Blood Red Petals

He followed the smell of what he first thought were Lunar Flowers, though soon enough he started associating something else with the smell. It felt more like he was running straight to Paradise, he didn't know anymore, if he was even chasing a scent, or just a feeling.

I don't care, all I know is that I gotta go that way.

The wolf let instinct guide him. It drove him to go faster. It made him forget the pain from the bullet that was still stuck between his ribs. All he wanted to do now was reaching the place he was headed towards, because there, Paradise, a better world, a world with this one special wolf that he always wanted to have by his side, would await him.

I should have told her! What a wolf am I? I can take on 10 soldiers on my own, but can't tell a girl about my love for her! Stupid me.

The scent got stronger. He was close now, close to Paradise. Then, all of a sudden he staggered and fell. He rolled down a ledge. Vaguely he felt that he stopped moving before passing out…

This can't be happening. I'm not there yet. I need to keep going.

He woke up and the first thing he noticed was the smell. This was it! He knew it. He wanted to see…see Paradise, see the white, beautiful Lunar Flowers all over the place… see Her. Opening his eyes hurt, breathing hurt.

It's not supposed to be like that in Paradise. Paradise does not know pain.

His vision was blurry, but he could make out enough to be disappointed…at first. What he saw was the woods, and flowers covering the ground. Not Lunar Flowers, that much he could be sure of since the colour he saw wasn't white… but red. He kept going forward, wondering why he was there. And then he saw it. He saw Paradise just a bit further ahead. A warm feeling was filling his whole body… He saw her.

"So I ran all the way thinking I was going to Paradise. And all I find is you! U know, u really mess up everything", he thought, tears filling his eyes, fondness filling his heart.

He dragged his body up to hers. He checked if she was still alive, though deep inside he knew she wasn't. He didn't feel sad, no, wolfs didn't fear death. It was part of this world. Every being in this world was allowed a life and paid with its own death for this gift. The wolfs understood that and used this gift to live their lives in a way that made them happy. He had travelled with her, that had made him happy. He was now here, with her and felt that he soon would be paying for the life that was granted to him as well and he was happy about that, because in the end, he would be with her. It didn't matter to him anymore that he didn't get to The Paradise with her, because he now knew, that he had found his Paradise when first meeting that clumsy, good-for-nothing wolf on his travels. He had to smile about this thought. This was a lie, she always made him go on, always tried to cheer him up. Without her, he wouldn't have ever come so far. Would have never found his own Paradise.

All these thoughts were filling him with happiness. He couldn't hold back on howling:

"Hahahahaha Yup! This must be Paradise. I'll meet you there. And just don't be too much of a pain, ok?", he smiled… then his legs couldn't hold him any longer.

He crawled close to her body, rested his paws on her shoulder and put his head onto her neck. This felt really comfortable, he was sleepy now, wanted to rest forever on this soft fur.

"I'm sorry I never said it before.
I love you…"

He closed his eyes, a tear running through his fur. It found it's way, fell onto her back and eventually touched a blood red petal.

He died.

Under the two wolves, the flowers were moaning for this couple. For these flowers were love's essence.

Under the two wolves, a bed of roses began to bloom in all it's beauty, nurtured by a tear, shone upon by a full moon's silver light.

There was a whisper in the wind

"I love you…".
