The Day You Came And Went

The mournful young woman walked up the slight hill and carefully around the respected tombstones while looking for her son's. She sucked in a breath when she came upon it and kneeled down so she was eye level with the inscription.

A Beloved Son

She took her time as she placed the nine single white roses evenly over the tomb. It had been nine years…nine years ago today since she had experienced the happiest and saddest day of her life. She had put up a brave face after he had died. Telling people it was for the best, that she hadn't been ready to be a mother. Afterall, she was only nineteen.

In reality though, she had been ready. She had bought the books, the itty-bitty blue booties, the cute little onesies with the sayings printed on them and the receiving blanket. Not to say she that she hadn't been scared, of the fact that she would become another statistic as a teenage mother. Or that she had no idea how to change a diaper. But she had learned to deal with and accept the fact that she was going to be somebody else's mother.

She sighed as a lone tear swam down her cheek. She and Craig had planned to get married that coming Valentine's Day. But the pain and space that was shoved between the two after their son's death had a different idea. They postponed the wedding twice before eventually calling it off in June.

She constantly blamed herself, maybe if she would have eaten healthier or taken the yoga class for pregnant women things would have been different. She was constantly in the mindset of 'what if' and 'it's my fault'.

But the final end to their relationship was when Downtown Sasquatch got their long awaited record deal and went on tour. She had seen him in magazines, on the television and she had bought all five of their platinum selling albums. She had even seen him in person…at one of his sold out concerts. That was nearly three years ago, though. She knew he came to visit his soon, though. She only laid out white roses; he preferred to remember his son with the yellow roses.

Wiping her tear stained cheeks she stood and turned around just as he came up the hill. Both stopped dead in their tracks and stared silently at each other. Finally she broke eye contact and started to move around him, "I gotta go."

He reached out, touching her arm and moving his hand down to hers, "wait."

She shook her head, "I have a flight to catch." She pulled her hand from his grasp and continued to walk away."

"Paige!" he cried after her, but she was already gone.

So that's it. I might write a wip prequel.
