Whenever I recall the very minute
I met you in that dim and smoky hall,
The game I started willingly – to win it! –
Seems worth the pains it costs me, on the whole.

I call you names, you do the same, admit it!
I tease you to be sniffed at. What a goal!
I make you laugh; you make some things deleted…
I save your life, you save my very soul.

You call on me damnation, plague and thunder.
I claim you'd frost whichever decent hell.
I seem to be… in love with you. I wonder…
You seem… to be in love with me as well!
