her the ten over the threshold, and she looked down at it and shook her hand that she didn't want it. But she earned it, so he pushed it towards her again.
"It wouldn't be fair if I took it." Hyde looked confused at her, "I didn't really know the answers," She said really quietly, "I've just seen all the episodes like eight times." She looked at him and gave a shy smile.
He laughed at her but then tucked the ten into her pajama top pocket. She looked at him shocked.
"You had me fooled." Then Hyde turned and walked over to his car. As he pulled out of her driveway he saw her still standing in the open door, not waving or anything, just staring out at something, maybe at him.
