Eventually, they start to figure it out. After a couple years on the Job, they realize it isn't all good guys and bad guys. It isn't NYPD Blue anymore. It isn't cops and robbers.
They start to figure out that there are things so horrible out there... things that at first make them lose their lunches and have nightmares for weeks. And they realize they've always been out there. And the worst part of it is, towards the middle, they start to get used to it. The nightmares are still there, but they're not every night. The nightmares are there, but not only at night.
