Desensitized Much

……

Kagome had but one day to spend freely in her world and she planned to use it to its fullest. It had been ages—almost literally—since she'd last had a break from Inuyasha's possessive grip…not that she minded his blind protectiveness but for someone like Kagome, who was human, it was just inhumane.

And it was on the way to school that Yuka caught her.

"Hey, Kagome!" Called the girl as her words halted the feudal miko in her tracks. She turned slowly to see her breathless friend race up to her. "Where have you been?" Yuka asked hysterically. "We haven't seen for a month!"

Kagome sweat dropped a sheepishly replied. "Well, my sickness has gotten worse, you see, and I can't be running around all the time." Blatant inexcusable lie.

Yuka frowned. "Honestly, between you and that Kudo kid I'm surprised other kids haven't ditched just for the heck of it."

They continued walking toward the domain of utter horror—Aka School—as Yuka enlightened Kagome to all that was gossip-worthy going on. "Hojo tried to visit you." She told the girl solemnly.

Kagome wasn't surprised in the least bit. "Is that so?"

"Yeah, he totally stalked your house, well sort of, for a few days just because your grandfather said he expected you to come back soon. It was so pathetic." Yuka frowned. "But, you have that other guy don't you? Do you want me to tell Hojo that you're taken?"

It was an honest question and Kagome assumed it should have an honest answer. "Well…okay."

"What?" Yuka was in disbelief. "You really want me to tell him that?"

She nodded. "Ayumi likes him, not me. Tell her to 'go for it'."

It was then that a boy with cropped black hair and gleeful eyes sprang from the nearby bushes. It was obvious from Yuka's outraged shouts that this amused being was her little brother…

He snickered as his annoyed sister yelled at him. "Why are you here? You have to be at school before even we do!"

He feigned an innocent look. "We have the day off today and I just wanted to show you…this!" With that a realistic imitation of a skull was produced from behind his back. "Ha ha ha!"

Yuka—obviously fooled but the stark white skull—screamed…loudly. A passing car honked in outrage and she simply yelled at that too.

"Let me see that." Demanded Kagome gently. The boy blushed and, flustered, handed her the skull. She turned it over a bit and frowned. "This is fake…and you made it didn't you?"

He nodded. "We've been messing around with papier-mâché in our class." Yuka just stared at the proceedings.

"You did a good job but the proportions are wrong…and you forgot indents where the ears should be."

"I could just, ya know, hit it with a hammer…or something." He murmured as she handed him back the prop.

Yuka frowned…again. "You must get this from hanging around hospitals all the time, huh Kagome?"

This merely received a bout of laughed. "Yeah, hospitals." Before Yuka could question her Kagome took off down the concrete path.

And from within the bushes Inuyasha blinked since none of this had made sense. He was given the strangest impression that some oddly shaped human had been killed by someone called paper-may…

And although Kagome wasn't oddly shaped he couldn't stand for a threat like that around Kagome now could he?

…Owari…

Disclaimer: The lilac cactus will dance at you if you accuse me of owning Inuyasha and we don't want that now do we.

Stupid, short, and pointless. I wonder why on earth I wrote it :Boggles:…

This is a one-shot…Nyah!
