He'd given her his class ring as an engagement ring. And that had only been because when he'd proposed to her, he'd been young and stupid…and completely broke. But she'd taken it, allowed him to slide it onto her left ring finger. And then when he'd tried to apologize for it, she'd told him to be quiet, that the ring didn't really matter to her.

But the guilty feeling had never really gone away, even now, years later. He'd never said anything to her about it, expecting the same reaction he'd gotten the first time. And now…now his fingers tighten around a small box in his pocket…a box that holds the one thing he's always wanted to give her.

The front door opens quietly, thankfully not creaking like it sometimes does. Everything is quiet when he walks in, which he decides to attribute to the fact that it's a Friday, and it's still quite early. Music comes drifting out of the kitchen and with it, an all-too-familiar voice singing along softly. He wonders for a minute whether or not she thinks he forgot that today is their anniversary, but soon decides to ignore the thought and takes of his shoes, leaving his socks on so that she won't be able to hear him coming towards her.

And sure enough, she doesn't hear him. In fact, she doesn't even notice him until he slides his arms around her waist and presses a kiss to the back of her neck. Only then does she turn to look at him, a startled look on her face. He offers up a faint smile at her confusion before letting her go and going down on one knee. She continues to watch, tears filling her eyes as she shakes her head in disbelief upon seeing what he's holding.

The box in his hands is open now…and inside it is the diamond ring he's waited for nearly twenty-one years to give her.

A/N: Yeah. So this is what comes from my E/K shipper mind when I get bored...and when I'm practically falling asleep...so, yeah. SVU's not mine...and I'm still contemplating on whether or not I like the person that's coming in for a few weeks, so I'll go.
