The internal structure of the Titan's Tower began to hum with the buzz of electricity. Systems that had been down before began to return to life, including the heat, lights, and appliances, as well as their security systems and monitoring devices. Upstairs, Raven set the thermostat to high, shrugging off her blanket. The heat came on almost instantly, and all of the Titans breathed a sigh of relief; they would be cold no longer!
However, their newfound comfort would soon be short-lived. As Cyborg walked into the common room, the window that looked out over Jump City Bay began to flash, as a report of a disturbance scrolled across the holographic screen. "There is something going on!" Robin said, looking at the others accusingly.
Raven shrugged. "So, you were right. But we don't know if it's a threat to the city or not." She glanced over at Cyborg. "I see you managed to fix the electricity. Good work." She said, a ghost of a smile on her face.
Cyborg stuffed the 'love letter', as Beast Boy had dubbed it, into his jacket pocket, then said, "Thanks, but it looks like we've got some more problems." He looked up, reading the screen. "Dang…just when I was starting to warm up…" He grabbed his hat off of the kitchen bar, and placed it snugly on his head.
Starfire flew over to the window, placing her face against the glass. "The snow has stopped falling. And the wind is no longer blowing as hard as it was."
Robin nodded. "Right then. We should go and check out the disturbance. According to the report, it's coming from the mountains, just north of here. The ones that overlook the city." He glanced around the room, but there was one Titan missing. "Where's Beast Boy?"
Cyborg looked toward the basement stairs, then back at Robin. "He should be on is way up soon enough." He mumbled, still angry about the letter.
"Look, we can't afford to wait up on him. Cyborg, you go down and call him, then meet us at the mountain. Titans, go!"
Cyborg watched as Robin and Raven, dressed in their winter attire, headed out the door, with Starfire close behind. He wasn't looking forward to a trek in the snow, and even less, calling Beast Boy. He made his way over to the top of the stairs, and started to turn the handle on the door, but it opened by itself before he had a chance to grab it. Beast Boy appeared on the other side, two giant scarves bundled in his arms, one purple, one blue. "Hey Cy, look what I found!" He said excitedly.
Cyborg looked at the green Titan a bit shocked. It was if nothing had happened down in the basement. The letter, his outburst towards Beats Boy…just completely forgotten. He had always admired that about Beast Boy; his ability to forgive and forget. He wasn't one to be troubled by the little details. Cyborg's expression softening a bit, and his hatred dissolving, took the scarf gratefully from Beast Boy. It was hard to stay mad at him, anyway. But he'd just have to be more careful with the letter from now on.
"Thanks, B. It's freezing out there, man." He wrapped the scarf around his neck, thankful for it's warmth.
"No problem!" Beast Boy said, similarly putting on his purple scarf. "I just hope the mission goes smoothly, without any problems. The sooner we get back, the sooner we'll be warm!"
Beast Boy and Cyborg met up with the rest of the Titans, and they all started their trek up the mountain. The weather had picked up again since they left the tower, and it seemed the farther up the mountain they got, the worse the storm. The wind was strong, and threatened to push them off the mountain, while the snow was being driven at their bodies relentlessly.
Beast Boy transformed into a snow ox, his scarf whipping around in the wind. The other Titans grabbed onto his fur for support as they continued to trudge up the mountain. Raven also lent a hand, putting up a shield to block them from the stinging snow. "Robin!" She called over the roar of the wind. "How much further! I don't think any of us can take much more of this!"
Robin glanced down at his communicator, looking at the flashing red dot on the screen. "It's not that much further! Twenty…thirty feet at the most!" But just as Robin finished speaking, a tremendous gust of wind broke upon them, the worst they had encountered thus far. Even Beast Boy was having trouble keeping his balance. He quickly changed into a wooly mammoth, trying to increase his weight to keep balance. Raven was no longer able to keep up her shield, the wind was just too ferocious. Instead, she, along with Cyborg, balanced themselves against one of Beast Boy's front legs, while Starfire and Robin braced themselves behind another.
"Listen up everybody!" Robin yelled. "I want you guys to make a run for it, at the first opportunity that's given to us. If the wind lets up, even a little bit…we'll be able to make it to the top!"
The rest of the Titans nodded, weary and cold. The wind as it was now, was halting all progress. If any of them tried to take another step, they'd be blown down the mountain, lost to the blizzard. They stood like that, for what seemed like an eternity. At this rate, they'd all freeze up here as Titan popsicles. However, as they stood shivering behind Beast Boy, somebody, somewhere, decided to give them a break. The whistle of the wind became fainter, and the snow let up just a little bit. The storm was still raging, but it let up just enough for the Titan's to make it to their destination.
"Lets go!" Robin shouted, ducking from behind Beast Boy and sprinting the rest of the way up the mountain.
The others weren't far behind. Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and then Beast Boy, who transformed from mammoth to wolf, ran behind Robin.
Robin flipped out his communicator again, and watched his black dot approach the red destination dot. Twenty feet….fifteen……twelve……eight…..one….!….
And he was out of the storm.
He stared in disbelief at the scene before him. Yes, he was still on the mountain. There was snow all around him on the ground, but it had stopped falling, and the wind was no longer blowing. He quickly turned around behind him, and saw the rest of the group make their way into the 'eye' of the storm.
As Cyborg entered the 'eye', he had to check his sensors to make sure they were functioning correctly. "Wait…weren't we just out in a storm? A blizzard?" He asked, looking around. "But my censors say we're still on the mountain top…"
"Woah, dude…this can't be right, can it?" Beast Boy asked, once again in human form.
Suddenly a small blip! sound began issuing forth from Cyborg's censors. "What's this?" He mumbled to himself, flipping up the control panel in his arm. "It wasn't here when we first stepped inside this thing, but…" He shook his head, reading the data. Looking up, he looked at Robin. "There's a mechanical structure of sorts not too far from where we're standing. I bet there's something there that has to do with the storm."
Robin looked down to the ground, his brow furrowed. "Well, it seems safe enough now that we crossed…whatever that boundary was. I say we go ahead with the investigation."
"Well…looks like we're taking another trek…." Beast boy sighed, wrapping the purple scarf tighter around his neck.
Well the second chapter's up! Hah hah! X3 It shouldn't have taken me as long as it did, but...ah well. School and stuff and whatever...
Anyway! If the chapter seems boring, don't worry! It's sort of like a set up chapter for a major surprise. Tee hee.
