Title: Promise
Disclaimer: No own.
A/N: No beta. It ends suddenly with no point really. As of right now I can't think of how to change it. I kinda like, but at the same time I don't. AU from the end of Sasuke and Naruto's fight. Inspiration is from the italicized lyrics taken from Is This It by The Strokes, which is one of my favorite songs by them. If someone leaves a review I'll do my best to respond back promptly. XD

Promise

I can't think 'cause I'm just way too tired

The sky is so blue when it's all you can see. Laid on your back so tired and bruised, bleeding out red, red blood on such green grass. It's a beautiful day for dying. You've got to get up and make your way back to where you're needed.

Stomach wounds are messy. Blood and intestines falling out quicker than you can hold them in. Such a large gaping hole that spills out pieces of you on the ground to get dirty and walked on. Pieces of you littering the forest you've been left in.

Promises made and broken. You're losing pieces of yourself with every step you stumble through but the only thing on your mind is how sorry you are. How you tried so hard and fought so long but stomach wounds are painful and deadly. There's parts of you missing. You're not whole anymore, in more ways than one.

The forest is so quiet. It's a beautiful day for living but the birds won't sing and the sun shines down so bright and blinding. There's someone you should be looking for but he's so far ahead and the path isn't clear anymore. You aren't sure which way you should be heading. Where's the noise of birds? Where's the rustle of leaves dancing on the wind? Where is everyone when you need help through this dark patch?

The ground is dark with wet little spots marking the trail you break through the trees. Branches catching on your jacket, on your shorts, on you. Branches holding you back. Where's your teacher for this mission? Your lesson, your point, what are you doing? You've forgotten why you keep walking on.

Stomach wounds kill. There's a branch on the ground that trips you. Falling down with nothing to catch you, nothing to hold you, your hands are so red against the brown of the earth. Who knew that dirt was so warm when you're so cold. Who knew what would happen to five boys trying to be adults when they tried to keep promises.

It's been a long day. The sun must be setting because the world is slowly getting darker. The sun fading away into the coolness of night. There was a lesson about not sleeping out without the proper equipment but you lost that back when he ran away. Shouldn't you be almost back by now? Shouldn't there be someone waiting for you? Isn't there anyone?

In the end it's not even one of your own that find you. Picked up and carried along by sand controlled by another powerful monster. You hate sand, how it gets in places it shouldn't. How it's like being dirty. How this sand smells like blood and fear. How this sand isn't who you want it to be.

Stomach wounds are hard to heal. Isn't this death? Shouldn't you be cold and stiff in the ground somewhere? Aren't those pieces of you littered across the ground needed?

What do you do now that you've broken a promise?
