AN: Yo! Been a while since I updated here but I've been holding onto this chapter for a while now. Couldn't really finish it up but I got tired of holding it so I'm just gonna summarize the ending of this chap until I get back into writing this story again. Better this way than not posting at all. Not dropping, just got my attention elsewhere at the moment.
After working on my rewrite for S&M Maid for a few weeks, the grammar issues pop out so clearly here. Might need a rewrite here as well one day.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! – All important things should be said thrice. (Bless your soul Thrice Reckless) – I am invoking my writer rights – The Black family history is going to be CHANGED! I am playing with it to fit my story better. I have not personally seen my changes done before, but I could always be wrong, there are tens of thousands of HP stories, I'm not shameless to the extent of saying I read them all.
I am changing their history, their ancestors, the Peverell family tree, and Bellatrix's age relations to her sisters Andromeda and Narcissa. Not much else.
You have been warned.

Chapter 11: A Title
Jake – Harry Potter – 1 year – June:
Bellatrix Black, the current head of the most ancient and noble Black family. A member of the Department of Mysteries as an Unspeakable, and not just any Unspeakable but the senior member only under the chief.
The title of Unspeakable is one that is no longer meant literally, as only when they are on active duty are they required to remain incognito. Outside of work, they all have their own lives to deal with. It's not a job that requires ones existence be erased from the public world as it was centuries ago.
Bellatrix was a woman of many talents, a genius of her time in some fields, and a terror to face in any capacity. She had shown her ruthlessness and made those who challenged the Black family know what it was like to step on a Nundu's tail.
But for all of that, Bellatrix was one beautiful and loving woman to her family. The most stunning of thorned roses.
A woman of around five eight, with an hourglass figure, a generous bust, and wide but shapely hips. Long curly midnight black hair ran down her shoulders and piercing blue eyes that could freeze your soul stood dominant on her face.
She wasn't a very large woman, quite petite in fact, but she was one whose very presence could fill a room and demand your attention.
And currently, this legend of her time, this woman of many names and titles, with a track record of various discoveries in the international stage, was enjoying the sun on a warm sunny day at the Black mansion on one of only two days a week she came by her ancestral home.
Seated at a tea table, with all the poise and manners expected of the head of the Black family, Bellatrix sipped her tea in peace and enjoyed the rare silence.
Dreary as the ancient manor appeared in front, the back had a wonderfully kept garden with expanded spatial boundaries to create its own mini biodome.
Birds sang, insects chirped, and the wind gently blew through as a peaceful silence danced its own tune.
A silence that was soon disturbed by the Floo nearest the veranda flaring up in bright green flames and soft bell like sounds of a guest coming through. Bellatrix didn't even need to turn her head to see who was coming through at the sounds that reached her ears.
Firstly, there was a VERY select few who could even get through the wards. A brief list that was personally butchered and overseen by herself the day she became Lady of the house. Alongside the ancient wards being studied and added upon by herself over the years.
Secondly, only two people on that list arrived in such grace, and it just so happened that the Hogwarts year just ended.
"Oof!" "Why does this always happen?!" "I blame you for this." "How is it my fault? I swear this style of travel mess's with our mana." "Would you stop studying the damn thing for once and help a lady up?!" "Find me a lady and you got it."
Bellatrix felt a warm smile come to her face at the sounds of young bickering. A very rare sound in the mansion these days. But a sound that she welcomes with open arms when considering their owners.
Two pairs of steps walked by the veranda as the same voices called out.
"Hey Auntie Bella! We found some treasure and wanted to dump some stuff in the library if that's ok?" Her little adorable niece's cheerful voice called out, making Bellatrix tempted to pinch her niece's cheeks.
Bella sipped her tea with closed eyes. "What kind of stuff?"
The young man she heavily approved of as her nephew in law answered her. "Just a bunch of dark and cursed artifacts Aunt Bella. One of them is super creepy and tries to take over your mind. I think I felt my soul shudder if that's possible."
Nym's voice confirmed that. "Yeah, suuuuper creepy."
Bellatrix hummed and waved a hand with a shrug. "Sure, you know where to leave them. I'll take a look later. Hurry up though, I wish to have tea and catch up with the youngest members of the family~."
Bellatrix smiled wide and toothy at the sounds of her niece tripping and stammering as her nephew in law tried to calm her down.
The two's bickering disappeared down the hall as Jake chased after Nym to make sure she didn't trip and hit one of the priceless pieces of art or a cursed item. Which was which was always up for debate in the manor.
Bellatrix sipped her tea again in peaceful. It was just another day in the Black family house. And a certain soul shard of Britain's most recent dark lord would soon find itself at the mercy of a woman who knows no mercy.
A most normal day for the Black family indeed.
An hour later, three of them were sitting on the veranda as Bellatrix had both of the younger ones on her sides with her arms over their shoulders. "Hahaha~ I knew sharing those lines with little Nym would be amusing."
Jake huffed and looked away while ignoring Bella half hugging him. "You're a cruel woman Aunt Bella." The woman puffed up proudly at that. "But of course I am. And Nym shall be just as cruel and cool as me one day."
Nym laughed and looked at her with literal starry eyes while jake murmured about Bellatrix still being single for a reason. A sharp tap of a sharpened finger nail on his shoulder had that thought commit Seppuku.
Jake was quick to divert the topic. "*Cough* right, so about those items Aunt Bella." Bellatrix clicked her tongue with a pout. "No fun, Cissy has been teaching you too much. Nymie, you have your work cut out for you to make your man react." Nym saluted her idol. "Leave it to me sensei!"
The women laughed while Jake suppressed a shiver. Showing fear before Bellatrix was opening the gates to pain. Mentally, Physically, Spiritually, Emotionally, or Magically. Take your pick.
Bellatrix seemed to notice his control and gave a slight nod of approval. "You're coming along nicely. Now, you mentioned the items you brought? Cursed of course, otherwise you wouldn't be coming to me."
Nym nodded and answered first. "Most of it is. We found a bunch of stuff but the more boring items we don't need to identify. It's the cursed stuff and the ones we couldn't figure out that we decided to ask about."
"Smart. I assume you two stumbled on one of the many mysteries of the castle hm?" Bellatrix had a fond look on her face that made Jake curious. "One of?"
Bellatrix chuckled and nodded. "Indeed. The castle is over a millennia old and is changed by magic in strange ways few can ever match. The combination of three intersecting Ley lines, the magic of generations of masters including the founders, and exposure to young and chaotic magic of children for a millennia has done something no one of our time can truly understand.
I believe that castle is alive in a fashion. Rooms change, stairways move, secrets are born, hidden, uncovered.
Even in my time at the school, it wasn't uncommon for a student to go missing for a week at a time and show up later with a slight change. Our culture never considered things strange unless death or crime was confirmed.
I had my own few adventures. Ah~, those were the days. Full of mystery and charm without a care for the big wide world. Oh, I'm rambling aren't I?"
"No! It sounds so cool. Tell me more please." Nym was shooting her aunt big watery feline eyes that had her laugh and pinch Nym's cheeks. "Nice try girl but I'm not your lover boy. I don't have such an obviously exploitable weakness."
Jake deadpanned. "Cheesecake." Bellatrix's brow twitched. "Shush child. I was talking about my youth." She clearly diverted the subject and didn't let him speak as she spoke on her time at the school.
Somehow the conversation started at the table and ended up going on as the three made their way to the artifact room. A room more or less for storage purposes and containing useless, antique, or unique cursed items from generations of the family.
Bella rose a brow at the pile of goods. "You found quite a bit didn't you?" Nym nodded like a woodpecker and jumped on Jakes back. "Yeah, there's tons more but this is the cursed stuff." Jake adjusted naturally to holding Nym without any real thought much to Bella's inner amusement at the adorable sight. "I advise not touching three of those items, they give my senses some really bad vibes. Especially the tiara."
Bellatrix was well aware of his sensitivity to mana and it was her help that got him so efficient at using it. Jake was good but not some ground breaking genius like she could be in certain areas. She rose a brow at the ones pointed out and waved her wand over the pile of items, casting her own style of analysis spells.
"Hm… very old items among these, ancient really, and not in the clever way. Curses have come a long way since many of these were mainstream. Centuries for a few of them. I can just imagine the scowl on dear uncles face if he were alive to see some of them."
"Because they exist?" Jake mused and Bella chuckled cruelly. "In a way dear. Just as there are wine enthusiasts and followers of art, curses have their own artists. Good old uncle Orion, may his soul rot in hell, was one such curse enthusiast. Many of the collection items you see in this hall were from his hobby. Not that the family didn't have hundreds more in his time." She mumbled at the end with a shake of her head and focused back on the items.
"Ah, haven't seen that curse in a while, rots the liver in seconds. Oh~ that one's a possession type. This one…drinks the users blood dry? Interesting, I guess it came from a vampire. Entrail explosion. Forced Imp Transfiguration – that one's always fun, Overy shrinkage? Hm, must be a lineage destroyer. Hehehe~ this one is amusing – Testicle Expansion." Jake winced and crossed his legs as Bella shot him an evil smirk and Nym laughed in his ear.
Bella loved teasing anyone, and Jake was a favorite target of hers in a familial way. Jake had seen what the woman was like when she was doing it with cruelty and he knew for a fact she was being gentle in a big sister type of way.
She only paused for a moment at the joke before going on. "And this…" Her eyes narrowed on an innocent looking tiara sitting on the head of a bust and Jake internally smiled.
