Chapter Three:
Hinata arrived first, along with Tenten and Sakura together a few minutes afterwards. They greeted Ino with huge smiles, and they all placed their stuff in Ino's room. Ino had decided that she would let them decide what to do first, because after all they were the guests.
So now they were all sitting in the living room, just looking at each other.
"So…um what do you guys want to do?" Hinata asked quietly.
"Um…I don't really care, as long as we do something," Tenten said.
"How about we…um I don't know do our nails and hair first?" Sakura said.
"Hair and nails?" Tenten said with a shocked expression on her face. She had come to a girl's night yes, but hair and nails?
"Yes, hair and nails. One night won't kill you Tenten, actually I think it would be quite the opposite," Ino said with a mischievous smile on he face. She started to advance towards Tenten, and motioned for the other two girls to do the same.
"Wait…what are you guys doing….wait stop…wait….NOOO…don't do that," shouts could be heard from outside of the house.
Twenty minutes later, and after much wrestling and begging, all four girls had their nails and toenails painted. Ino's were a striking blue to match her eyes, Tenten's were a dark olive green, Sakura's were a darker pink to contrast her bubblegum hair, and Hinata's were purple. The clock read 7:00, and they decided to play truth or dare.
"So, I guess I will start. Ino, truth or dare?" Sakura said.
"Truth," Ino said without even thinking.
"Who do you have a crush on?" Sakura said grinning widely.
'Should I tell them? I don't know. They are my friend's right? Maybe they can make me feel better,' Ino thought looking around to each of their faces. Sakura's was excited and eager, Hinata was patient, and Tenten's held curiosity and an under layer of sadness. Actually, as she looked harder she saw they all had some form of sadness in their gazes.
"Shikamaru," Ino said. "Now you have to tell me who you like,"
"Why?" Tenten asked. "That isn't in the rules anywhere,"
"Because I want to know, and I told you," Ino said pouting slightly.
"She has a point," Hinata said quietly, playing with her fingers. Sakura reached over and stopped her, making her look up at Sakura who just smiled.
"Fine…let's get this over with. Sakura…who do you like?" Tenten asked glaring at her newly painted nails.
"Why do I have to say first?" Sakura whined.
"I bet its Sasuke," Ino said wickedly.
"Um…maybe," Sakura said, blushing and smiling.
"Hah! It is him!" Ino said pointing at her.
"Fine, fine, you caught me," Sakura said. "Hinata, you still like Naruto right?"
"Y-yes," Hinata said looking down at the ground but not playing with her fingers any more.
"Should have guessed," Tenten muttered enough for the other girls to hear.
"What about you Tenten?" Hinata said looking up at Tenten.
"I don't know why but…Neji," Tenten said.
"I know what you mean, I don't know why I have any feelings for Shikamaru either," Ino said rather sadly.
"It's puzzling," Sakura said.
"You got that right," Hinata said.
"Shikamaru is lazy, and he only looks at the clouds. Not to mention he thinks I am a bossy troublesome women," Ino said, sadness suddenly overcoming her. Her eyes became very distant as she recalled what she had been feeling.
"I know what you mean. Sasuke thinks I am annoying, and weak. He always has to save me in missions, and I am always getting in his way," Sakura said, tears threatening to overcome her as memories spilled into her mind.
"Naruto…Naruto pushed me down the other day. He didn't even give me two looks before walking away. I have given him every possible hint to show him I like him, and yet he doesn't seem to know what I feel," Hinata said, her emotions evident in her voice.
"Boys, men, are…I don't know. Neji doesn't even know I exist, or at least that is what I think. He looks right through me. I am not strong enough for him, or something. I don't know what it is…but I am invisible in his eyes," Tenten said flatly, starring at something that wasn't there.
Silence filled the room as they all felt a deep emptiness open up in there chests, like their hearts had been pulled out. Tears were already flowing out of Sakura and Hinata's eyes, as Ino and Tenten fought against their own.
"Why…why don't they notice us?" Sakura asked softly, her logical brain not being able to come up with any answers.
"I…I…I don't know," Ino said shakily, going over to Sakura and wrapping her arms around her. Hinata had come to the other side and Tenten on her side, so they all were hugging each other.
"I want…them to notice us," Hinata said, looking at her three friends. They each had the same deep sadness residing in their eyes. She saw wrinkles that hadn't been there the last time they met, and she knew she didn't look any better.
"I do too. But…what can we do?" Tenten said weakly.
"Who knows? But the first thing I know we have to do is stop all of this crying," Ino said putting a huge smile on her tear streaked face, and wiping of the ones that were still flowing down her cheeks.
"You are right," Sakura said, smiling back at her friend and began wiping her own tears off.
Soon all of the girls were tear free, still sitting closely together for the warmth and support they gave each other.
"Do you guys want hot cocoa?" Ino asked.
"Yes please," all of the girls replied and followed her to the kitchen to help. The hot cocoa was ready in minutes and they settled themselves upstairs in Ino's room. Tenten and Sakura sat on the floor, while Ino and Hinata sat on the bed.
"What are we going to do?" Hinata asked.
"We are going to get them to notice us, just like you said," Tenten said calmly taking a sip of her cocoa, the other girls saw the determination set in her eyes and it gave them strength as well.
"How are we going to do that?" Ino asked. The girls fell silent as each thought about the problem at hand.
"The boys don't see us right?" Sakura asked and upon seeing their nods went on, "So we have to make them see us. For example, Sasuke says I am weak and don't practice enough, so therefore if I practice more and get stronger maybe he will be able to see me,"
"That is a good idea," Tenten said pondering on this thought. She looked at the girls, and thought about their different personalities.
