Eyes can tell one anything they want to know about a person. They're like an open book. They can tell you if someone's happy or if they're sad. Or if they're angry or calm. And sometimes, they change colors to do so.

The glasses serve as a barrier against the world. He can see all right without them, but few people know it. And those that do know have never said anything, because they know why he wears them. It's because they hide from everyone else what he's really feeling.

He doesn't think he's ever been as grateful for them before as he is now. Silence has fallen, and now she's looking at him, trying to see past them…trying to see his eyes. But she can't. And he doesn't want her to.

Neither of them move. What seems like an eternity passes before she finally reaches out and takes one of his hands. Almost by habit, he places his free hand over hers, not noticing what she's doing until he feels her other hand on his face.

Before he realizes it, the glasses have come off, and she's setting them on the table, keeping her grip on his hands so that he can't move to try and stop her. And she's looking him directly in the eyes. She can see exactly what he's feeling…and now…now she knows what he's never wanted her to know before. She knows that he's hurt, bothered by the fact that she doesn't trust him. That he loves her, and is still wondering why she doesn't want him to.

At this, he looks away, but she says nothing, still holding both of his hands in her own. When he finally looks back at her a few minutes later, he looks straight into her eyes, for some reason afraid to look anywhere else. And when he does, he doesn't see what he was expecting, irritation, annoyance…maybe even anger at what he said earlier.

Eyes are like an open book. They always have been. And hers are no exception, because when he looks at her this time around, he finally sees what he's been waiting for…a sense of trust, and maybe even love.

A/N: This is going to fit into Made to Be Broken when it's done, so any ideas you had about pairings are wrong. Anyways, SVU is not mine. And neither is Munch.
