Strangers
A/N: CM fic, AU. Yes the girl is named after me, but I couldn't resist. I haven't ever put myself in one of my stories, and it seems really fun! This just came to me a few days ago, and I have this really strong urge to write Chandler/Monica stuff. Just to fill you in this takes place around season 10. Chandler and Monica can have kids, are not thinking of adoption (which means no Jack and Erica), Ross and Rachel are engaged, and with Emma, and Phoebe and Joey are dating, (I had to!) I hope you like it, and please review! It's my first CM fic and I wanna know how I do!
Summary: Life for the Bings turns upside down when a tragic car accident sends Monica to the hospital. She needs a kidney to survive, and when no one else can supply what she needs, her fate lies with a 14-year-old girl, who is a complete stranger to them.
Disclaimers: I don't own any Friends' characters, although I do own Miranda, and other characters mention later. It's a surprise…!
"Happy birthday, honey…Wake up…" Monica Bing cooed. She was lying on top of her husband, cradling his hand. After trying unsuccessfully to wake him up, she decided to get out of bed and make him breakfast, and check on him later. They had a very long night, if you catch my drift. Just as she rolled over to her side of the bed, Chandler moaned.
"Monicaaa! Come baaaack!" He suppressed a grin with his eyes still closed, but Monica knew he had been awake all along.
"Chandler, you made me waste all that time trying to wake you up, and you were already awake?" She smiled, and resumed her spot on his chest.
"No, it wasn't wasted. It was my first birthday present, so to speak." He finally opened his eyes, and they shared a passionate kiss.
"I would assume last night was one of your firsts…" he chuckled, and sat up, his back resting on the headboard.
"That was really nice, wasn't it…" Monica giggled.
"Yeah, for you…" She screeched as he lunged out and began tickling her. He soon erupted into laughter, too, as they fell into a heap on the bed. "You know… I really should… go make your… breakfast… The gang… will be here soon… ready to eat…" Monica was out of breath. Chandler just stroked her hair, neck, and face, completely mesmerized. "Chandler? Honey?"
"Oh, right… sorry. Yeah, you go ahead and fix something up, I will go shower."
"Okay, you want pancakes, bacon, and eggs, right?" He nodded. Monica stood up, and was just about to walk out the door, when Chandler loosely grabbed her hand.
"I love you, Mon… Thanks for doing all this. You will never know how much you mean to me…" She smiled, and squeezed his hand reassuringly.
"Your welcome… and believe me, I think I have a pretty good idea… I love you too, you know…" She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before heading towards the kitchen, and Chandler to the bathroom.
When he got the phone call, his heart seemed to completely stop. All time had just stopped, as well. His head was spinning, and as he felt the phone drop out of his hand, Joey came up behind him, and carefully set him on the floor. He wouldn't look up. All four of his best friends were huddled around him, asking if he was okay. Four of his best friends, not five. The 5th one was the reason he wasn't okay. The 5th one, the one he loved more than life itself, might not ever see him again. Soon, his ears started buzzing, and his vision blurred. After a few moments, he felt a cold washcloth on his forehead, and he could see four very concerned faces staring at him.
"It's… It's Monica… sh-she was going to the store to pick up cake mix, and she… she crashed. She was in the middle of two other cars. They… They just got her out, and they said it doesn't look good… They said…" And then, for the first time in a very long time, he began to cry. Through his tears, and sobbing, they could make out the words, "my fault," "birthday," and "die." Ross started shaking, and called his parents immediately. Once an overnight bag was packed by Rachel and Phoebe, the 5 very close friends set out for the hospital. The closer they got, the more their hope diminished.
"Is the family of Monica Bing here?" Dr. Barnette asked. All five tear streaked faces looked up, and Ross and Chandler stood up.
"I'm her husband, and this is her brother. Is she okay? Can we see her?"
The doctor sighed. "Well, after we ran many tests we came to the conclusion that Monica will need surgery. We have her hooked up to a respirator, and we've stitched up her cuts. She has a concussion, and fractured her wrist. Her ankle is also broken, and she has many bruises. She isn't in too good shape, Mr. Bing. Right now, her left kidney was punctured somehow, and she will need a new one. If we can find her a kidney, I don't see anything wrong with her recovering." Phoebe, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, and Ross all sighed with relief, before realizing the doctor wasn't finished yet. "As you may know, you are put on a list to receive an organ, and right now, Monica was bumped up on the top of the list because… well, if we don't get her a kidney in the next couple of days, she will die."
Chandler's heart sunk, and his knees buckled. Ross helped him into a chair, and followed suit. "So, we… we just have to find her a kidney! It's not that difficult is it? We can all be tested to see if we are a match…"
"That's true, Mr. Bing. In fact, I would suggest the 5 of you follow me so we can draw your blood. But the problem is, is that Monica has a rare blood type… The chances of you finding a suitable donor in three days maximum, is… well, slim to none. I'm sorry. Follow me, and a nurse will be right with you." Chandler couldn't move. Neither could the others. If they didn't find a match in time… Monica would die, and one of the most precious people in their lives would be torn from them, just like that.
A/N: I was thinking about writing more but I am not sure what reviews I will get, so we'll see! If I get good ones then this is what you can look forward to next chapter: A talk between the friends, a brave 14 year old, and the results of their tests.