Yes, it was THAT tiara. There was a lot that COULD be done with such a thing, but based on magical knowledge and skill, he was very willing to let Bellatrix handle it. His only options at the moment were casting fiendfire, which he was a LONG way away from doing, use basilisk venom, which he had no access to, or lock it away and hope something else comes along.
Frankly, he didn't want to think of it at all in the RoR while he worked, so he figured he should just delegate. Make someone else deal with the damn thing.
"Kreacher." Bellatrix called with a calm tone and a pop signaled the elves arrival. "Yes mistress?" The elf wasn't the disgusting thing from the movies as it didn't spend a decade alone in a house but it was still closer to a gremlin than house elf in appearance.
Bella's voice was cold and commanding without seeming rude. "Be a dear and bring me Regulus's locket would you?" Kreacher hesitated for the slightest second before vanishing. Bella's words were not a request despite the wording.
'So I guess she knew about that one.' Jake mused. He had wondered about it but had no effective way of asking about it till now.
Kreacher arrived again with a small red velvet bag held in his hands and Bellatrix received it. She waved her wand and muttered under her breath as a chain of spells were cast over the bag and tiara. "Hmm…" That was all she said for a few minutes.
Nym couldn't hold back her curiosity as she rested her head on top of Jakes. "What does it do Auntie?" Bellatrix blinked; seemingly have forgotten they were there for a bit.
She conjured a similar velvet red bag to the first one and levitated the tiara inside it. "What does it do… well dear, there is a short answer and a long answer. In short, once worn it will possess you, destroy your mind to feed itself, and give someone else control over your body."
She spoke calmy and stroked the floating bag. Jake kept his silence as Nym tilted her head above him. "I get that's bad but some of the others sounded worse. Whats so special about it?"
Bellatrix held up a finger and levitated the two bags to Kreacher. "Take these two to my personal study at the core of the manor. Level 5 vault." Kreacher bowed with a glint of joy in his eyes. "Yes mistress." He popped away and Bella turned to face them fully.
Before either could say anything, the woman was engulfing them in a hug. Nym squeaked in surprise as her head was pressed to the side of Bella's own, while Jake felt he approached one of his lives greatest tightropes as his face was pressed into a heavenly pair of breasts. To react, or not to react, to show joy, or not to, to suffocate, or to fight back.
He was a decisive man, but this one was beyond life and death.
Thankfully, Bella acted before he had to choose. She pulled back a bit and squashed Nym's cheek with her hands as a bright smile adorned her face. Jake did his very best to not stare straight ahead into her cleavage and Bella sent him a smirk. Nym caught it and lightly slapped Bella's girls even as her face was being smooshed. "Oi, mine!"
Rather than be annoyed she laughed loud. "Hahahaha! Oh you two are just precious. And a true blessing to this family." Jake was once more suffocated in heaven and hell. "You two are adorable. But you don't know the value of what you brought me. Something I have long since searched for."
She pulled back and looked at Nym. "To answer whats special about it, I will have to give you the long answer. Come with me." She took Jakes wrist in her own surprisingly strong grip and pulled them away. Jake could have fought it but didn't see a need to. And Nym was on him so she wasn't considered.
The three moved through the halls until Bellatrix reached a door and it opened on its own for her. Inside was a sight that Jake had always wanted to see.
A large and empty room with a single expanded and curved wall taking up most of the space, with a painting of a tree on it.
"Nym, I brought you here twice over your life. Once when you were born, and the second when you were old enough to remember. Jake, this is your first and if you live long enough it won't be your last." She sent him a wink that he understood and flushed just slightly at.
She laughed and waved her hand grandly as the room's lighting dimmed everywhere except the wall. "This is the Ancient and most Nobles house of Blacks family tree. Personally, I think it's a tad dramatic but our culture encourages dramatics."
Jake looked on in interest, he was always a fan of magical history. The wall had dozens, perhaps over a hundred of names and old style faces painted on branches everywhere, like some kind of demented version of a painting of small fairies in an ancient tree. "That's a lot of people."
Bellatrix chuckled and pointed at the very bottom on the far left. "It is. The Black family is one of the oldest in Britain for a reason. And our history one of the richest."
{Licorus Black - 1808 — 1872}
Jake looked closely at the name of the first lord of the Black family, but his brows scrunched up at the date shown. "Huh, not that it's not cool, but I thought the tree would be older." Unseen by him, Bellatrix smiled wide.
"Jake Walker, what are your intentions toward my niece?" The question came unexpectedly from Bellatrix and Jake found himself completely caught off guard. "Wha…" Nym had a similar but more violent reaction as she blushed red and shot up while pushing on his head to get more height. "Auntie Bella! What the hell?!"
Nym moved around too much and Jake sprouted a wolf tail to grab her waist and keep her secure instead of letting her fall.
Bellatrix laughed loudly at the sight. "Hahaha~ Oh that's gold, I wish Andy and Cissy could have seen that." Bella ignored Nym and approached the two with a gentle smile Jake rarely saw on her face.
She bent down a bit in front of him and Jake manfully kept his eyes on her own. 'The way down is the door to hell. Om Mani Padme Hum, Om Mani Padme Hum, Om Mani Padme Hum.'
His mind furiously chanted Buddhist scripts to keep a straight face. Bellatrix cupped his face with her hands and ran her thumbs over his cheeks kindly. "I have watched you closely these past years child. I have tested your mettle and will, heard you speak your desires, seen your talent and potential first hand, and felt your care for my niece since that day years ago when I arrived on your door.
I know your more mature then you look, no need to try and fool an old woman like me. Your secrets are your own, we all have a few." She winked at him. "So tell me, do you intend to do right by my niece Jake Walker? Do you intend this family harm?" She looked into his eyes, her own striking abyssal black Iris's piercing through his own, daring him to attempt to lie before them. Daring him to try.
Nym stayed silent on his back.
Jake felt like how he answered would change something, for better or worse. But Jake Walker didn't falter or back down when challenged. He wouldn't cower before this woman, no matter how deadly she was or what reputation she had. "Does Lucius count as family?"
There was a moment of silence before Bella chuckled, then her chuckles turned into laughter as she pulled him into her embrace and smother him, and Nym along the way. "Hahaha~ oh dear, you will make a fine Black."
Jake felt himself relax against her warm and soft chest and opened a mouth near Bellatrix's ears on his head, whispering a few words into it. Bella smiled wider and almost suffocated him if not for Nym popping out like an impatient rabbit locked in a cage. "Enough hugs! Auntie! Stop meddling. He's mine!" She pushed the older woman away and Bellatrix smiled teasingly, pinching Nym's cheeks. "I know dear, a woman of house Black can be quite territorial with whats hers."
Nym growled at her and Jake chuckled before pulling Nym down off his back and into his arms with her back pressed into his chest. "Shush Nym, Auntie Bella was telling us a story." Nym grumbled but didn't say anything more besides pulling his arms around her tighter.
Bella laughed at the adorable sight and backed off. "I was wasn't I? Well, now that everyone in the room is a confirmed Black family member…" She sent a wink to the two and waved her wand. "We can reveal the true history!"
The room morphed under the wave of her wand and the two young teen's eyes widened as the room rippled and the ceiling and floor rapidly filled in with ink.
The original dozens became hundreds and Jake couldn't even tell the number of members anymore by sight.
The starting point of Licorus Black became just a branch that extended as the first name on the rooms far wall.
Bellatrix spoke as the two took it in, her voice echoing in the room in an ancient sounding tone. "Licorus Black was the known first head of the Ancient and Most Noble house of Black for a single reason. In his time, he joined a group of pure bloods that would one day come to be known as the Sacred Twenty-Eight. The twenty eight remaining pure blooded families in the British Isles.
The title was not added till after the first world war, when numerous magical families were wiped from history. But in his day, it was a notable group of the elite and held great prestige. It was there that the Black family gained much of its notoriety.
But that wasn't our start. No, not at all. That was just a branch of a much larger tree.
The Black family has been around for so much longer. Look." She pointed at the ceiling above the door, where a grand oval shaped circle, reminiscent of a seed, was painted.
In the center of it was the image of a man with distinct facial features, high cheekbones, a haughty expression, and pitch black eyes like a demon.
But none of that grabbed his attention. It was the name.
{Antioch Peverell – 1214 – 1292}
"The Tale of Three Brothers…" Jake spoke without thinking and Bellatrix smiled wide. Nym tilted her head. "Isn't that the fairy tale book?"
Bella laughed. "Yes it is dear, take the tale with a grain of salt, there is nothing to prove it's tale as truth. But at the same time, all tales have a trace of truth hidden within." She trailed off with a deep tone before coming back as Jake asked before he could stop himself. "I thought Antioch was the only brother to not have descendants?"
His eyes widened a bit as he realized what he said and Bella smirked wide. "My, my~, someone's sure dedicated to their wizarding history~."
Jake coughed into his hand. "Professor Binn's is good as his job." Nym turned her head to give him an incredulous look and Bella laughed louder. "Ha! Oh that's good. Please kid, that ghost was sabotaging the history knowledge of students since before my grandfather's era. Don't worry, I'm just teasing you."
Jake grumbled. "I have questions on that." Bella waved her hand. "Of course you do. Later. For now, I'll tell you that publicly Antioch indeed wasn't known to have a child because he made it be so. Our records show his own written journal stating how he made many enemies over his years while being drunk on power, what that power was is unsaid. Even his brothers were not friendly with him, so he hid his descendants away.
