Why Can't Those Two Work Things Out?
AN: In this chapter, Rachel is a lot meaner than in the show, but I couldn't think of another way to write it.
After leaving Monica and Chandler's apartment, Rachel couldn't hold back the waterworks anymore. She just kept thinking 'If only I had been a day earlier' and tears kept streaming down her face. When she got back to her and Phoebe's apartment, she immediately went into the freezer and got the ice cream. Not the low fat stuff, but the stuff for the really dramatic times. Once she got the good stuff, she went to the couch and ate it while just staring off into space and thinking about what to do next. 'Should I still tell him?'
After Ross and Kendra left Monica's, it gave the other four time to game plan.
"OK, like we said earlier, we need you guys to talk to Ross. Not get him to break up with Kendra, because that's mean, but at least get him thinking." Monica stated, trying to help the guys out.
"What exactly are we supposed to say? 'Hey Ross, do you still love Rachel'? Could that plan BE any worse?" Chandler quipped, trying to talk sense into the girls.
"Listen Bing, just be clever with it. Get him talking about Kendra, and then talk about how he was with Rachel and if there is still something there. It's not that hard!" Phoebe almost yelled, getting Chandler to jump back a little.
"OK, we'll talk to him tomorrow after his date." Joey said, convinced that this was a good enough plan.
Later that night, Ross met Kendra at a nice restraint, not too fancy but pretty nice. They started talking about their early lives, past relationships, etc. Ross noticed that Kendra was a little conceited, but he didn't really mind. After the date, Ross felt like there was a connection, but nothing special. They had shared a kiss once they reached her building, and it was slow and sweet.
After spending the whole night sulking, she got up and went to work. She tried to put on a happy face, but everyone could tell that she was forcing it. After spending the day doing almost nothing, she went over to Monica's as usual.
Ross finished work early because he just wasn't into his lecture that day and dismissed class about 20 minutes before the bell. He then went over to Joey's because he said he wanted to have a "guy's night" with him and Chandler.
"Hey guys." Ross said as he entered the apartment, throwing his coat on the foosball table and grabbing a beer.
"Hey. How was work?" Chandler said, trying to spark a conversation.
"What? You never ask me that?" Ross was astonished. 'Do they finally appreciate my job?'
"Well, I guess it just came out. I really don't care. Anyways, how's the relationship with Kendra going?" Chandler asked, trying to get the conversation over with because he was already uncomfortable.
"Pretty good, I guess. I don't really feel the spark I felt with Carol or Emily."
"What about Rachel?" Joey said, bringing her up to try and get Ross thinking about her.
"Well, yeah. Her too, I'm just a little confused about some stuff involving Rachel." Ross said, trying to see if he could talk about his problem.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, ever since we had the argument about Jill, I've been having some feelings for her again. And last night when I kissed Kendra, I couldn't help but think about Rachel." Ross spoke honestly, wondering if his friends could help him.
'Sweet' Joey and Chandler both thought, shooting each other smiles once he said that.
"Really? Well maybe you should talk to Rachel about getting together." Joey said, thinking it was going somewhere.
"No, I don't wanna do that. She doesn't wanna get back together and I'm with Kendra now."
"How do you know she doesn't wanna get back together? Maybe she is waiting for you to make a move." Chandler said, trying to get Ross to get the courage to.
"No guys, I'm with Kendra. Besides, Rachel never waits for me to make a move; she always comes after me even if I'm with someone. Like Julie, Bonnie, and Emily. Ross was getting even more confused. 'They obviously want me to get with Rachel, maybe they know something'
"Do you guys know something I don't?" Ross asked, trying to get to the bottom of the sudden Rachel talk.
"What, no! We were just, uh, flapping our gaps." Chandler quickly said, trying not to get caught out.
"OK, let's just drop the Rachel stuff ok?"
"Whatever you want man, whatever you want." Joey said, thinking they had gotten enough out of him.
After about another hour, Ross decided to go pick-up Kendra and bring her over to Monica's again.
