To Be
Prologue: Naruto and Gaara

Naruto is always playing pranks. He is always trying to be noticed by someone, even if it is through dishonorable and scandalous antics.
Naruto is a very troublesome guy.
Naruto is… alone. He has always been alone. Without a family he pays no heed to discipline, because when the teachers are done scolding him they send him home without parents to punish him. He goes back to an empty house to eat supper, which is never gratifying because he has no one to share it with.
If it were up to Naruto he would not have to be alone anymore. He wouldn't have to play pranks to get noticed, but instead try his hardest in everything to earn his kin's respect and praise. If it were up to Naruto he would come back to a house filled with love, and eat meals over laughter instead of silence.
Except it isn't up to Naruto.

Gaara is always quiet. He is never running along the streets of Sand laughing or playing games with the other children. Maybe this is because Gaara is feared. He is forever branded with a name meaning 'a demon who loves only himself'.
No one attempts to be pleasant towards Gaara even though he has done nothing but strive to be kind. People freeze when they hear the syllables he is labeled with, and walk in the opposite direction. It is simply because he is a person born to kill.
An experiment gone wrong… he is the Hidden Village of the Sand's mistake, and they all know this… but Gaara does not. He continues to live and does not know why. He continues searching for a reason to exist, but Gaara always ends up empty handed and crying, curled up atop the castle roof wondering why.
Gaara doesn't know what pain is, but he feels it.

I really do dread posting up fanfiction that hasn't been entirely finished, but I've recently come out of a two year writer's block and I want to see what I can improve on. Word choice, sentence fluency, punctuation, and things like that. Thanks in advance for the constructive criticism/praise/flame/backspace button action, but most importantly thanks for reading.