The famous family had many descendants from the other two brothers, most notably to this day were the Gaunt and Potter families. But the Peverell family was ancient even in the founders of Hogwarts day. They preceded Merlin and Le Fey just as the four pillars of wizarding society did."
Antioch's 'seed' on the family tree had roots that went along the walls near the doors, showing few names and no faces, as if the artists were unsure of what came before.
"Antioch was a fierce and combative man. He spared no expense to ensure his descendants could live on and prosper without him. He died in his sleep to a thief in legend, which is a lie. In truth, he died to a coward he defeated and spared the life of. Antioch was in his later years and missed the knife that impaled his heart from behind.
It was one of the reasons for his descendants to be so ruthless. Letting down your guard was seen as weakness, that's how the children were taught for many years." She finished in a distant and cold tone and Jake and Nym both saw the scars in her eyes. Nym pulled him forward and reached for Bella's hand.
If she noticed the twitch of Bella's hand like a reflex as she approached, she didn't say anything and just grabbed it warmly. Jake put his hand over their own and the two smiled at the woman's cold eyes until it melted like black ice in the sun.
She smiled back genuinely and grasped Nym's hand tight as she went on like nothing happened. "Antioch's line went through a few names in the beginning before settling on Black. The Black family was officially started sometime in the early 1300's.
Since then, it wandered from place to place, gathering knowledge and experience from the world, leaving crumbs and lines along the way to keep eyes and ears open, before they settled on the British Isles, integrating themselves into the nobles of the time and becoming one of many. Hiding in plain sight so to speak.
The wizarding world was different back then, an age magic was yet to be hidden, where a ministry didn't exist to keep things in check and forbid branches of magic. it was a wild and ruthless time where only the strong, the cunning, or the brave could make a name for themselves."
Jake rose a brow at her annoyed tone. 'I guess she doesn't have much love for the current ministry. Not surprising.'
"Anyway, the family went through many changes and forms during the centuries. Are you two aware that I changed the family motto?"
The two nodded and Nym answered. "Yeah, it was Toujours Pur, meaning Always Pure right?" Bella nodded with a disgusted look. "It was. I despised that line. My parents, my uncle and aunt, my grandfather, they practically spat the damn thing out on an hourly basis. They praised blood purity to an extent where family mattered less than the purity. Good riddance with that toxic mentality." She grumbled off in a faint voice and Jake got her back on track.
"That's why you made it Sanguinem Ante Omnia right? Blood Before All. It was because of what they did?" Bella turned to him and nodded. "Yes. While I despise my deceased family for how they raised their five children, I did agree and value family. I was the oldest of triplets. Andy my second. And little Narcissa our youngest. I often took the brunt of the worst of our parents for them, and I don't regret it. The three of us survived our youth by standing together, even if our parents did their best to turn us against each other down the road like they did with cousins Sirius and Regulus.
Our parents tried to enforce purity before blood. But our parents died early in the war against Voldemort when I defied their plans for me." She gained a vindicative tone of pleasure as she spoke and pulled Jake into leaning back against her chest, with Nym in his own grasp.
"There was a saying that when one faces a challenge in life, you have three options. Fight it, run from it, or adapt to it. Well… that saying became reality with my sisters and me.
Our parents were determined to make us put the motto before each other, and when we were getting to old and strong to control, they crafted marriage contracts that would enslave us to our betrothed.
Well, to be fair, it was mostly my mother and aunt, the men simply let them do as they wished. They wanted to teach us a lesson, and the contracts ensured we existed for a man we never cared for rather than pursue our own lives.
And we all responded differently.
I challenged my betrothed, a disgusting sloth of the Lestrange family, to an honor duel with the threat of a blood feud with the family if he rejected. I did it with magic as my witness in front of the entire Wizamagot. Hehehe~ you should have seen the faces of those old fogies back then when I blew open the doors and announced my challenge for all to hear." She laughed heartily and Jake and Nym found themselves imagining the scene before laughing with her.
"Huh, I wish I could have seen that. Did you get in trouble for that?"
"That sounds so badass! Boom! Get rekt you old goats!"
Bella laughed and flicked Nym's head. "Don't speak like that around your mother. Andy can be scary when she's mad." She shivered and muttered about watching what she eats.
"And no Jake, I did not. You see, the ministry likes to attempt and make laws to obscure the older ones, since it's much harder to remove and change a law then add a new one, but the original laws set down by the sacred twenty eight and founding of the ministry are LAW. They made laws to safeguard our kind in an age where we were being cut down and butchered.
The witch hunts were no fairy tale. It was a very, very bad time for our people. And as a result, the laws set down were meant to keep order and prosperity, not lead to corruption or even a sense of superiority over muggles.
So when I walked into that hall, I invoked one of the old laws. On the land of Great Britain, before a court of more than eight heads of families, if a member of one of the families issues an honor duel it must be fulfilled. The law states in finger print that the court can hear the reasoning for the duel, and if the accuser is favored as being wronged, they have the right to demand reparations if the duel is denied.
Considering I was being forced into a marriage contract that made me all but a slave, my reasoning was accepted by three fourths of the court. And the duel was enforced.
My fiancé attempted to delay but his family wouldn't have a stain on their honor and forced him into fighting. Long story short, he didn't live past the day and I was free with the promise of challenging any man who attempt to bind me in matrimony to a duel. No family accepted my parents new attempts for a marriage contract." She was smiling wide and bloodthirst as she finished and her audience clapped for her.
Bella laughed and hugged the two tighter. "Thank you, thank you. Unlike me who chose to fight, Andy chose to run when she met your father Nym. She ran into the muggle world with help from a certain and crotchy old man." She sent Jake a knowing look that had him chuckling.
When the three sisters showed up on his doorstep, his uncle was more than happy to let them give him a hard talk. The sisters actually showed respect to the man, with even Narcissa, the one who looked down on Muggleborns the most being kind.
'More like flirting.' Jake repressed that thought. It was one of the biggest culture shocks as a man who read hundreds of Harry Potter fictions to see THE Narcissa Black batting her eyes at his muggleborn adopted parent. Sure he wasn't bad looking, far from it, but the old wolf was far from a pureblood.
But overall, his uncle was happy to throw Jake to the she-wolves. Let him get some real magical teachers in them and 'grow some hair on his chest.' Bah, Jake was sure the old man was just being lazy.
Bella's voice broke his chain of thoughts. "When she ran, our mother struck her from the tapestry." She pointed at a certain name on the wall where Andromeda Black stood proudly. "Of course, I fixed it soon after.
Narcissa was more passive than us. Not strong enough at the time to overpower Lucius in a duel, and not brave enough to run and abandon what she knew, however, that made her no weaker than us.
No, if anything she was the most vicious. She used her voice, she spoke, whispered in ears, and wove a web over all of Great Britain. She used whatever she could, make deals, made enemies, made other people enemies with each other, and created an orchestra of chaos that only she could see through.
It was one of the most beautiful and chaotic things I had ever seen.
And in the end, she walked up to the Malfoy estate, sat down in front of Lucius and his father, and gave them a decree.
'Accept my terms on a new marriage contract or be crushed like an insect without a single knut to their name.'
She cut off every single financial tentacle they had. Every ally turned away. And fabricated enemies were all but pounding on their doors while she sat there with her perfect little noble smile." Bellatrix spoke in no small amount of awe and pride as her hands were gripping their shoulders tightly.
"Wow. I never heard her full story."
"That's incredible… I suddenly feel like I wished I paid more attention in her god awful lesson."
Jake shot Nym a smirk. "Told you so~." She huffed and elbowed him lightly. He responded with a head chop. She sprouted a tail and smacked his leg. He formed blunt teeth and play bit her shoulder.
Bellatrix watched on as the two fought with a fond smile and flicked both their foreheads. "Enough children, it's story time. I'm almost done." The two grumbled but tuned back in.
"The three of us forged our own paths, paths that separated us for a time unfortunately, but we snapped back together soon enough.
You see, Voldemort was not happy with the Black family. In our actions of destroying our intended fiancés in my and Cissy's case, and embarrassed and cucked in Andy's betrothed's case, we had robbed him of much.
Power in a possible inner circle member, wealth in Malfoy's fortune, and prestige in a pureblood house that allied with him being spit on.
And when the new dark lord was hurt so, he lashed out. The Black family came under attack.
All but Andy, Regulus, and our grandfather Arctucus Black the third were in the location at the time, and the seven of us came under surprise attack by three dozen death eaters and a horde of dark creatures led by the dark lord himself.
And what do you think the Black family did when faced with overwhelming odds and a threat to bow or break?"
Jake and Nym didn't answer and Bella didn't expect one as she answered her own question.
"We fought, we bled, we killed, we died, we ran, and we reminded the world why you didn't mess the Black family!" She spoke with a distant but strong tone as if she were remembering the scene in vivid detail.
"Our parents looked the man right in the eye and cast every dark curse they knew without even a second of consideration to bowing.
The following fight was not a stationary one and it engulfed multiple of the back streets of Diagon Alley. It's much of the reason only five streets still exist in working condition, and three of those five are in bad shape.
The fight spread as time moved along. Father and uncle, Cygnus and Orion, faced off against the dark lord in a two to one duel while the rest of us spread out to thin the herd.
It was not a short scuffle, it lasted hours. The area was blocked from Apparation or Portkeys, but it went both ways as the first thing my mother and aunt did was throw up their own wards to trap them in with us.
I fought harder than I had before in my life, acting before thinking, firing off spell chain after spell chain, slicing through flesh with my knife time and again, and I left a trail of bodies or pieces of them behind me.
