As He Cries
She sees him crying. He stands beside the beautifully carved stone arches, staring into the dark lake. His shoulders tremble almost too slightly to see, but he reaches up to wipe away the tears every so often.
He gazes at the stars reflected in the lake's still surface. He is wondering what he could have done better. She knows he tried, and she loves him for it. But it is not enough. His love is not enough. The darkness is inside her, and this place is cold.
She sees him crying, but she will not go to him. It will only make it harder when she leaves.
The gulls cry out, and Celebrian walks away from the one she loves.
