I Wish I Knew How To Quit You, Jack Twist
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters and the story. They belong to Annie Proulx.
Author's note: This is my first BBM fiction. So it may not be very good.
Ennis Del Mar was shaking as he took the blood stained shirts out of his closet. He needed to hold them. Feel them. Remember him. Jack Twist.
He clutched them tightly against his chest. Inhaling the familiar smell that he longed for. 'I love you' He wanted to say.
Slowly he let the tears fall. He could feel the warmth as they slid down his cheeks. Dropping on the shirts that he was so tightly embracing.
He let himself remember Jack Twist. Those days in Brokeback Mountain. The love that they had had. The love that Ennis still felt for Jack.
He remembered how he could just sit there and listen to Jack for hours. Without feeling bored. Only filled with happiness and content.
He cried even more as he remembered how open Jack was about everything. How Jack had tried so hard to open Ennis up. How he had been the one who suggested that they go away together.
But Ennis couldn't do it. He was scared. Every time the thought of running away with Jack came to his mind, he would instantly remember what his father had shown him.
It was hard for Ennis because of the way he had been brought up. His father had made sure that Ennis had seen it. Seen what would happen to a queer. He couldn't bear to watch that happen to Jack. His Jack.
Jack hadn't seen what had happened to those queers. He didn't know what would happen. All that he wanted was to run away with Ennis. He didn't even want to think about the consequences.
Ennis wished that he could see Jack's face again. He wished he could embrace him. Touch him. Kiss him. But Jack was gone and Ennis knew that a big part of him was missing.
Ennis knew that Jack had longed for him. He knew that Jack couldn't stand waiting every year, just so they could go on their 'fishing trips' together.
He knew that Jack wanted more. Jack wanted to be with Ennis forever. No matter how little time they had together. He just wanted to be with Ennis.
Ennis remembered back to what Jack had told him once. "Sometimes I miss you so much, I can hardly stand it." Ennis was sobbing so hard now that he could barely breathe.
Ennis closed his eyes. He needed to see Jack again. And there Jack was. Looking the same as he did when they had first met. Smiling a smile that was only for Ennis.
"Did ya miss me, Cowboy?" Jack Twist had that happy grin on his face. Ennis ran up to Jack and wrapped his arms around Jack as much as he possibly could. Just like the hug that they had shared during their first reunion.
Ennis opened his eyes. Jack Twist's beautiful face in his mind. "I wish I knew how to quit you, Jack Twist." Ennis said with tears in his eyes.
As Ennis closed his eyes again. He knew that this time when he went to sleep. He wouldn't wake up. He would remain forever with Jack. His Jack.