At some point Andy joined us with her husband, and a rouge figure moved through the dark lords forces striking them from behind. Regulus stood with us.
We decimated their forces. What came as a small army was reduced to a dozen members by the time things wound down, but we bared our scars.
Orion and Cygnus fell from attacks to their back, the dark lord had grown tired of games and threw away honor. Mother and Aunt fell from overwhelming odds, Andy, Cissy, Sirius, and I were injured with Ted Tonks throwing up our last shield. And we watched on as our cousin and brother Regulus Black struck a blow against the dark lord and destroyed the anchor holding the anti-apparation ward up.
Our last sight was of the killing curse hitting him right through the chest before Andy and I side apparated the rest away." Her voice was brittle at the end and Jake realized he had stopped breathing during the tale.
Nym shuddered a bit as she asked. "But, if the battle went on so long, where were the aurors? Anyone? You were in the heart of Magical Britain."
Bellatrix scowled and looked Nym in the eye. "Listen well little Nym and get this through your head. Never believe in the British ministry to help you. Never believe someone will come save you. No one came for us, no one stepped in to help us, no one tried to help us. They watched from the side, from the windows, from the cracks, as a magical battle went on for hours in their own center of power!" Jake rested a hand on Bella's shoulder and the woman shot him a harsh look but he didn't relent. He wouldn't stand for even Bella taking out her anger on his Nym.
Bella calmed under his look and deflated as she hugged the two with an apologetic expression. "Sorry."
"It's fine Auntie." "We're here for you Aunt Bella." The three shared a warm and silent hug as they digested the words spoken before Bella rested a hand on Nym's head and brushed her hair aside.
"I got a bit heated there but trust me little Nym. Become strong, stand with those you trust, don't believe some hero will come save you for selfless reasons, and remember our motto. Sanguinem Ante Omnia. Blood Before All.
I didn't make those words lightly. I am only the third since the founding of the Black family to change the motto. The third in the last seven hundred years.
And when I say 'Blood' I say those you consider family, those who bled for you just as you bled for them. We make our own family, we trust our family, and we tell the world exactly what happens when you screw with our family. Because when you mess with the Black family, you open pandora's box."
Nym shivered and looked at Bellatrix with starry eyes. "Oh! I'm so stealing that last line!" Bellatrix laughed and flicked her nose. "Nope, it's mine. Trademarked it and all."
"Boo!" Nym booed her and Bella huffed before grabbing her cheeks. Meanwhile Jake was trapped in the middle of the two play fighting females and coughed loudly.
"*cough*!"
"Let me leech off your awesomeness auntie!"
"No, your mother will get angry."
The two ignored him.
Jake sighed and flicked both women in the face with the end of his wolf tail. ""Oi!""
Facing two sources of angry feminine forces, Jake chose not to falter and charge. "Quite children." His young but commanding voice did little to cool them off.
'Plan B.'
He waved his wolf tail in front of Nym's face and sprouted wolf ears with every ounce of adorable charm he could manage.
Soon he was…well… he was still in the center of the two but he was being fluffed by the two of them. Bellatrix didn't hate animals, and cute things were cute, so his ears captured her attention.
With both appeased, he asked his questions. "Aunt Bella, not that I didn't enjoy story time but how did this all relate to the Tiara we brought you?"
Bella's eyes lit up in joy as her hands worked his wolf ears. "Ah! Right, thank you. Well, when the five of us ran that day, we weren't going down without a fight.
We used numerous ways to make life a pain in the ass for the dark lord and his forces, and no matter how much the 'light' side likes to portray it did, we were responsible for much that went wrong behind the scenes.
The reason the dark lord even HAD to fight in the first place was definitely not because the ministry was strong.
But in the end, the dark lord, our enemy, decided to get offed by a baby of all things. If you believe the tales of those bumbling old fools in the ministry anyway."
Jake raised a brow. "I thought Dumbledore was the one who spoke out on it?"
Bellatrix chuckled. "Ha! He did, in a way. He has a habit for saying little, and letting others come to their own conclusions. And the old man doesn't care for correcting any of them. He's a willy old one, but harmless all things considered.
Strong as he might be, he has the heart of a scholar and teacher. I would bet money he would gladly give away all his positions beside the headmaster of the school if someone were worthy of them in his eyes.
But that's beside the point. The man said Voldemort was gone, and that the baby of the Ancient and most Noble Potter family was the cause. And the people took it from there."
Nym poked her aunt. "What do you think?" Bella smiled and poked the girl back. "What do I think?
I think Lily Potter Nee Evans was one of the brightest witches of my era. Shame the girl was charmed by Potter and caged a lot of her own talent. I wouldn't say Sirius's best friend was a malicious man, but he was a man who didn't like being overshadowed by his partner, and Lily wasn't one who wanted to fight on it.
I was good friends with her and Alice in our school years. Bright women those two. At their best they could match me for intelligence, but Lily caged herself and Alice cared more for being a mother than furthering her studies.
So when I heard the news, I did not believe in some miracle. I believed in Lily Evans doing something I would have done. When I joined the Unspeakable's I learned that traces of blood magic were performed in the home. Lily was the true slayer of Voldemort, and her boy was unfortunately shoved into the limelight as a result. Fame isn't good for one so young in any form."
Jake wanted to keep things moving along and coughed. Bella rolled her eyes and flicked his ear. "Yes, yes. Anyway, I had mixed feelings about the ending. It was abrupt and disrupted the whole game board of war we had going on.
On one hand, I was overjoyed, and on the other, I was angered I didn't end his life myself. But I put it behind myself as grandfather decided to prepare me to take over the mantle of Lordship, being the most qualified of who was left. Andy married a muggleborn, Cissy was to passive, Sirius was…Sirius, and I was the best option.
Move time forward a bit, and when I became head of the family and took over the manor wards, I upgraded them with my own skills as is customary among new lords, and I discovered an unwanted soul inside the manors grounds." Her eyes narrowed. "I traced it down to find an innocent little locket sitting in a broom closet and Kreacher showed up bowing and crying for leniency.
It was then that I finally learned the reason Regulus initially betrayed us by joining the death eaters. Well, betrayed us siblings, as before I and my sisters did what we did, our parents supported Voldemort's ideals.
Regulus was the most cunning of us all and snuck into the enemies lair, got right up to within reaching distance, became a trusted member, and ripped free the one true way to harm the dark lord."
She waved her wand and conjured images in front of her as she spoke. "A horcrux. That was the dark lords secret to power and immortality. He cast away parts of his souls into objects, and therefore he couldn't truly be destroyed.
Immune to the death curse, skilled in all forms of combat, and incapable of dying before his anchor is destroyed. The man became of a cancer. And Regulus, the most cunning of all the Blacks, ripped his secret alongside his anchor from him.
He didn't have time to destroy the locket. According to Kreacher, the two of them had just barely escaped a cave full of Inferni at the expense of a third members life, when the skirmish in Diagon Alley had begun.
Kreacher was told to destroy it but was unable to. I on the other hand finally found an outlet for my wrath."
Jake felt a cold drop of sweat go down his back at the vicious look on her face. 'Well…canon is fucked.'
Bella proved his thought as she went on. "Splitting your soul sounds great in theory, not so much when your enemy gets ahold of your container. The Black library stands head and shoulders above any other in Britain when it comes to curses, and we have an entire section of how to harm someone's soul.
So, long story short, I've been having…fun with his soul. And I do believe it spreads along to any other links to his soul exists. The soul can be split but it's still tethered together. Bah, that's a bit advanced for you two, I'll tell you in a few years.
Anyway, unfortunately, I discovered through my tortu… experiments… that the man had to have split his soul more than once. I only held around 12.5% of his soul in my possession. Enough to cause great pain and partially deal damage to his mind and memories, but not enough to do heavy damage or locate any other parts of him.
I need at least 50% to find other pieces.
What you two unknowingly did today, and the reason I have just given you a very valuable chunk of information on the history of this family known to less the four living people including myself, is because you two brought me a second piece of his soul. I confirmed it by matching the locket to the tiara."
Jake didn't bother having to act surprised. He was surprised. 'Holy shit… canon is beyond fucked. I wonder if Voldemort is even conscious? I mean… he did take like ten years to get a single body to possess.
Wait… why was his soul in Albania in the first place? Didn't he die here in England? What the fuck did he do to get all the way over there?'
Jakes mind went down a spiral while Nym was badgering Bella with questions. The woman laughed and patted their heads. "Now, now, I think that was plenty of story time. Why don't you two go gather up your other cursed artifact toys and bag them. I'll hit them all with a few jinxes to make sure they are never used on our family and then you can go sell them.
If those goblins at the bank try anything funny, tell them you have my permission, here." She handed Jake a key from inside her dress. "This is proof you have my will. Don't take shit from them and let them rip you off for being young. Cissy taught you better than that."
Jake saluted the woman and Nym bugged her for more time but she was quick to shoo them out. Likely eager to get away and play with her new toy.
On the way out though, Jake managed to ask her an important question. "Aunt Bella, is it possible to cleanse the item from a Horcrux and use it again?"
Bellatrix gave him a surprised look but answered promptly. "Unfortunately, no. It's a shame but the soul piece literally devours the magic item as fuel to form. It's one of the downsides and costs to using a magic item as a soul anchor. You can't have everything in life, and while a powerful magic item will last you a longer time material wise, it also destroys the value of the item.
That's why you won't read about ancient pharaohs being tied to a random rock or something if you look up the subject."
