The call comes just as the four of them are about to leave. In fact, they're halfway out of the squad room when the phone starts ringing. They all turn back, but none of them move forward to answer it…at least, not at first.
After the second ring, he goes back into the squad room and picks it up, motioning for the others to go ahead and leave. Two of them do. Only she remains behind, and stands in the squad room doorway, knowing that when he hangs up, they'll leave for yet another scene.
Sure enough, that's exactly what happens. No words are exchanged between them as they walk out of the squad room. The precinct halls have pretty much been deserted already; everything is quiet, but when they walk outside, they are greeted by the sounds of the city.
The scene isn't that far from the precinct, so they walk. Within a few minutes, they can see the flashing red and blue lights of a squad car and the bright yellow crime scene tape. They stop for a minute a few feet away, still unnoticed, by those that are already present. And when they do, she touches his arm and motions upwards.
When he looks up, he can see that the sky is starting to become tinted with different shades of pink and orange and blue. The sun is setting once more over New York City, but as always, their job is far from being over.
A/N: So yeah, I get bored way too often, as you've probably figured out. And with no SVU till the 7th, that will give me plenty of time to write some more...yay! Oh, and SVU's not mine.