"I think that we should do more training together, all of us. We do need it," said Hinata, "And maybe Shizune, Tsunade, Kurenai, or Anko can help us out,"
"That is a good plan," Ino said, "We can ask them… maybe tomorrow,"
"Guys…I think I may have something that will help us," Tenten said in a serious tone that made them stop and look at her. "If you look at us, we are opposites. We could use this,"
"What?" Hinata and Ino said.
"I mean, Sakura and I are opposites. No offense to you or anything Sakura but you care about your looks a lot and I really don't. Ino, Hinata, you two are also different. Ino you are loud and kind of bossy, no offense. Hinata, you are quiet and stutter quite often. Maybe…maybe our opposites can help us be more like them," Tenten said.
"I get it now. Act the opposites of how we normally do," Sakura said thinking about it.
"Oh…and then maybe it will catch their attention," Ino said slowly, the thought processing in their minds.
"Guys, don't we want them to like us for who we are? I mean, we are changing everything about us just so that they will notice us. What if they don't like the new us as much as they did the old us?" Hinata asked.
"Another good point coming from Hinata," Ino said sarcastically. Talking about all of this was slowly releasing the pent up emotions that had been gathering in her.
"Yeah and what if they think something is suspicious?" Tenten asked.
"So what do you think we should do?" Hinata asked.
"Why don't we talk to Tsunade about it? I bet she would have some great ideas," Sakura said.
"We could…but let's stick with the motive that we want to get stronger. I don't want her to know the whole truth about why we want to do all of this, she might say something to the guys," Tenten said.
"Ok it's settled then; tomorrow we go and see Tsunade about our new problems," Ino said.
The next day in Tsunade's office…
"So you are saying that all four of you want to become stronger?" Tsunade asked looking at the four girls that stood in front of her. Determination was in their eyes, and their faces looked like they wouldn't be leaving until she helped them. She had an idea about what all of this was about…but she didn't want to tell that to the girls. Besides if they were willing to train more than it would probably be good for all of them.
"Yes," Sakura said strongly, and the other three girls nodded their heads.
"And you want my help to figure out what to do?"
Again heads were nodded.
"Ok, well there are a few things you could do. First, you could continue training with your usual teams. Second, I could put you on a different team to train with a new sensei," these answers didn't seem to be what the girls were looking for. "Or…I guess I could send you away for a while, on a training mission of sorts. A few months…maybe a year or two. What do you think?" Tsunade asked.
"You mean like what Naruto did?" Sakura asked. Hinata cringed when she said her name which didn't do unnoticed by Tsunade. Sakura gave her an apologetic look.
"Yes, except I would probably send you off with a female jonin," Tsunade said.
"I would like that Tsunade," Tenten said bowing to her.
"Me as well," Ino said also bowing.
"I would like to go," Hinata said bowing.
"As would I," Sakura said, bowing last.
"I guess it's settled then. You guys will leave tomorrow in the morning. Pack and be at the gates by 5:00 am," Tsunade said slightly frowning. The girls nodded and turned to leave, "Wait, girls, are you sure you want to do this?"
Grim faces settled on all four of the girls as they looked at each other, and then back at her. She saw their eyes; she knew what they were going to say.
"I see girls. I will see you tomorrow morning," Tsunade said. When she saw the girls she chuckled slightly, "No girls I am not going. I have to come and see off four of my best kunoichi don't I?"
The girls nodded and walked out of the office.
"I hope I did the right thing," Tsunade muttered to herself, "Now who should I send?"
"Do you think we are doing the right thing?" Hinata asked, suddenly feeling very unsure of what they were doing.
"I don't know for sure, but it will be nice to get away from here for awhile," Tenten said motioning up to the grey clouds above them.
"Probably will," Ino said and yawned, "Hey, do you guys have to go tell you parents you are leaving?"
"Yes, I do," Hinata said.
"Nope, no parents," Tenten said as if it didn't affect her at all.
"Yes, I do," Sakura said, not looking forward to telling her mom, "Why what are you thinking?"
"Well, I was thinking that we could all spend our last night in Kohona at my house," Ino said.
"That sounds good to me, I will go pack and meet you at your house," Tenten said, and began walking forward again.
"I will too," Hinata said and started walking opposite of Tenten.
"See you then," Sakura said and walked off in the direction to her house, in a different direction then both Tenten's, Hinata's, and Ino's house.
Awhile later all four of the girls were once again gathered at Ino's house. They were going over what they had packed, and what they would need to take. Tenten insisted on taking four bags of weapons/scrolls/medical supplies with her, and only one of clothes. Sakura and Ino had three of clothes each, and only one of weapons/scrolls/medical supplies. Hinata had one of each.
"Do you think we should tell the guys we are leaving?" Hinata asked, shocking the girls with her out of the blue question.
"Nah, I mean Tsunade will tell them right. Besides its not like they will care," Tenten said shrugging it off.
"Good point, but what about Lee, Shino, Kiba, and Chouji?" Sakura asked.
"We could…but why? I mean they would probably try to stop us, and they would tell the other guys and they would try to stop us. I mean I don't know about you guys…but Neji likes to use me as his personally punching bag. I don't think he would give that up," Tenten said sadly, thinking about Neji's treatment of her.
"You are probably right, I mean like you said before Tsunade will tell them all any way," Hinata said and continued to pack her things. All four girl's eyes met for a second, and they had a quick flash of regret which was quickly washed away with the pain the boys had caused them.
"Guys we should be getting to bed. We have to get up early tomorrow, and we didn't get very much sleep last night either," Sakura said yawning and stretching her arms above her head.
"Let's go then," Ino said leading the way to her bedroom from the living room which they had been in. All of their stuff was there from last night, and they fell asleep with thoughts of the training mission that was going to start the next day.