Jake was disappointed by the answer. 'Damn, no using the locket to getting into the chamber, or using the tiara for OP brain learning powers.'
He seemed to be noticing a pattern of not getting free hand outs in his life. 'I'm all for working toward my goals, but does every cliché have to be turned away from me? I hated them while reading a story, but now I want them as the person in my own story.
Bah, power unearned isn't worth it I guess.'
He threw away his worries and followed Nym into the Floo. The trip to see Bellatrix took longer than he thought it would, but they still had time in the day for a trip to the bank.
It was time to see how the goblins faired up to a few more cliches in his memories.
Jake hoped they didn't disappoint.
*Line Break*
Kyle – Pokemon – 4 months – December:
A young boy and an Eevee stumbled out of a tree line in a sprint while the boy rapidly wiped sticky spider webs off his face.
"*Spit*, gah! It's in my mouth, nasty little shits!" Kyle complained while spitting the flavor of web out of his mouth.
"Ee!" Loki responded in agreement while shooting copious amounts of sharp golden stars back into the tree line.
Behind them, a group of Spinarak shouted and waved their little limbs wildly in protest for their prey getting away. Kyle's brow twitched as he stood up fully. "No, screw you, you bastards! Don't leave webs on a main path!"
"Spin!" They shouted in reply. Kyle's developing senses picking up the intended insult in their words.
"Sic em Loki." "Ee!"
The string of flowing swift stars tore through the branches and webs alike, scattering the wild spider Pokemon. Loki didn't let up until half his aura was spent, just as annoyed with the damn creatures as Kyle felt.
The two had been harassed from the tree tops by them for hours on their way to their destination. Loki probably could have taken their whole nest in his beefed up state, but they never fought directly.
Kyle spat the last of the taste from his mouth. "Enough buddy, their gone." He could feel them leave his Aura sensing area.
Loki stopped before whining and pawing at his fur. Kyle knelt down to help his partner clear his fur of the sticky webs. "Stay still you baby." "Ee." "Yes, yes, you're a big baby now." "Ee!" "No, I raised you, baby status is stuck for life." "Eev." "Sure, you can have a snack." "Ee."
The two talked in their own way of long time partners until Kyle finished wiping off his fur. "There we go, all clean and fluffy again." "Ee!" Loki called out happily and licked Kyles cheek much to the boys amusement.
He grabbed a mini poke block treat from his belt and tossed it to his partner. "Just one buddy, we got stuff to do today."
Loki jumped up and caught the treat with a smile and Kyle chuckled and recalled his partner into his ball. Usually he would just let Loki out beside him but today was a different situation than usual.
Kyle re-shouldered his pack and turned to face away from the tree line, gazing up at the large sign ahead with a determined look.
[Welcome to Eterna City!]
Situated in a canyon between two high rock walls, Eterna city's entrance sat wide open, displaying the civilized city beyond.
From this distance, and with his enhanced sense of sight, he could make out the edges of old Japanese style buildings beyond the entrance and his ears could pick up the sounds of hundreds of people going about their lives.
He sighed at the challenge before him. It wasn't the gym itself that annoyed him but the people.
'I really hope this isn't like Jubilife.'
After three months of training at Lake Verity, and with the weather having noticeably cooled into winter, Kyle felt ready and comfortable traveling north. The cold was his element and he found himself noticeably more energized then normal while traveling in the chilly air.
The cold wasn't as noticeable down south, but the farther north he went the more he saw it's effects.
Jubilife City was supposed to be his first stop, just to stop in and restock his supplies, but Kyle never even made it past the city limits.
Jubilife is the largest city in Sinnoh, the sixth largest in the known world, and it's modernized to a point of being a match for New York City in his old life for a concrete jungle.
The sheer amount of teeming emotions from all those people, in a place with so little nature, was like an aura bomb to Kyles mind. He actually spent a half an hour puking at the tree line from how nauseating it was.
He hadn't ever felt such a thing before, but after his transformation from aura into something in between a human and Pokemon, he was completely unprepared for the new sensation.
Kyle had fallen in love with aura and the world, but he never knew how much of a cesspool a large concentration of humans could have without any nature around to neutralize the bad elements.
Nature breathed, it lived, it cleansed. Tree's took in the CO2 humans breath out and create oxygen for us to breath. Nature was a washing machine of aura, and a city was its anti-thesis.
No matter what he did, he couldn't take a single step forward toward that city without feeling like wadding through a sewage system that went uncleaned for years.
The Tv tower itself was like a beacon of negativity and sewage that blanketed over the city all on its own.
He had no choice but to skirt around the city's edge and avoid it entirely lest he lose whatever was left inside his stomach. It wasn't an experience he wanted to have again, but it was a valuable lesson.
Kyle had become too in tune with aura, he was to attached to the flow, to sensitive. So he needed to find a way to dull his senses enough or he would never be able to be around humans for the rest of his life.
The walk from Jubilife to Floaroma Town helped with that. After some trial and error, and talking to Jake about it and brainstorming, Kyle got the idea to create a second skin around him like armor.
Instead of feeling as if he were connecting with the world around him, he would feel like things were muted somewhat, be more human than Pokemon in a sense.
It was… restricting. It felt awkward, like he was wearing an extra layer of clothing he didn't like and wanted to throw off to breathe. But he knew he needed it and worked on it, refining it slowly on the journey north.
Its effects were tested as he stopped at the challenge of dozens of challengers along the way. Kyle would try and chat with them for a few minutes to get a feel for how well his second skin worked.
And Floaroma town was a great benchmark to challenge himself. Thanks to the time of the year, the fields had a layer of snow on them and the flowers weren't in season, so the town wasn't packed with tourists from around the region.
Thanks to that, he was capable of interacting with just the residents of the small town, a few dozen people, and managed to find his balance.
He restocked all his supplies, thankful that Floaroma town was one of the main suppliers of the synthetic berries the Sinnoh league grows and was able to stock up on all the potions, PokeBlocks, and other consumables he desperately needed.
Skipping Jubilife after four months by the lake and during winter was a killer on his emergency supplies.
'Sis Aster really helped me out there.' Kyle mused to himself thinking about those weeks where Loki's nose was the only thing that helped them find enough to eat.
The trekking through Floaroma town was quite pleasant thanks to his improvements. The thin layer of snow on the fields, the smells of wood burning from chimneys, the sights of simple people going about their lives wearing thick coats, and the sounds of the towns blacksmiths hammering away ringing in the winter air.
It was a pleasant experience, and Kyle was very interested in coming back in the spring to see the famous flower field before the tourist wave comes. The friendly town folk were happy to tell him the best time for such a thing.
The trip through Eterna Forest was not a pleasant one. There is a reason most people avoid it in the winter season, and that's because the Pokemon that are not hibernating are ones that hunt in packs. Most of the intelligent ones having found homes for the winter while the wild unthinking ones roam in droves without their natural predators.
Kyle and his team had to fight a few vicious fights and sleep with an eye open at night and someone always on watch.
If the three months by the lake helped to truly bulk up his team in size and all their areas of focus, then the forest was a real trial by fire.
It was also the first time Kyle had taken a life.
It was a weird feeling; one he can't say he enjoyed but one he didn't regret as well. He watched as the aura fled from the cooling corpse of a wild Kricketot. The Pokemon had tried to jump them and take a bite out of Aurora. The queen took great offense and skewered the Pokemon with ice shards before freezing it solid.
Aurora didn't even see an issue with it. The Pokemon attacked her with the intention to eat her, and she responded with like kind and didn't hold back.
It never stood a chance.
And as it lay shattered on the ground, Kyle could quite literally feel it's aura seep into the earth, blending into the flow until it existed as part of it and no longer a single ego.
It was strange. The cooling feeling spread in his brain, he felt focused and logical, and he saw life in its purest form.
Perhaps it had to do with his experience seeing the river of light on the day he changed, but it felt like death wasn't something to fear.
All that lived died, but death wasn't some evil concept but just a cycle. He didn't wish for death and he didn't necessarily wish to give death to others, but he would defend himself as necessary, and his foes would return to the flow.
Right? Wrong? None of that mattered. The world didn't care. It was purely a human concept of the collective to protect themselves from what they fear.
Kyle came to the conclusion of simply looking at the world like one large jungle. Seeing it in simpler terms than falling to the lower complexities.
He would do what he must and move on. Nothing more and nothing less.
It took two weeks to get through that forest, and something changed in him along the way, something he didn't mind as it was always there, just unfinished in its conclusion.
It was when it clicked that he felt himself suddenly grow closer to ice. Purer in a way. Less burdened by chains of his own making.
So it was two weeks after entering that forest, having faced numerous foes, that him and his team wore badges of being blooded, and stepped into their next adventure.
A city to challenge his conviction, and a gym to begin his circuit.
As he reminisced he passed over the boardwalk with a frozen lake and into the well paved street leading into the city.
At the juncture in the entrance between the two canyon walls, a low white fence functioned as a barrier with a small booth in the center.
The window opened as he passed and a voice called for him to stop. "Stop right there!" Kyle turned to look and saw an Officer stepping out of the booth. A middle aged man in uniform came up to him. "Where are you coming from son?"
Kyle tilted his head in confusion. "The forest?" The man deadpanned at him. "Don't be a wise ass kid, I meant what are you doing out here. It's winter, very few come on this road."
Kyle hummed. "Ah, so that's why I didn't see a lot of trainers in the forest. I'm coming from Floaroma, doing the gym circuit."
