Some Things Never Change

Spoilers: Mr. Monk Gets Stuck In Traffic

Disclaimer: I don't own them, if I did, would I honestly be writing fanfic?

A/N: Please don't flame, this if my first Monk fic, I doubt it's very good, but it wouldn't get out of my head.

Summary: If I told you, my notes would be longer than the story. Suffice it to say, it's a A/N flashfic, though nothing specific. And yes, it's slightly out of character, and a tiny bit goofy.

Some Things Never Change

We're leaning against one of the squad cars, both of us rubbing sore wrists. This time, he remembers.

"How's your wrist?"

"Better, it's just gonna be sore for a while."

I won't feel too bad about saying that, it was only half a lie. It feels morelike a broken wrist, but after the way I acted earlier, I'm not about to start complaining again. Especially when he just risked his life for me. Guess he meant it when he said he'd be there.

We just sit in silence for a few minutes, watching the flurry of activity going on around us as the murderer is led away in handcuffs, and the police officers try to get things back to some semblance of normalcy.

Despite the pain in my wrist, I feel somewhat numb, still trying to process what just happened. I'm amazed at what he did, surprised, a tiny bit humbled, and generally jumbled up right now. I can't believe my boss just did that.

I glance over at him, and I can tell, he did not believe me when I said I'm fine, but chooses not to comment on it.

"Hey Mr. Monk? Thanks"

"Two way street, I said I'd be there."

"That's true."

"I know I didn't give you much to go on."

I'm pretty sure that's about as close as Adrian Monk will get to apologizing...

"I'm sorry."

Or not. I stand corrected.

"It's okay."

"Hey Mr. Monk? Would you freak out if I hugged you?"

"Possibly."

I grin, rolling my eyes. Some things never change. Or perhaps they do, the jury's still out.

A/N: Okay, that's it. This was my first Monk story, it was unbetaed, and largely a product of an sleep-deprived overactive imagination that peeks out during the times when I am trying to do essays.
