It took Hyde a second or two to change into a new dry t-shirt and jeans in the shower space, he couldn't risk someone walking in and asking why he decided not to change in his own room. He held the wet clothes in one hand and was thinking of what he should do with them, when he heard Jackie call for him.
He moved closer to the door of his room, but when he reached for the doorknob, Jackie opened it out towards him and then he saw her face peeking out at him from the side.
"Uh, can you get me a towel?" Hyde nodded, she must have been naked. Jackie is naked in my room, he thought, who would've thought? He gathered up a green bath towel and tapped the door, Jackie opened it again but instead of seeing her face, a long naked arm came out and felt around for Hyde to hand her the towel. "Thanks" She closed the door all the way.
Hyde decided to just leave his clothes in the shower to dry out instead of packing them into a ball and throwing them on the floor of his room, then he sat on the couch to watch the television yet again.
Donna walked in through the basement door. Hyde got slightly scared but replaced it with zen, he can't do or say anything that would let Donna know that Jackie is putting his clothes on in his room. Because when she finds out that while Jackie and him were torturing each other, Jackie and he ended up soaking wet? Her face would be priceless! He smirked at his own thought,
"What's up?" Donna asked less as a greeting and more suspiciously because of his smirk.
"Oh nothing much." Hyde was the master of looking aloof. He silently praised himself for it.
"Um. alright." Donna usually just gave up when trying to have a conversation with Hyde, because it would never get any where useful, "Is Eric home?"
"Yea. But Mrs. Forman said something about him not feeling well. I think he's still sleeping." With that answer Donna got up and walked up the stairs, to go see Eric and see if she could help him, in any way wink
Jackie opened the door of his room and took a step out. She was wearing a pair of grey sweatpants that were way to big for her, Hyde saw that she had to use the tie and wrap it around her twice. She also had on a black undershirt, also too big for her, but the fabric was sort of stretchy so it seemed to fit her form a little, but it was so long that it went to the middle of her thighs. Jackie took a few steps and had her hands up in her hair, making it into a high ponytail. Hyde watched a little too enthralled, as some of the shorter hairs started to fall slowly forward on her forehead. Before he knew it, Jackie was sitting on the couch and looking at the tv. A commercial came on,
"I'm really comfy." Jackie exchanged a look with Hyde that meant thank you. There was silence between them for a couple minutes then Jackie tucked her legs up underneath her,
"These boxers make it feel like I'm not wearing any underwear." She said awkwardly, how could boys walk around feeling like their stuff was all open to the air, she wondered. Hyde laughed deep from within his belly, and Jackie couldn't help but smile at this.
He started to calm down a bit when they both heard footsteps on the stairs and for a moment they both tensed up. Donna came down first with Eric close behind her.
"Hey Jackie. You just come over?" Donna asked. Jackie looked at Hyde for her answer,
"Yep, just walked in the door."
Donna and Eric looked at each other, why hadn't Jackie answered for herself, and especially why did she look to Hyde?
"Is there something weird going on?" Eric looked from Hyde to Jackie and then back again.
"Nothing more weird than the sound of your voice!" Jackie burned, Eric had a stuffy nose so he couldn't pronounce things like he usually did, and he sounded a little too nasally. Hyde and Donna both gave a little snicker at this, but Donna stopped right away when Eric gave her a look and said,
"Don't laugh at the sick."
Donna and Eric sat down next to Jackie on the couch, Eric being the closest to Jackie. Jackie scooted her butt more to the arm of the couch to get away from him, but he just used the new space to spread himself out more. Jackie stood up and put her hands on her hips,
"You and your icky germs, stay far away from me!"
"I've been trying for years." Eric said quietly, Jackie just gave him a sneer and sat on the chair closest to the door.
"Jackie what are you wearing?" Donna finally asked the question neither Hyde nor Jackie wanted to answer sincerely. Jackie looked down at herself,
"What this?" Trying to act like she didn't understand the question.
"Yea that. I didn't think you even owned sweatpants. You kept telling me that they were for ugly people only and threw a pair of mine out the window." Jackie blushed as Donna told the truth.
"I borrowed them." Jackie blurted out. Hyde gave her a secret shocked look that she glanced back with a hint of embarrassment. She needed to explain more, time to lie, "Yep, I borrowed them," She said more confidently, "I took them from Michael. Yea, Michael. Because I wanted to be comfortable in the circle tonight so I could have a better experience?" She ended her horrible lie with a slight raise in her voice making it seem like she herself was unsure of what she said, which in truth she was.
Donna and Eric seemed to buy it though,
"Hey man, are we having a circle tonight?" Eric looked over to Hyde, who was looking at Jackie with what looked to him like a blank face. Hyde had been staring at Jackie and giving her subtle looks of encouragement for the lie. But then Eric asked a question, damn what was the question? he thought.
Hyde faced Eric and looked at him, he thought it best to answer yes or no,
"Yes."
"Oh goodie!" Eric squealed like a schoolgirl, and Hyde rolled his eyes. His eyes he thought, where did he leave his sunglasses?
"No, Eric. You are not smoking tonight." Donna chastised, Hyde understood now, Eric asked him about the circle Jackie spoke about.
"Oh why?" When Eric whined this, Jackie and Hyde cringed because the whiny voice and the stuffy nose made it sound like fingernails on a chalkboard.
"Because your sick, you will only make your throat hurt more." Eric pouted at Donna at which she smiled at and moved in for a kiss.
"Can you pout elsewhere?" Jackie asked rudely, not wanting to see gross germ infested kissing.
"This is my house." Eric said and when he and Donna's lips touched, Jackie stood immediately and walked out the door.