The officer blinked and gave him a closer look. Noticing the scuff marks, spots of dried mud and blood on his shoes, and general wild feel Kyle was giving off. "You really came through the forest in winter kid?"
Kyle nodded and the man clicked his tongue. "Damn, they got younger every year I swear." He mumbled to himself before waving a hand. "Come back to the booth, I'll check your ID and you should be fine if you're telling the truth." Kyle shrugged and followed the man. No need to make a big deal out of a guy doing his job.
He handed over his Trainers License and leaned against the booth wall as the man put it into his computer. Feeling like making small talk after weeks in the forest, Kyle breathed out some cool air and started up a conversation. "So, not to be rude, but I kind of expected Officer Jenny to be out here."
The man scoffed and laughed at that and typed away. "Ha! Good one kid. The Jenny family has at least one member in every city but they are usually the chiefs. To be fair to her, the chief does make her rounds but she's in charge of the whole city. Can't expect the chief to be doing grunt work like me you know. Haha."
The man was surprisingly happy to talk. 'Probably doesn't get all that many people coming through here.' Kyle mused at his tone. "Anything interesting happen recently?"
"Well, depends on what you consider interesting. There was that…"
The officer chatted away with Kyle as the machines checked him out and soon enough, it came back green. "All right, your good to go kid. Head over to the center and get cleaned up, I think you earned it." The man gave Kyle a pat on the shoulder in acknowledgement and Kyle smiled and thanked the man.
There was something nice about being recognized for the effort you put into things and your accomplishments rather than your age.
It was a weird quality of the Pokemon world, but with children as young as ten running around, or eleven in Sinnoh, it was expected not to judge a book by its cover so easily.
The officer even recommended a nice out of the way restaurant to him to enjoy a really delicious meal for the price. Kyle already felt better than his experience with Jubilife.
Eterna city wasn't some massive metropolis, but an older style city somewhere between traditional with its old style Japanese homes and attempting to modernize with changes here and there being obvious from the old.
The streets were clean with old style stones giving the whole place an older feeling, and people were out and about with their various tasks.
'This isn't so bad.' Kyle's second skin was doing wonders for his senses, but the city was a lovely place. As he walked, he noticed a large closed off area to the north of the city and asked a passing woman about it. In her words "Some rich company bought up the land and started planning to build a big corporate building."
On further asking, he learned it wasn't very welcome in its entrance to the city, as many didn't appreciate the modern building attempting to place itself in an area of older culture.
Kyle thanked her and moved on. 'So that's where Team Galactic will set up soon huh?' Kyle was of mixed minds whether to do anything about them before they became an issue in the first place.
But how exactly was he supposed to do that? He had no voice, no status, and no money to make something happen. 'What was the leaders name again? Cyrus or something. I'm pretty sure the guy was a psychopath with a god complex in the games. But he was a psychopath with a genius mind for mechanics.'
The guy was like some kind of emo apathetic version of Tony Stark in a way with desires of recreating the world in his image.
'Bah, that's future Kyle's problems.' He pushed the thoughts away. He had no idea of where to start with that one, and he didn't look fondly on the idea of storming the castle and believing plot armor would help him.
Soon enough, he approached the Pokecenter with its bright orange roof and walked through the automatic doors. Immediately on entry he got hit with a wave of heat and voices of dozens of teens of all ages talking and moving around.
The sight made his skin crawl. 'To many people.' He grumbled and pushed through them to get to the front desk where a Nurse Joy was typing away at her computer. "Good afternoon." He called out calmy and got the woman's attention.
"Oh! Good afternoon young man, how may I help you today?" Nurse Joy smiled at him kindly and Kyle placed his three pokeballs on the desk. "Just want to get my team checked up after traveling for a while. Also, here's my ID, I have a note from Professor Elm on file." Nurse Joy took the balls and ID with a smile.
"Right away, let me just get you situated here." She inserted his ID and looked over his information.
Each trainer gets only five free nights a month in a Pokecenter and unless it's an emergency the free healing is limited as well. "Hm, you have been a trainer for just over five months now, and wow, no visits to any centers. I'll be happy to look after your team. And…hm… I see." Nurse Joy read over the note from Professor Elm stating Kyle had permission to apply vitamins to his team.
It was important to mark down otherwise a Nurse Joy would be quick to raise a red flag to the league. After all, the improvements of his team were not small, and no small dosage of regular vitamins from the department store would show such effects.
His team was not in any way taking something like steroids or drugs, it was just supplements like a body building uses protein powder, except in very high dosages to fuel significant growth if the body is pushed enough.
His team got to where they were through blood sweat and tears, the supplements only helped pump them full of high quality nutrients and target area's to grow in more than others.
Nurse Joy gave Kyle a quick look before accepting things and hanging back his ID. "All right young man, I'll give your team a good scan and make sure no hidden injuries are present. Using supplements tends to do that even if the Pokemon in question doesn't realize it. It should only take an hour or two."
Kyle nodded. "Thank you, I don't suppose you have any rooms left?" He mentioned while looking around and Nurse Joy shook her head in apology. "Sorry, were booked. This time of year trainers don't tend to move around so quickly. I can recommend an inn for you if you like?" Kyle nodded and Nurse Joy was happy to offer him a map and directions.
Kyle thanked her and left the center for the inn. 'Feels weird without my team with me.' Kyle had already explained to his team he would be leaving them to heal at the center, so none of them reacted and popped out of their balls.
Their aura bond was still there, the tether stretching over the distance, just muted and unable to send anything over it. Like a string in Kyle's eyes of glowing green going into the distance.
The Inn he found was just as Joy stated. A nice little place with an old style Tavern feeling. He booked a room with the kind old woman behind the desk and placed his stuff down in the room. 'Time to take my first real shower in months.'
He didn't smell as he washed in lakes and rivers, not to mention his cold aura helped keep him from sweating, but a shower was still different.
The cool water flowed over his growing body and his long silver hair fell damp against his skin. Kyle would admit to having stayed in longer than necessary, and after cleaning up, he bundled all his dirty clothes together in a bag and left the Inn to find a laundromat nearby.
Technology was a wonderful thing in some areas, such as advanced washer and dryers that can clean your clothes well in thirty minutes for only a small fee.
By the time Kyle got all his equipment and clothing clean and back in his room, enough time passed to head back to the center where Nurse Joy was waiting with his team. "Welcome back. Your team is in perfect health, I must commend you on your care for them. Eevee and Vulpix have beautiful and well-groomed fur, and your Magikarp is a… powerful specimen." She started joyously and ended with a weird tone.
Kyle chuckled at that and accepted the tray with his three balls laying on it, his team was just an interesting mix of personalities. "I know, thank you Nurse Joy." He once more felt the bond snap back into place as he latched his pokeballs onto his chain hanging from his belt. His team sent their warmth over the bond and Kyle sent his back, relaxing the young teen.
"Your very welcome, did you find the Inn all right?" She asked in slight concern and Kyle gave her a small thumbs up. "I did, your directions were perfect and the Inn had room. Not to be rude and change topics here but is the gym open at the moment?"
Kyle wouldn't lie that he wanted to get his first gym underway and Nurse Joy laughed and nodded. "I understand your eager so no worries, and yes it is. The gym closes at eight."
Kyle bowed his head in thanks and left the center with directions from Nurse Joy. It was time to challenge the gym, no need to wait another day and delay it.
'I can't wait to see how my team matches up against the gym. Our plan to handle the grass types should definitely be amusing.' He got a sense of anticipation from his teammates and Magikarp was practically blazing with fighting intent.
Kyle rolled his eyes with a smile much to the confusion of a passerby but he was ignored. To others, it would look like Kyle reacted to nothing while to him he was having a conversation with his partners without words.
To the very south of the city, the gym stood tall and proud. A massive building made of white stone and covered in vines and greenery.
Kyle marveled at the sheer size of it for a moment as he walked. 'Fitting for the grass type gym.' The automatic doors opened as he approached and he stepped inside into a warm lobby with two medium sized statues flanking the door.
"Welcome! Are you here to challenge the gym?" A cheerful teen girl called from behind the front desk as soon as he walked in.
The lobby was surprisingly empty except for the girl. Kyle walked up and nodded. "Mn, I am." The girl held out a hand. "Trainer ID please."
Kyle handed it over and she scanned it. "Oh? First time challenging a gym. Do you need an explanation?"
Kyle nodded. "Please."
The girl smiled brightly and went on. "Ok, well seeing as it's your first time challenging a gym, and your within your first year of training, I'm going to mark you as a tier 1 trainer.
We have 10 tiers for trainers, with two tiers each for Novice, Apprentice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Ace trainers.
The tiers listed may vary depending on factors judged by the gym trainers you face, either moving you up or down a tier based on your teams strength and skill. The number of years you have been an active trainer also are taken into account, with a full year counting as enough to bump you up an extra tier as a challenger.
So if you trained for eight years without getting a single badge, you would be facing tier 8, not 1.
At the max, before reaching your 2nd year of training you can only be raised to tier 3 without having more than 2 badges. So don't worry too much~! You have plenty of time to challenge the gym.
As a tier 1 challenger, you will face two gym trainers before being allowed to continue on. The matches will be one on one. If you are promoted to tier 2 by your first gym trainer, the match will become a two on two.
Any questions?"
Kyle went over the information. Most he knew already but it never hurt to check. "Do I get time to rest between challenges?"