Once Rachel had gotten to Monica's, the three girls talked for about an hour about many things, but mostly Ross.
"I just can't get him out of my head Mon. What am I gonna do?" Rachel questioned, trying to think about anything but the man she loved.
Before Monica could answer, Chandler and Joey came bursting through the door, ready to tell the girls the good news.
"Hey girls. Guess what?" Chandler asked, excited about the news Ross had given them.
"What?" All three asked in unison.
"Ross has feelings for Rachel and thought about her when he kissed Kendra." Joey said happily, smiling at Rachel.
"Really?" Rachel said happily, thinking that there was still hope for their relationship to work out.
"Yeah, but he doesn't think you have feelings for him, so he is trying to basically force a relationship with Kendra. Speaking of her, he's bringing her back here any minute." Chandler stated.
Before anyone could respond, Ross and Kendra entered the apartment. Rachel's hope was a little weaker. After saying their hello's and such, the four girls started talking while the guys went to Joey's to play some foosball. Monica and Phoebe went to Ross' to get ingredients for margaritas, leaving Rachel and Kendra alone.
"So Ross, he's a great kisser, huh?" Rachel asked, trying to make Kendra uncomfortable.
"Yeah, we had our first kiss last night!" Kendra squealed, excited about her relationship.
"Did you guys sleep together? Because on my first date with Ross, we had sex." Rachel said, trying even harder to not only make her uncomfortable, but jealous too.
"What, you used to go out?" Kendra asked astonished.
"Oh yeah, I was his first love. In fact, we slept together 298 times before he cheated on me." Rachel said, now even trying to make Ross look like a bad person.
"He cheated on you? Would he cheat on me?" Kendra asked, losing confidence in her relationship with Ross.
"Well, he cheated on me. He also kissed me twice while he was with other women, so he could. Oh yeah, and he's been divorced three times." Rachel said yet another bad thing about him, pretty much making Kendra hate Ross.
"Wow, I never would have thought that. Do you think I should break up with him?" Kendra asked Rachel, which wasn't smart since Rachel wanted her gone.
"I would, but that's just me. Actually, I definitely would, you can do a lot better than Ross." Rachel said, happy that Ross would be free, but feeling terrible about being such a bitch.
"Wow, well I'm outta here. I'll see you around." Kendra said, almost running out of the apartment.
Kendra barged in on the guys playing foosball, surprising them.
"Uh, Ross. I don't wanna date anymore, goodbye." Kendra said, then leaving quickly.
Ross immediately ran out of the apartment, catching Kendra on the street wanting to know why she was breaking up with him.
When Chandler and Joey left their apartment to go to Monica's, they saw Monica and Phoebe coming up the stairs.
"Do you guys know why Kendra broke up with Ross? We saw them talking outside." Phoebe asked.
"I have no idea, but I think Rachel had something to do with it." Joey said.
Once they entered the apartment, they saw Rachel have a sad look on her face just staring straight ahead.
"Guys, I did it again. I broke Ross up from another girl. I just kept saying all of these terrible things about Ross, like how he had been divorced three times and how he cheated on me. I'm such a terrible person." Rachel said with tears dropping down her face.
"Yeah, that was pretty bitchy." Chandler said, not really thinking.
"Chandler, be quiet or none for a month." Monica said, while Joey laughed and pointed at Chandler.
"You shut-up too Tribbiani or I'll have to pound on you." Phoebe yelled, grabbing Joey's ear so he would obey.
"Rachel, sweetie, that wasn't very nice what you did. But it's over, and look at the bright side. Ross is single again. Besides, I didn't really like Kendra anyway." Monica said, trying to cheer Rachel up.
"I guess, but…" before Rachel could finish, Ross entered the apartment with a mean look in his face.
"Rachel, can I talk to you on the balcony for a minute? NOW!" Ross yelled, looking pretty mad.
Rachel barely nodded her head, following Ross out onto the balcony feeling worse than ever.
