The former superhero known as Jessica Jones was moving from one side of her apartment to the other, looking first for her keys, then her jacket, then her bag. All the time rattling of instructions to her new babysitters.
"Call Luke's cell if there's a problem. I'll have my phone off while I'm working, but if it's an absolute emergency or you can't reach Luke call the Daily Bugle and ask for me."
Teddy Altman and Billy Kaplan watched her stride around the living area, occasionally nodding when she looked up to see if they were listening. In Billy's arms was Max, Jessica and Luke's bright baby daughter. She gurgled lightly and started sucking on which ever of Billy's fingers was closest, wailing in a fit of baby-ish delight.
Eventually Jessica found everything she needed, went over the emergency numbers, nap and feeding times again, and after giving her baby many "I love you's" and "I'll miss you's" was out the door.
Not long afterwards the three of them were sitting on the couch watching television. Max was in Teddy's arms, sucking on a bottle half full of water. Her clear brown eyes stared vacantly and Teddy watched her, he wasn't sure there was anything more amazing in the world.
"You like little kids, don't you?" Billy asked.
The trance broken, Teddy looked up at his boyfriend. He nodded, grinning like an idiot. He'd love to have kids some day. It's partly why he volunteered when he heard Jessica Jones needed a babysitter.
"Yeah. I think they're great. I want like, five."
Billy huffed. "Oh no you don't, I was there when my parents brought home Zack from the hospital. It's okay when you're babysitting, but living with a baby is not something I recommend to anybody who needs sleep in order to function."
Teddy shrugged, still smiling.
"S'cool. We'll just adopt kids who are old enough not to need diapers or anything."
Billy looked startled for a second. He recovered quickly though and reached over to take Max from Teddy's arms. Bringing her head up to the towel across his shoulder, he started to pat her back gently.
"Well, I guess if it was my baby I might feel different." He murmured into Max's fuzzy baby hair.
Max let out a few inaudible burps and Billy stood with her in his arms.
"It's time for her nap, I'll go put her down."
Jessica came back four hours later and they handed Max over to her very relieved mother. The two boys walked together until they split to go to their separate homes for the night.
Teddy was at home in bed before he realized what an oblivious idiot he was.
End.