The girl nodded. "Each tier has different rest times, and if you reach the gym leader you can schedule for a different day. Or the gym leader will schedule for a different day if her schedule is busy. Either way, defeating your gym trainers will guarantee you a shot at the gym leader within three days as long as there is no emergency situation that requires their attention."
Kyle found that pretty fair. "Thank you, I would like to challenge the gym now if possible." The girl checked her screen and smiled. "Perfect, we have arena three available at the moment, I'll send the gym trainer on duty a ping. Here's your ticket, please go down the hall and take door labeled #3. It might take them a few minutes to get there.
Oh! And a friendly reminder, your challenge for the day ends when you lose. We welcome everyone to challenge the gym, but things need to be done orderly for anything to get done. If you win, you will be allowed to proceed immediately.
Best of luck~!"
Kyle hummed and sent the girl a thumbs up before walking down the hallway behind the desk. There were dozens of doors but he was able to see the large #3 in front of one of them.
'I like how clean cut everything is. I wonder if it's all gyms or just this one.' Kyle fondly thought back to watching the first season of Pokemon where the electric gym in Kanto had a long line waiting outside and the gym leader fighting them all back to back using a single Pokemon.
Something like that just wasn't viable in a real life setting. Hence the current gym having a tier system and needing to face gym trainers before being able to challenge the leader. 'Huh, I guess it's pretty much like the games then. Just without all the crazy interior puzzle challenges.' He was thankful for that. Some of those things were downright creepy.
His indicated door led to a well-lit room with a medium sized grassy arena. No one was inside for the moment so Kyle shrugged and went to the challenger corner. It wasn't more than two minutes longer when the doors opened and two people entered.
One wearing a judge uniform and the other wearing what Kyle could only assume was a bright green boy scout uniform for a middle aged teenager. "Hey hey! Sorry for the wait!" The guy smiled brightly and Kyle nodded at him. "Thank you for coming."
The guy sent Kyle a thumbs up and jogged to his corner. "No worries little dude, it's my job, the names Kevin. Now, are you ready to battle!?" Kevin spun in a circle and pointed at him with a high dosage of enthusiasm.
'…' Kyle felt awkward and looked toward the judge who was sighing and looking away from the gym trainer. Kyle just nodded to Kevin in response.
'Doesn't he feel shame? He's like sixteen and acting like a power ranger.' Kyle had seen a few of the trainers he fought have weird themes, and it always hurt some part of his brain to bear witness to them. 'I can already see Jake's twitching hands wanting to stab them for making him witness such a sight.'
In his own world, Jake suddenly shivered while walking out of the bathroom. 'Who walked over my grave? Wait.. I'm alive. Kyle or Nym…'
Back with Kyle, he focused on the judge who took pity on him and stepped forward. "This will be a tier 1 gym match between gym trainer Kevin and challenger Kyle. The match will be a one on one and it ends when I say so or when a Pokemon is unable to battle.
Are both trainers ready?" Kyle and Kevin nodded. "Release your Pokemon!"
"Go Cherubi!" Kevin called and threw out his ball, releasing a Pokemon that looked very similar to a large cherry stem with one full cherry and a second not fully grown cherry. "Cher!" The cherry called out happily.
Kyle looked at his foe for all of a second before making his choice. "You're up Typhon." His ball was tossed up and Typhon came out in a mighty war cry as he flopped on the ground with a wet sounding splat. "Magi!" The massive specimen of a Magikarp called out loudly.
The judge faltered a step and Kevin's face scrunched up.
"…"
"…"
"Magi…Magi…Magi…" Typhon chanted excitedly as it flopped while the two looked on awkwardly. There was a moment of silence before Kevin coughed into his hand. "Um…little dude, you sure about your choice? You could choose another if you messed up, I won't say anything." He tried to offer helpfully and Kyle appreciated it but shook his head. "No thanks."
Kevin dropped his hand awkwardly and shared a look with the judge before sighing. Kyle's sensitive ears heard him whisper. "Well, you live and learn I guess. Hope the kid isn't crushed."
Kyle internally smirked at the their faces but didn't let anything out. The judge got in position and waved his flag. "Match, start!"
Kyle felt a wave of aura expand as soon as the judge spoke and felt psychic energy form around the arena like a barrier. His muted senses couldn't tell where it came from, but he knew official gyms had psychic Pokemon on duty for barriers and teleportation needs.
Kevin started things off with a dramatic wave of his hand. "Cherubi! Use growth! We got time to charge up." "Cheri!" The cherry Pokemon glowed and began absorbing green light from the grass around it. At the same time, Kyle called out. "Typhon, fly."
Typhons eyes shined eagerly. "Magi!" Before the eyes of the two spectators, Typhon slapped the ground with his makeshift version of tail slap flexing all the bulging muscles along his body to do so and soared into the air.
Like a rocket taking off, Typhon twirled in the air, projecting his majesty to the world below, and then he began to glow.
Kevin and the judge's eyes bugged out. "Oh shit! It's evolving!" "Oi oi, are your serious!?" Their fear was justified but unfounded as gravity took hold and Typhon fell back to the earth below, except the second his body hit the ground, it was as if a bouncy ball hit a flat surface and Typhon ascended back into the air, faster and higher than his original elevation.
Like a dragon soaring to the heavens, Typhon reached toward the ceiling and locked fierce eyes onto his target, an innocent and small young cherry. Kevin seemed to realize what was about to happen as well as he shouted. "Cherubi! Dodge!" But the small and young Pokemon was frozen under the burning eyes of its foe.
"MAGI!" Typhon descended like a Draco Meteor as his body was on a collision course with the young Pokemon. Cherubi was like a deer in the headlights as he approached, but at the last second, a red light caught Cherubi and removed it from play.
*Boom!* a small crater formed in the arena that shook the ground and rose a cloud of dust. Kyle smirked at the sight. 'Good job buddy.'
The dust quickly cleared with the ventilation system and Typhon was seen flopping happily at the bottom of his fish made crater. Kyle chuckled and recalled his partner, sending a congratulations to his partner.
There was silence from the rooms two other occupants as they both looked like they were questioning reality. Kyle coughed to get the judges attention.
The guy blinked owlishly and raised a flag in Kyle's direction. "Right… um… Winner! Kyle!"
Kyle nodded. "Can I challenge the next trainer now?" The judge twitched but agreed. "Yes, just let me call it in. I believe we are raising you to tier 2 for the next challenge. Right Kevin?"
Kevin seemed to snap out of his thoughts and looked up. "Huh?" The judge sighed. "I said we are bumping him up to tier 2 for the next challenge." Kevin breathed out exaggeratedly and seemed to perk up. "Heck yeah! That was insane! I've never seen a Magikarp do that! I'm still wondering if someone slipped my morning coffee with something again…" He trailed off and Kyle sweat dropped. 'Does that actually happen to him?'
The guy was a whirlwind of energy as he got excited. "Oh! I need to get the others to see this. I'll go get Jess for the next challenge; her face will be priceless. Oi kid, I won't say anything to them but will that crazy magikarp be continuing?" Kyle shrugged; it didn't hurt to admit it. "Yeah, he's got some more in him."
The guy laughed and shot him a thumbs up before sprinting out of the arena. Kyle shot the judge a questioning look and the guy sighed. "Sorry about Kevin, he's… the peppy kind of guy. Drives some of us spare but he's a good guy." Kyle didn't say anything more and sat down on a tree stump nearby while the judge used the arena's phone to call in the results.
He mused to himself as he waited. 'For now, the sheer shock factor works in our favor but once the information gets out, I can't hope for easy fights like this. Typhon flying, or bouncing I guess, IS a crazy sight, but it has its own weakness's that any good trainer could exploit. Oh well, I'll take what I can get and let him have his fun for now.'
The wait wasn't long and soon enough Kevin was greeting him along with three others. A male and female pair waved at him before sitting on the side while the third member moved across from him. "Hey there, my names Jess and I'll be your opponent for your tier 2 challenge. It's going to be a two on two, are you ok to continue?"
Kyle sent her a nod and said nothing. She didn't seem annoyed by that and just smiled. The judge came forth once more and announced the rules before waving his flags. "Gym trainer, release your Pokemon."
Jess threw up a ball and in a burst of light, a Budew appeared. "Bu!" The little grass type danced around happily. Kyle observed it quickly and saw that while young, it was more well developed, had thicker limbs, more vibrant leaves, and felt confident in its steps. 'This one should be able to take a hit at least.'
"Challenger, release." Kyle through up his ball and Typhon reappeared. "Magi!" He bellowed and Jess's smile faltered. She turned to the side to shoot the excited looking Kevin a weird look before refocusing. "I don't know what happened in the last fight but don't think I'll take it easy on you kid."
"Match, start!" The judge waved both flags and Kyle wasted no time. "Typhon, fly." "Magi!" Typhon repeated his cycle and slapped the earth.
To Jess's credit, she only stood shocked until the point that Typhon executed his bounce and started gaining elevation. "Budew! Stun spore around yourself and then dodge!" "Bu!"
The Budew spewed out a cloud of yellow dust, obscuring sight of it from Typhons eyes, but Kyle and Typhon had prepared for the chance of someone trying to mess with his line of sight. "Spin." His voice rang out calmly but it reached his partner immediately through their bond. "Magikarp!" Typhon reached his climax and began to descend, generating momentum and then used all his weight to spin forward, sending a sharp gust of air from the force of his tail to clear the cloud of yellow dust, revealing a wide eyes looking Budew.
Typhons falling speed was too fast for Jess to call out another command and Budew reacted on instinct to try and dodge. Try being the key word.
*Boom!*
Another crater filled the stadium and Kyle could see the twitching expression of Jess, the wide eyed look of her friends in the bleachers, and the shit eating grin on Kevin's face as he stood up and shouted. "Ha!"
The ventilation system cleared the smoke, revealing the swirly eyed figure of Budew on the edge of the crater, having been clipped instead of being hit dead on.
"Good job Typhon!" Kyle called out to his partner as the fish with a few scuff marks on his scales flopped happily in his new crater. A proud look on his face.
Jess returned Budew with a complicated expression. "That's… an interesting strategy you have there." Kyle hummed. "Just playing to my partners strengths." Jess grunted out a response. "I see…"
The judge waved his flag. "Gym Trainer, release your second Pokemon!"
Jess threw up a ball and a second Budew came out. "Bu!" Jess shot Kyle a sharp look. "Let's try this again."
"Match, Start!"
Kyle and Jess spoke at the same time. "Fly." "Pin Missile."
Typhon slapped the ground and rose into the air just as Budew spat out five sharp needles of bug energy at Typhon. The first two missed from Typhons maneuver, but the last three hit his body. "Magi!" Unfortunately for the grass type, Typhons tough scales weren't there for show and the pins shattered on his scales, effectively pushing him off balance and spinning in air.
Kyle clicked his tongue. 'Gonna be off target but no choice.' "Bounce." Typhon bellowed and glowed white as Jess called out. "Razor leaf!"
Kyle's eyes widened at the advanced move and looked on as half a dozen leaves formed and shot toward Typhon like a cannon. His aura bond flared with meaning but Typhon's eyes shined with determination and Kyle held his tongue.
The razor leaf hit the airborne Pokemon dead on and Typhon was launched backwards, away from the ground in a call of pain as Jess cheered. "Nice job Budew! Your Magikarp might have a good move but in the air it's helpless!"
Kyle nodded. "You are correct. But you might want to read up on the effects of the move Bounce." Jess tilted her head in confusion but before she could say anything, an orange missile bounced off the barrier of the arena and launched right back at where the attack came from with twice the speed as before.
"Magikarp!" a dragons bellow rang out and Budew had no chance to dodge before it was slammed into by the cannonball and slammed into the far wall, knocked out in a single hit.
Magikarp likewise slammed into the barrier, but his tough body helped absorb some of the impact and he landed on the ground roughly, in a good deal of pain from the grass type attack, but still very much in the game as he flopped weakly.
Everyone stared wide eyed at the sight for a moment before the judge snapped out first and waved his flag. "Budew is unable to battle, winner… Magikarp… Kyle wins!"
Jess snapped out at the call, ignoring Kevin's loud laughter, and recalled Budew as she approached him. "How… what…" She looked speechless and Kyle recalled his friend, immediately sending his congratulations and a portion of his aura into the ball to help heal his partner and responded to the confused trainer. "The move Bounce is a flying type move. But it does not require wings to use but simply momentum. Once activated, the first surface the Pokemon comes into contact with will function as a springboard. Typhon was hit by Razor leaf and hit the wall before he touched the ground, meaning the wall is what he bounced off of."
Jess absorbed that for a moment. "I guess that makes sense, but how come I hadn't heard of that before? Hell, how does your Magikarp know a flying type move?"
Kyle shrugged. "How he learned it is mostly his own work, I just helped him refine it. Gyarados is a water and flying type if you recall. And the reason you never heard of the move acting that way is that most flying types actually have wings, hence they can adjust things."
Jess shook her head with a sigh and smiled. "Your one of those super serious from the start trainers aren't you? Always trying to find new ways to break the usual system. Damn, at least I got to face a rising star at his beginning."
Kyle chuckled and shrugged. "Who knows. Can I challenge the gym leader now?" Jess waved a hand to the judge who was on the phone. "He's calling it in already; if she's available you will be able to go right in. You going to use that monster of a fish in your gym match?" Kyle just shrugged in response and Jess didn't ask again. She patted his shoulder and walked off. "Thanks for the match kid, best of luck out there. I'll stick around to watch your match with Ms. Gardenia." She walked back to her friends who began teasing her for losing to a Magikarp.
The judge hang up the phone and came over. "Ms. Gardenia saw the recordings of the match, she said to give her an hour to finish up some paperwork and she will meet you in the main arena. I'll guide you there."
Kyle thanked the man and followed him out, with the retinue of gym trainers following behind and messing with each other. Kyle found it nice, seeing friends act like that. 'I wonder how Jakes doing, I'll send him a text while I wait.'
At the back of the hall he first entered was a large set of double doors that opened to reveal a massive dome shaped chamber filled with greenery, tree's, flowers, and various grass Pokemon moving about. "Wo." Kyle said in amazement and Kevin came up next to him. "It's amazing right?! We call this Ms. Gardenia's private garden. She planted or moved most of the life you see in here."
Jess and the other girl blushed and they both shot Kevin a look for his wording and Kyle wisely kept his laughter internal. The guy didn't seem to realize why the joke was a joke at all and soon was being dragged off by the two females to explain to him why spreading the joke was not advised.
Kyle, the judge, and the other guy walked ahead with blank eyes, ignoring the screams from behind as the judge explained. "The arena is in the center of the biodome, just through here."
"Not the face!"
The other guy also chipped in. "Most of the grass types you see here are the young ones that get to watch the gym leaders fights, and the ones interesting in battling learn by imitation or step forward to join the gym trainers in challenging young trainers like yourself."
Kyle hummed. "I kind of feel bad for the Cherubi Kevin used. it didn't look very old."
The judge chuckled. "Don't worry, Pokemon don't suffer psychological damage as easily as humans. I've seen younger ones than that bounce back with a good rest. Physical damage is a different thing, but that's why we have the tier system at all."
The three made idle chatter, enjoying the sounds of grass type Pokemon and drowning out the background noise of whatever screaming male types.
An hour later, almost on the dot, the gym leader stepping into the arena with a smile while laughing behind her at Kevins face and telling the girls to cool off.
She walked over with a smile and held out a hand. "Kyle Silvers, nice to meet you. Interesting Magikarp you have there."
Kyle shook her hand. "Likewise Ms. Gardenia. Can we begin the challenge?" Gardenia smirked. "Eager are we? Sure, just let me grab two tier 3 challenges for you, I doubt tier 2 will be much for you at the moment." She stepped off to a wall that pulled out and revealed rows of pokeballs.
Kyle stepped over to his corner and processed her words. 'Eager? No, I kind of just want to be done with this.' Kyle wasn't upset, far from it. And he wasn't being rude to anyone. He also knew his team trained hard and wanted to let them earn some pride from an official match.
It was just… he wanted to release his aura skin, to breathe in the feeling of life once more. He felt like he was walking through thin air at the top of a mountain at the moment. It was fine for a while, but it was uncomfortable. 'Not to mention, I can kind of see the appeal of this type of battling but it feels like I'm playing chess.'
He was conflicted, as the more he battled, the more he felt as if the entire system came off like a game. When he traveled through Eterna forest and fought against those wild and hungry Pokemon, there was no indication of it being a game. It was rough, gritty, and hazardous, but it was… real? Real is the way he would put it.
'I take no joy in death but somehow I liked that mood more than this. I feel silly.' Kevin's style of battling only emphasized that. He was sixteen but apparently his dramatic style was normal.
Some of the trainers he fought on the road likewise had their own habits, and it made the whole game feeling really set in.
It was fun for people. It was a challenge. It was a SPORT. Kyle didn't like the feeling of playing a sport, he wanted to live, to connect with life as nature made it. A fight didn't have to be to the death, but when you were not risking something and he wasn't connected to the world around him, it felt wrong. Like he was forcing himself into a mold.
He frowned to himself as he thought, wondering how to work with such things, but Gardenia's voice snapped him back into the moment. "Alright! Are you ready to do this Kyle?" She stepped into her indicated space with a smile and Kyle nodded back.
The judge stepped into his area and waved both flags. "The gym leader match against the challenger, Kyle Silvers, will now begin. The match is a tier 3, two and two matchup. The Gym leader is unable to swap out Pokemon, the challenger may switch once. Are both challengers ready?!"
Kyle and Gardenia nodded. "The gym leader releases first!" Gardenia tossed out a ball. "Go, Turtwig!" The red light formed into the classic starter Pokemon of the Sinnoh league. "Tur!" It called out cheerfully and looked around.
AN: This is where I stalled. I'll summarize what was supposed to happen. Don't worry, I'll get back to this story at some point.
0: Kyle sends out Aurora.
0: Aurora defeats Turtwig.
0: Kyle swaps for Loki or Typhon on the second fight.
0: He gets the gym badge.
0: He leaves the gym and chooses to sleep in the forest instead of the city.
0: He begins to question what he really wants to do in life.
And chapter end.
Sorry about that but those bullet points would only take another 2-4K words, not much but I can't find the motivation to do it at the moment.

QUESTION.
What does everyone think of this story? Do you like my slow pace? Want me to speed things up? Want me to focus more on the first worlds? Want me to get to the end of the first world and have the friends meet up for the second world faster? Want them to be old enough for more romance?
I do have an entire outline for how the Harry Potter and Pokemon worlds will go for Jake and Kyle, I have some fun my style of original content planned for each. With Tonks and Cynthia along for the ride of course.
To be fair I never even thought of what world I should use next, I just enjoyed the ride of the first worlds so far.
Let me hear your thoughts on this fic if you want more. Oh, and review the chap of course lol. I had fun with the black family stuff.
